Okay you might be jealous because I know this is one of your most wanted to see birds but, I SAW MY LIFER BLACK WINGED KITE YESTERDAY!!!! I saw it had been reported on a site so I put aside my homework and went out at 6am and I saw it 5 minutes after arriving and I got amazing photos!
we have them in Los angeles too. when you hike at night in the hilly parts. you hear the screeches overhead . we would always see coyote packs too . Once we saw a massive owl perching (kind of similar to one you posted). so beautiful and just watching us. but nothing scary. The screeches stopped following us once we left the Forest area in Pasadena area and by Elysian hills. All of us are Mexican-american, 1st gen😂
That's not a myth, I saw one but they called it a bruja too, I think. You just made me have a flash back!!! O_o. I had ran away with a Hispanic family to work the fields with them for the summer. I don't remember the year exactly but it was a bad drought. So bad they gave out fans and we could not work that week. It was in Plain View Texas. We had a big fight and I kept hearing something on the roof of the trailer we were in. It would land hard, take a few steps then stop. Almost if something was flying off!!! Anyway, I was spooked and shut the window by the babies crib because that was the direction it was going to. They got mad and told me I had to leave, it was 3 in the morning mind you and I was scared but they told me to go anyway. So I packed my things and left crying. I sat under the only street light and cried like a baby. Off in the distance I heard women laughing at me but the laughter was coming from above. How??? As I glanced up, they were dressed in all black with pale white faces sitting up on the electric poles and they were holding onto them with their feet that were like talons, perched like birds. I was sooo scared I dropped my bags and ran to the trailer and starting screaming banging on the door to be let in but they would not open the door. Then I heard something land on top of the trailer and walk toward the top right above the trailer door. all I saw were talons on the edge then it peered down at me, all I saw were two huge red eyes and very sharp teeth as it made a loud high pitched screech like a bird. I think I blacked out from fear. I just remember running and screaming as they cackled with laughter. I didn't stop until I reached the only light there was in the distance, the light from the only gas station in town. The police were called because I could not stop screaming. After I calmed down, I told them what happened. And they all believed me. Long story short they got me back home but I will never forget that night. No one in my family believed me. The only ones who did were my Hispanic friends, smh. It's been awhile but every time I hear the words La Lechuza, the hair on the back of my neck stands up!!!
@@brighteyedbirding No no no, It's not your fault, you were telling us a scary story. In my case. it happens to be very real. It's good to know that I am not alone and that although the experience was terrifying there are other people that know about them too. Thank YOU for sharing!!! : ) The tales fit right up there with the chupacabra O_O
Those tales are very much alive along the border in south Texas
Every time we saw an owl (which wasn't too often tbh) immediately everyones' mind went to "bruja"
Pretty cool.
Thank you for sharing this amazing folklore story with us all! Perfect halloween video!
Thank you for watching! Happy Halloween!

Black-winged Kites are very common here in South-africa.They often perch on wires
