Not sure what the standard Hz refresh rate is but you usually want to lock the frame rate at the Hz speed. 4k is huge demand to have over 60fps. This laptop compared to other lower end ones, is a gaming beast.

You should review Pop_OS! from a windows users perspective and go into more details on why it wasn't working for you. Be a contrast to all the linux hype you see on youtube.

Thanks for a good overview and some good takes To me it looks like the firefly also could work well for engineering students (web stidies with some meetups at campus) On the go project starts and overview, while having unlimited power from a desktop at home. Portable and travel friendly. And you get a numpad. That is a big selling point. Comparing firefly to graphics equipped thinkpads, price is favourable to thinkpads (in my market). Even competes well with elitebooks here

Well for me personally I have a galaxy tab s7 plus, and can't lie it takes a beating and still using to this day, got it as a gift, one thing I can say is I use it for my college work and the screen size is definitely useful if your traveling and need to get some work done, as I'm taking IT go figure right, but well put, I myself am new as well, love the breakdowns keep it up.

I just found a great deal for this on a refurbished I9 13900 for $1350 on Amazon. Most of the reviews say the Gen 14 is minimally faster than the 13th Gen, it just runs hotter.

I'm considering buying this dell. I talked with dell about buying the 2TB SSD and adding an HDD for backup. The dell assistant I talked to said that I could do it but max would be a 2TB HDD. Does anyone know why I can't do a 4TBHDD, what would be the issue, maybe besides they didn't test it that way??? Any info is helpful, thanks.

Andy, you rock! Great review. I just ordered the top-of-the-line 14th generation i9 24-core version of the XPS 8960. Cost me around $3,500, but it's replacing a four- to five-year-old Dell. That's a long time to wait for the newest technologies. I'm getting two, 1TB SSD drives with 32GB of RAM. Looking forward to a much better and faster performance. By the way, I'm not a gamer, so none of that interests me at all. I'm hoping for faster internet speeds and better performance on the apps I use most - Photoshop and Powerpoint.| For a smoother transition, I've decided to pay my local IT shop to do the changeover for me. Makes it faster and easier for me, and while they're in the shop I'll have my Dell Inspiron laptop to work with. I just subscribed, so I'll look for your upcoming videos.

Thanks for the review. I think your right, 800+ is alot for a tablet. At that price id probably be more interested in a laptop for more serious tech needs. The A9 is more price friendly and powerful enough to just watch netflix in bed or on trips with.

Good job, only critique is single channel vs dual channel memory is a big deal for most applications.

Okay, I build PCs for a while and I can barely do it with two hands and you doing it with one? Cmon! You making me look bad man!! xD Jokes aside, if you want my opinion I would suggest to add another stick of ram (preferably one just like the one who bought) for the dual channel memory besides that I say this is a really great budget workstation, specially if you intend to upgrade down the line since AMD uses the same socket for a long time compared to Intel.

I think you should return the ssd and buy an NVME drive. The speeds are much faster and essentially the same price.

Im a huge fan of the xps series! I never had a gaming pc growing up and one day someone i knew was recycling their old Dell XPS 8900 with an i7-6700 w/ 16gb ram. I asked if i can take it off their hands and i got it for free! easily was the best pc ive had up until that point. I started doing some reasearch and realized that the XPS 8900 had GPU power cabels and i didnt have to upgrade the power supply! I sourced a gtx 1060 3gb for about $70 (2020 covid era prices) and threw it in!. Being able to play PC games for the first time was a life changing moment for me and it influenced my hobby of building custom PCs now! I attribute that motivation to that Dell XPS 8900 i got for free from the nice person. I gave that Dell away to a friend of mine after i upgraded but recently i picked up the same Dell which i plan to strip and turn into a mini-itx build! Overall, love the XPS series and am forever grateful for it!

I got this Laptop too: a downer if you use dual rank ram the ram will work only at 3.600 MHz instead 4.800 MHz. (use micron 128GB ECC RAM) Even the preinstalled 32GB 5.600 MHz Kit was running at 4.000 MHz I installed 2x Samsung 990 PRO 2 TB in the lower ports and only(!) in the upper ports HP allows 4 TB drives. This makes total of 12 TB on M.2. SSDs. BUT: i modded the lower ssds with a copper cooling plate with 0,5mm and use Artic Cooling TP3 thermal pads. The difference: SSD1 modded: RAM max 65 degrees Controller max 77 degrees SSD2 original: RAM max 73 degrees Controller 100 degrees All Pad replaced by Artic cooling Pads. Without modding I think it would not be able to run 12TB on SSDs.

I bought this 2023 XPS 8960 DESKTOP ...But upgraded few tings, 32 to 64G/1TB to 2TB/ 13th Gen Intel® Core™ i9-13900K processor (24-Core, 32MB Cache, 3.0 GHz to 5.4GHz/NVIDIA(R) GeForce RTX(TM) 4070 Ti 12GB GDDR6X paid little over 3 grand for it , THE FIRST one i got was defected some of the hard drive or was graphic card don't know which didn't work right , i couldn't even put the PC to sleep after i work on it or almost 30 days even throw DELL they don't know shyt about technical support they are just bunch a call center, read from transcript in front of them for trouble shoot no wonder all 1 star reviews all over the internet about DELL DUH.. in the end send it the back, the second one i got works GREAT no issues

Hi Andy, great review, even though everything - including you - is pink... ;-) - I hope you're still using your UM773... Owning a UM773 by myself I've still got some problems with this very nice and tiny little machine. Running a dual boot system (Linux/Windows 11) is really stable, but there are some issues. Maybe you have got suggestions: - Do you have experience with DDR5 RAM >4800? - I tried it but it wasn't quicker as DDR5@4800... - Do you have experience with Virtualisation under Windows 11? - I've got issues with VirtualBox and VMware trying to run virtual machines under Windows 11 (using Hyper-V does work but is awefully slow :( ) - Even after the latest BIOS update and AMD driver update I sometimes have "hick ups" under Windows and Linux for example when streaming UA-cam Videos. The system freezes for a tiny moment which leads to a klick in sound and a "millisecond freeze" then it continues. - Sometimes it lasts aprox 30s - edit: where the vent is running at high speed - after switching on the PC until it starts to boot the OS. - ... The pros of the UM773: - It outperforms my NUC by far - It's power consumption is very low. (aprox. 10W in idle on linux and 20W under common use in average) - It's very quiet when the power management is configured correctly - The CPU power consumption can be configured (15W, 2xW, 35W, 45W, ...) in the BIOS - The GPU performance is hugely above Intel based comparable mini PCs - The CPU outperforms Intel CPUs consuming a comparable amount of power, in multithread tasks even the latest ones. - ... What is your experience? - Do you have similar- or other issues?

do not buy these pieces of junk. they hit max cpu temp and throttle down within seconds of putting them under load. @5:43 you can see the issue. They have a tiny 80mm heat sink on the cpu that they say is standard for a 65 W processor. This is either a lie or they have no clue. the 13700 min is 65 w and it can hit over 200 quite quickly. This is the same heat sink they have used even back on the 11700 processors and they would over heat. If you purchase a 8960 get the water cool option or heck spend the money @ microcenter. they will build the computer for you and it wont have the overheating issues. Why spend top dollar on tech that will perform at a lower level than systems built 5 -7 years ago?

Also keyboard battery needs replacement. I really miss the separate functionality.
