2:28 so agreeable
Perfect timing. I'm heading to St. George tomorrow and I was hoping to find a good spot to bird. Thanks.
Amazing! Hope you find some great stuff!
Quiz: looks a lot like a species I filmed in Europe last week 😊
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I know there are hundreds in La Puente, west covina, orange county and LA too, but for the first time I saw 2 flying over my head here in the inland empire (woodcrest/orange crest). I was shock to have seen and heard the noise as they flew above me. I guess the population is really growing and they are now here in the inland empire too. 🦜🦜
really wish i have seen one i live in the range but with habitat loss they are really rare
Sending you Greater Sage-Grouse luck!!
Owls are alwayz cool, gr8 stuff young man😎 Mystery bird, Meadowlark
Thanks for watching! Good guess buy not quite! Think much more gray!
I came here from the dodo goshawk. I loved birds too.
Welcome to the channel!
Was that a Bluejay at the end? It didn’t seem blue because of the shade
NVM a mockingbird lol I saw the comments
Haha spoilers in the comments!
2 days ago I went bird ringing for the first time. Such a cool to hold the birds and see them upclose. I got to hold Great tits, blue tits, Eurasian robin and blackap!
Ohhhhh! Bird ringing means something else in the US so I was confused haha. We call it bird banding here. I bet that was an awesome experience!!
I originally thought maybe a jay, but I already read the comments!
Spoilers in the comments haha
I was in Utah this weekend. I went to Antelope Island like you suggested. I didn’t have a lot of time but I got a few birds. Avocet or black necked stilt on the causeway (I get those two confused), northern shoveler, northern harrier, and a few horned larks that did not want to be photographed.
Glad you got to go visit Antelope Island! Such an amazing place! You probably saw both American Avocets and Black-necked Stilts! You just missed out on the Burrowing Owls by a few weeks!
Ngl, my first thought when I saw the title and thumbnail, I thought it was you who got the picture, haha! Fascinating stuff though!
Oh I wish haha! That would have been incredible!
Do I get a consultation mystery prize 🎁 for good try … 😅😁
Are you collaborating with Badgerland Birding?
The ball is in their court.
😂@@brighteyedbirding
Being a newer birder (at age 58), I seem to get lifers each time out! :)
That’s such an awesome feeling!! It slows down a bit but then it’s much more exciting to see new birds!
Belted Kingfishers are the mob enforcers of the bird world.
Hi, again. Is it possible that the mystery bird’ is some kind of Starlings……..🧐🤔…..?
Good guess! But not quite!
Good morning 🌅 to you from Hong Kong 🇭🇰 SAR. Did you know that recent research suggest that the Belted Kingfisher should be divided into three subfamilies.
That’s super interesting! I had no idea!
Northern Mockingbird
🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇
That was a northern mockingbird in the bushes. There are lots of those here in Alabama.
🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇
Great stuff as usual. Thanks for sharing
Thanks so much for watching!
That Kingfisher at the beginning looked particularly savage! Always a privilege to see an owl. Cool birds as always!
They are super amazing birds! Was really happy to run into them both!
Looks like a Mockingbird to me?
🥇🥇🥇🥇👏🏻
I’ll have to check it out when I’m out there next!
It’s an awesome place!!
The Kingfisher was amazing. Been lucky enough to see one here in the UK👍
They are really amazing birds 🤩
This looks like a younger one because I see some brown on it
Yep it's definitely not a full adult yet! Good catch!
My theory is that one day those 2 remote pockets of Gunnison sage-grouse in Utah will get split from Colorado's main population and it will be Utah's first true endemic and therefore most iconic!
That would be quite interesting! Would have HUGE implications for conservation as well if that happens.
We have White Pelicans in Minnesota, and they are abundant and wonderful here.
They are such beautiful birds! They have really expanded their range inland the last 50 years or so, so it's amazing to see them in so many places!
Wow that American Avocet is stunning! It's one of my dreams to see a Pied Avocet here in Sweden :D Someday...
Thank you!! They are really beautiful birds! Sending you Pied Avocet luck! Hope you get to see it!
Good afternoon, to you from Hong Kong 🇭🇰 SAR. Today, for the first time in my life after so many decades living in HK, I saw and was able to take photos 📸as well as videos 📹of a BLACK-CAPPED KINGFISHER ! WOW ! A ‘LIFER’ for me ! 🤗
Oh wow that's incredible! Congrats on your new lifer and the photos too!
You have to include the California Gull. “Fun fact: In 1848, a plague of katydids was devouring the crops of Mormon settlers in Utah. California Gulls came to the rescue that spring, feeding on the katydids and saving the crops from complete destruction. In recognition, the California Gull was named the State Bird of Utah.” You can dump that Woodhouse’s Scrub Jay to make room. 😊
Haha I have a whole video on that story. The problem with it, is much reason to think that they were probably Ring-billed Gulls instead of California Gulls.
