Great review as always, Vincenzo. A good looking pen, and I am beginning to form the same opinion as you regarding piston fillers. My preference is for the converters that screw into the section, as I feel they represent a better engineered compromise. A great example of this is the Jinhao 9019 which has a large capacity (2.2ml) screw in converter.
Thank you for the review as always, Vincenzo. I have been writing with the A9 for a few days now, also with a Sailor Manyo ink, and I have to agree with you - I like it better than my N10. I like the lighter weight, grippier section, cartridge converter, better posting, more visible nib. For a nib, it is super juicy with the ebonite feed on good paper. If Hongdian brings out a nib, if not a , it will be a killer combination.
My pen arrived this afternoon. It is a very dark blue and I wasn't expecting that. I do think I prefer the lighter, softer blue. You're always entertaining, Vincenzo.
Good Day Mr. V! Thanks for showing us the A9! What a really interesting design on the barrel and cap! No.8 nibs are so nice to write with! The A9 seems like a super bargain!
I was just scrolling on taobao and I was suprised to see the new A9. I went to your channel immediately and low and behold, you uploaded a review 2 hours ago!
I like this pen and your passionate and detailed review. As Dante Del Veccio said, he is passionate about pens. I believe that this hobby is certainly one for passion. In any case, thank you for the review. I have the N10 and while I enjoy it, this A9 is I think a better pen. My only wish is that they made a larger converter like Jinhao. Off to ordering the pen...
That is my conclusion as well. Stay tuned I just received and briefly featured on my recap the D5S- its the converter version of the D5. Looks like a new trend for Hongdian.
Ink can change the way a nib feels. I have Sailor ink in my fine N11 & it has a wider line than the fine nib in my A9, also feels smoother. Would be interesting to compare these pens with same ink.
You are so right. But lately I have noticed that there is a distinct difference between a chrome nib and one that is black or even dual toned. Maybe its just me.
Thank you Vincent! I am on a buying freeze right now but I have the N10 and it is great! I like the convenience of converters and would love to have the A9 as well. I have seen it selling for as little as $15 USD, what a great deal at that price!
If you unscrew the cap while applying slight pressure on the cap toward the barrel, as you get to the end of the threads, slow down and continue turning until the cap is all the way released and continue until you feel a small click, then screw the cap back on and you will be on the next engagement point for the line alignment. There are 3 on this pen, only one will make the lines correct.
Great review! I got mine today in brown. The lines on barrel & cap are perfectly aligned 🙂.I'm ordering a green one now. Fantastic #8 nib with ebonite feed. Cheers.
Hong Dian's are really very reliable, well made writing instruments, still fair priced. I got 21 different models, none of them ever let me down, even the slim barrel FP's are well made, smooth writers. On some models I did a nib swap with original HD replacement nibs and units (preferably the black colored nibs). And learned the hard way that HD used over the time at least 3 different plastic housing types, feeds and nib sizes for their #6 size nibs. The last model (I call it 3rd gen. unit) seems to be the best, providing a lot of improvement on ink flow and nib tip smoothness. yeah, I'm also a die hard fan of Hong Dian's. And, shame on me, I somehow missed that gorgeous Model 100. I saw it several time, the images the sellers are providing made me thought it's another slim barrel model. But no, its a full fledged adult FP. Now I have to convince myself to break my "no more FP to buy"-rule....
I'm still waiting for my A9 to arrive in the mail, but I'm glad to see that it doesn't look like it will be a disappointment. Now, let's hope that they start making medium and broad nibs one of these days. Thanks for the review!
I am really looking forward to the nib episodes. Being farely new to the fountain pen hobby, understanding about the different nibs will be of tremendous value.
Great Video Vincenzo!!! Highlight of my week, always look forward to your videos! Will definitely be getting this pen ASAP! I agree with you that hongdian should add a medium…I can imagine the shock in the community. Thanks again!
I have recently bought this pen from Etsy . Very nice pen with a comfortable grip for long writing .The nib has a bit of feedback and is not scratchy at all. Ebonite feed with no 8 size nib is not very common with under $30 pen . I have ordered a fine nib and am very happy with the purchase❤
The A9 seems to be a much more elegant pen on the exterior. I also agree the section on the A9 is better looking and probably more comfortable to write with.
Very nice. I love Hongdian & Asvine nibs but I'm going to have to take a pass on this one. My JD Big Metal 149 just arrived. It's not as big as the Namiki one. Wow, it's a lot nicer. It's hard to find. I checked everywhere and could only find one seller out of all the usual places who had one, on eBay. I'm going to give it a quick wash and ink it up.
That ugly line is a deal breaker for me...sorry...As a low income senior, i can only afford budget pens and only rarely. I wanted to like this pen, but I'm afraid that line....in much the same way as a crooked painting on the wall drives me crazy....😅

The medium nib would run like a Broad The nib is very nice.
Nice video, Vincenzo!
Grazie!

I prefer the blue on the N10. Thanks for the kind words.

Off to ordering the pen...
Enjoy it.
Vincenzo, your reviews are always great to watch. I do not have any Hongdian pens at the moment and after watching your video, that might change.
I strongly recommend Hongdian. It was my Chinese pen maker of the year last year.
I’m liking cartridge converters more and more. The ease of cleaning is so nice.
That is my conclusion as well. Stay tuned I just received and briefly featured on my recap the D5S- its the converter version of the D5. Looks like a new trend for Hongdian.

Great review! Hongdian does produce a fine pen!
It sure does and with variety as well.

Oh yes. Let me know if you see it again at that price as I want to get the other 2 colors.

I hate to break it to you. Its a really nice pen.

I love broad nibs, tired of the Fude nib offering or Bent nib.
@tbayless8324 I'm also a fan of broad nibs, and fude nibs are not a reasonable substitute
@@thewetpen Ohhhhh ...Don't you know it !!!!
Thanks for sharing. I also truly believe the chrome version of that nib is wetter than the black toned one. But maybe its just me.

It would sell like hot cakes.
Gracias por la revisión de esta estilográfica. Saludos
You are so welcome
Nice video. Always interesting to know new pens, specifically cheap pens. Thank you so much.

My only remaining question is: Do I buy EF or F? 😁
Really good question. But your question has made me realize that I do not have a EF in that nib. I will definitely order another color with EF.
@@fountainpentherapy I'll be tuning in to hear your impressions!
Follow up question; have you had any ink leakage or burping?
None so far.

I can see how it would. Its going to be a deal breaker for many.
