We’ve never tried the bird of the day challenge but we went out a few days ago and picked up a Belted Kingfisher for the first time. A little while later we looked at Merlin and discovered that the Belted Kingfisher was the bird of the day. Fun!
For Q&A: there has been a Mandarin duck at Spring Lake this year and this week there was a Mandarin reported up in Logan. How do we get these Mandarins? Are they escapees from the aviary? Where can we read some of your papers you have written for school? If you could go anywhere in the world to go birding, where would you go? Ps. I hope Santa brings you a scope😊
Good Morning to you from Hong Kong 🇭🇰 SAR. Are you able to see / have you ever seen the adult Bonaparte’s Gull in its breeding stage with its head all in black, while as you mentioned and showed that the non-breeding adult of the Bonaparte’s Gull only has a speck / dot of black behind the eye, while the Juvenile is rather grey in colour plumage, yet still sports a black spot behind the eye with somewhat more grey on the forehead…….? 🤔🤔🤔
I have seen the adult Bonaparte's Gull in breeding plumage. It's absolutely stunning! Used to be my favorite gull until I saw the Sabine's Gull and then it got moved to 2nd place ;)

That's awesome! I quite enjoyed when that happen while doing this challenge haha. Made life easier. Congrats on your Belted Kingfisher!
Rough-legged Hawk would be a cool species to see for sure. We gotta both go out and get that on camera soon
Yes we really do! Would be an amazing adventure!
My favorite bird of the day was the Great Horned Owl.
That's a great pick! They are very cool!
This is a fun idea!
It was a lot of fun!
The views there look extraordinary!
They were indeed!

Love the videos!
Thank you! Glad you like them!
ooooh such a fun challenge! Also a huge oat milk fan lol but i prefer it in lattes
It was quite fun! Definitely worth trying! Good catch on the Oat Milk haha! I think it tastes better than almond. Fun fact: I'm allergic to dairy.
@@brighteyedbirding oh dang!! I just have the good old fashioned intolerance. A dairy allergy would be tricky!
Bright eyed birding do you have any budget binoculars recommendations?
I look forward to answering this question. I believe Vortex may have a pair under $100 at the moment if you need to be quick with it though.