Good morning to you from Hong Kong 🇭🇰 SAR. Hong Kong 🇭🇰 has quite a number of Cinerious Tit birds, but some websites state that these birds could be Japanese Tits instead, while others state that these Tit birds could be the Great Tits. 🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️
Good morning Mark!
Flammulated owl was picked up on my Merlin actually in Palomar, near San Diego. Do you think this is false?
There does seem to be a small population of Flammulated Owls in SoCal. However, it REALLY depends on the habitat. Also, I would be weary of owls on Merlin. Owls used to pop up on my Merlin from a squeaky stroller for example.
@@brighteyedbirding yeah that was back when i RELY on merlin. the habitat was in decent elevation around 5000 ft in oaky habitat with a pond closeby
In January 2003 I was working for American Airlines in Baggage Service at San Diego International Airport. It was pouring rain that day. As the crew unloaded the first couple of flights, the guys came in and said there was an owl up in the rafters. When things slowed down I went in back to check it out and sure enough there was a Flammulated Owl sitting on a beam in order to avoid the rain.
Love the list and great video Jordan!! I would argue that either the Black Rosy Finch or the Gray-crowned Rosy Finch deserves a spot on the list. If forced to choose between the two I would lean towards the slightly rarer Black Rosy Finch. I know Tracy Aviary and other organizations partner to study them right here in Utah since we have a good population and they are one of the least studied birds in North America. As you are well aware, the Wasatch mountains, especially Little Cottonwood Canyon, are a reliable place to find them as they keep stocked feeders up at those high elevations.
Thanks Hawkin for watching! Glad you enjoyed it! That's a really good option! I didn't even think about those birds, but they really are a big draw for people visiting the state! Great choice! Now the real question: who do they replace??
Those were five good choices for the list.
Thank you!! And thanks for watching!
just went a couple of days ago. highlights: Belted Kingfisher, Blue-Winged Teal, Loggerhead Shrike.
That's amazing! Glad it went went really well!
I didn’t see any red footed falcons yesterday in the Fochtloërveen however I did see my lifer water rail! Very elusive bird. It was wonderful I got up early and the sun was beautiful aswell
Congrats on your lifer!! That’s awesome!!
Owls are not so plentiful as I have never seen one anywhere near my area in the semi-rural areas of the New Territories of Hong Kong 🇭🇰 SAR. If you GOOGLE search for owls 🦉 in Hong Kong 🇭🇰 SAR, it will show you seven species of owls 🦉. I am sure that there will be more 🦉 owls in countries like Singapore 🇸🇬, Malaysia 🇲🇾, the Philippines 🇵🇭, and Indonesia 🇮🇩.
I live 10 miles west of Pasadena and the parrots are around every day. In the evening when they fly overhead you can't hear yourself think.
I’m sure it’s absolutely hectic when they are around!!
Those casual birding adventures are still my favorite. Always nice to be out in nature
It’s such a mental refresh for sure!
Sometimes birding is just about getting the dopamine😂. Its great for mental health! Not so good for your sandals. Did you end up throwing your sandals away? Didnt you step in something on one of your trips?
It’s so true! Haha I still have my sandals, but I did have to hose them down pretty good 😂
I've only seen a brown thrasher, but the sage thrasher seems interesting.
It’s a really interesting bird! Subtle beauty all its own!
Noice vid! I love the message. Birding for me just gets me in a better mindspace.
Thanks so much! Yes it’s absolutely amazing for the mind!
Good morning to you from Hong Kong 🇭🇰 SAR. What is your favourite group of birds : salt-water shore birds, fresh water waders, raptors, passerine birds, marsh birds, nectar-feeding birds, brood-parasitic birds, ……..etc…..
That’s a good question.. my favorite group of birds would have to be owls I think! As a group they are just so exciting to see!
I just saw my first American Coot here in Minnesota on Friday. Some other birders told me there was one around the corner, and there it was!
That’s awesome! Congrats on your first coot! Hope you see many more!
@@brighteyedbirdingThanks!
I see you finally invested in shoes! :)
BAHAHA yeah it's true! Finally got the shoes on in this one!
Hey quick question: How do you film these birds without having the camera shake too much? The video quality on you videos are amazing!
That's nice of you to say! I appreciate that! I free hold it. If you watch my old videos (and sometimes my current videos) it's pretty shaky. But I just practiced a ton and now I can hold it pretty steady in the right conditions.
Hey man. Yeah, loved the message here. Sometimes you just gotta get out there and bird away...take a step back, stop and smell the flowers. Good stuff as always. 👍
Thanks so much! Appreciate you watching!
