I liked "The Game of Thrones" reference, but I did hope that you were only referring to the first few seasons. The last ones were like going out birding and only seeing starlings and pigeons.
I saw a small flock of American Pipits up here in Minnesota last week! Merlin caught their calls, or else I would have just thought they were some normal (around here) finch or sparrow. I was watching a pond at the time, so having them show up where they aren't expected was cool.
Back in 2012, a group of six Mandarins flew into my local hotspot lake. They were super sketchy and wouldn’t allow close approach at all. They also avoided the other wild and domestic ducks. I was thinking at the time that they should at least be provisional, but still today they are considered escapees.
Yep it’s not really standardized. It depends state to state and sometimes even by county too. Muscovy Ducks are all over Southern California but they don’t count but they are countable in Florida. It’s really interesting
Yes I have, they're so beautiful in real life! I spotted a pair at Tewinkle Park in Costa Mesa, CA near the fairgrounds.Good variety of birds Great video!
Nice video! The Mandarin Duck is suck an odd pickup and “lifer”! I got that bird on my October big day and just had to laugh, sticks out like a sore thumb among the mallards!
Good morning to you from Singapore 🇸🇬. Some of the most in incredible ducks 🦆 are the Wood Ducks and the Mandarin Ducks, the Madagascar Pochard are among the list of not just being beautiful, but also rare ducks. Do you know the cartoon between Porky Pig and Daffy Duck who often quarrel like this : “It’s duck season. It’s pig season.” 😆😁🤣
I've been looking for a Mandarin for years and haven't gotten one, so glad you got him! There was several reports of a male and a female pair with ducklings in Utah County earlier this year, so I wonder if they count because there's documentation of them breeding in the state like that.

That’s awesome! Yeah typically they fly through areas so being able to pick up there calls is key! Great find!
Such a beautiful duck.

I got my mandarin duck lifer at Tiergarten park in Berlin, Germany, where they've been introduced, a couple of years ago. A truly magnificent bird.

We will have to take you to one then! I believe they did count as provisional yes. Interesting that they seem to be moving around as well!
Mandarin Duck and Wood Duck are related.
Makes sense why they are the BEST DUCKS
