Good Morning Vincenzo! Wow! Hadn't seen that pen before and it is just AMAZING! The resin is stunning, the size and the balance posted looks SO tempting! Unfortunately, I have just purchased my first Italian pen and can't get one right now, but this one is for sure on the list! WOULD be even nicer with the Rose Gold, but it is SUPER nice with the ruthenium trim. Thanks for sharing it with us!

I have seen a number of Gioia pens but his one speaks to me, if you know what I mean. That it does not have an ink window is a concern but not overly. My Leonardo Momento Zero Grande does not and I would not stop using it. The resin is fabulous, perhaps the main reason I am attracted to the pen. The price is a little high. Perhaps if it was $40 less, I would buy it now. But it is on my list for pens to get. Thank you for the review, Vincenzo.

Hello Mr. Vincenzo! Another interesting recap, as usual! Really interesting, the pens you plan to take on your voyage! I personally think that the Kaweco Perkeo is a much overlooked pen! It is one of my choices for EDC, in fact I had mine with me at work last night. Really like the way it writes. Got my green Hongdian A-9 the other day and am REALLY enjoying that one! The nib is wonderful! Have a good week!

Lovely vintage pen. No need to have new pens every week. That must be a pressure on your budget. Nice square chronometer by the way. Or is that a smart watch with a cool face and band? I picked up the Tuzu in Japan (which does come in a nicer box, as you noted last week). I think lefties will appreciate it more. Good EDC pen for me. Looking forward to your Italian reports. I know very little about Italian pens, and would love to learn about their history. I know nothing about papers or inks from there either.. Enjoy food, cafe life, and just walking around there. Ciao

Another wonderful recap Vincenzo. Yeah I saw the new colored 1935's. I saw at least 3 or 4 different model Banju's one of which was a pocket model. The model numbers of your vintage Waterman are as follows: 0=Gold Filled, 5=14Kt Gold Overlay, 1=Cone cap Eyedropper (as opposed to screw cap) and finally 2=The nib size. You've come to find out that flexibility of nibs can be variable even among different vintage pens. I read that 20's era Waterman nibs tended to be more flexible, but that's a generalization that may not hold true. My latest vintage acquisition - A Mabie Todd & Co. Swan SF2B in Sterling Silver overlay with an Oblique Broad nib. Now a thought on nibs. I must say, you sent me down a side branch of my rabbit hole. The first video that I saw with you swatching ink with that pen really peaked my interest, but I don't recall you doing anything but making a passing reference. Well, I figured it out. I never heard such a thing before, but now I know it's a folded nib pen & sometimes referred to as a ruling pen (not the same nib though they act/write in the same way). I know I could make one from a soda can, but I found a source and ordered just the nib. This will be a new adventure into a different way of writing for certain occasions. Have a wonderful trip, and enjoy the experiences!!

I have some Bexley's from about 20 years ago. I really like them. I find the Vanishing Point stubs too crisp. I have trouble writing with them (leftie underwriter). But once they are smoothed out by a nib smith, they are great (for me). I often travel with Opus 88s -- lots of ink, and cutoff valve. I recommend not taking a pen with a sac on an airplane.

Hi Vincenzo, interesting video (as usual). I was asking myself if I would buy the Banju pen, now I'm going to wait a bit :-). For your Waterman; and the downward curve of the nib, this is something which can be found in many flex nibs: the reason is this: when you don't push downward ( = you don't want to flex but you want a thin line), the tines tends to open up to have the ink flow, even with the 2 parts of the tip staying grouped. But as soon you increase the pressure, the tines and tip spread, and then you can have thick lines. In a general way, you can more easily write thin lines (being very light). Many Pelikan 140 has also this kind of curvature but a bit less from what I see in your video. From what I see for your nib in the video, it is also possible that someone has curved the nib a bit too much during a restoration (the angle seems to me a bit tight at only one point of the nib, and not enough curved all along: but I can be totally wrong: the most important is how you feel with the nib and writing). Oh you also have for example the modern Platinum 3776 with the SF nib (soft Fine) which has this kind of curvature. For the feed, I have no idea: feeds are more complex to understand. The Pelikan 140 (you could get also a 400 which is a bit longer): the 140 nib is "insanilly" good. Enjoy it 🙂 ! Again, thank you for having mention my video ....

Every 14K gold, Waterman nibs are different..some flex more than others and some might be stiffer. You never know what you’re gonna get. But usually if the tines are long, that’s a telltale sign that it will be flexy.

Enjoying the video and the Bexley pen looked so wet and juicy. Very nice. I think I have two around and JoWo does sell the nibs but I think the housing is wonky so no easy nibs swaps. 1. I think the focus on vintage for flex is overblown. I couldn't flex my Waterman 52 any better than my modern flexers. In my hands, at least, your FPR or Noodler's would be just as good as any other. 2. I think the worry of having nice pens lost or stolen during travel is overblown. I have never had a pen lost or stolen when traveling. Have you? 3. My experience flying with pens is that as long as you don't open them on the plane, there is no problem. 4. UA-camr Craig Roccanova collects Watermans, you might give him a look. 5. I look forward to hearing what you think of Sardinia.

Hello Vincenzo, though I'm not interested in inks so much, I like your ink and paper test very much. A good idea, comparing paper and its reaction to the same ink. Maybe you will add a 5th paper from a cheap legal pad source in future. Speaking about your Fuliwen 017, I saw the same problem of insufficient ink flow after a year of use and rest. My guess is, that the rather cheap converter is the reason for it. I first did a nib swap from the original M to a Kanwrite B nib. This was tricky, as the Kanpur #6 nibs are having a 6.4 mm width , not 6 mm as a Standard #6 nib. Done that, the original converter made suddenly more problems as it was sitting much too loose on the housing end. Now I solved all those problems by converting the FP into an Eyedropper, added 2 O-rings from my PenBBS repair kit and the Fuliwen is again writing without skips. Maybe that or changing in first place the converter (but I dont know if it's a chinese big bore or standard international size) might help you with your Fuliwen.

Thank you so much for this review! I love your pen reviews! I’m serious about my paper also so I appreciate learning about everything out there! I recently bought(haven’t used it yet)a Galen notebook for my Galen portfolio !

Glad it was helpful! The Galen Tomoe River Notepad forms part of most of my reviews.

Just got mine today! I am starting in this.. do you have a review of how to input the cartdrige into int so i can start writing?

No I do not . But you just push the cartridge in and give it a little time for the ink to flow down to to the nib. Storing it for a few minyes with the nib down may help.

Hi Mr.V! Thanks for your review of the Tuzu! Might pick one up sometime, just because of the adjustable feature. Really, I consider the Safari a better bargain and I am also a big fan of the Diplomat Magnum. It is a little too small for most folks, but I LOVE that pen! Really nice nib, ink window. Now the supplied converter is the cheapest thing I ever saw, but I replaced it with a better one. Have a good week!
