- 16 ports of madness! This 72 year old Sterling is located at 4th and Water Streets in Gettysburg and may be the only active siren left in the town. There's also an inactive Model 5 on the South end of town and an STH-10 on East Legion Alley in the center of town that might be inactive; I plan to go there next month to confirm my suspicions. Adams County tests on the first Saturday of every month, alternating between alert and attack each month. That's all for now: like, comment, share and subscribe for more! Thanks for watching! :)
Wow out of all their sirens, this beat up, rusty sterling is the only one that still works, wow! Nice video!
God dang! How long have they had that historic siren? That looks VERY OLD!
They have had it since 1948.
@@demo2497 this one is older than that
@@Sipex6484 GFD 2008 history indicates a 3hp Sterling siren was installed in the cupola of the old HQ on Middle St., 4/12/1923.
On 1/26/1967, it is mentioned that 2 new sirens have been installed, and the old HQ siren will be installed on 4th Street (this one).
In 4/1971, the GFD moved to a refurbished HQ building on York St., and the Middle St. station was razed.
@@warrenjenkins1902 This one isn't the 1923 one, I recall seeing newspaper articles stating this was installed sometime in the 30s
Yay! I’ve been wanting someone to record this! This was the one siren I didn’t stop at when I was out there.
You should have, lol. Thanks for watching!
Say what you want but it sounds like a 7 port siren
I measured this siren's peak pitch as being around 790Hz. To reach that frequency, this siren has to be spinning around 2900RPM
A 7 port siren is 402Hz at 3450RPM (standard siren speed), and 338Hz at 2900RPM.
This siren peaks closest to a 14 port siren at 3450RPM
16 port sterlings are the best
Oh my god I didn’t know they tested it
Yep, they do!
Nice video! Sounds great for its age!
I agree, thank you!
It still works! Functionality test passed.
Oh my god that windup sounds epic
Nice video!!!!, looks like it needs some new metal and some chopper covers 😁
It could probably use some retouching appearance wise, but it sounds fine!
I've been wondering which one of these damn things was the one that worked.
Well, now I know.
It's strange though, I just heard a siren at noon maybe 30 minutes ago. Thing is, it's april first on a wednesday.
I live out on Highland about a mile from the battlefield so I can still hear it, but I was in my house and not really listening so I don't remember which tone it was doing. It was definitely the siren though.
that's...
very old, to say the least.
74 years old, my guy.
Man those bearings are well worn in!
Nice Video!
Thank you!
@@lukemicsky3086 Welcome!
Oh my god yes
Yes indeed
Do they use this siren for the fire station?
I think so, yes.
@@lukemicsky3086 It’s used as a fire siren but I think this siren has stopped working. I saw videos of this siren later than this video and it failed multiple times. I highly doubt that Adams County is going to fix this siren.
@@SteelCitySirensandTrains Update. This siren only tests on Alert months same with Littlestown. This siren does not sound for fire calls.
@@marylandsirensfirebuff9664 So it’s still active? Any idea what’s it’s used for?
