A Chinese here. This pen, Jinhao 1935, is associated with the Chinese national anthem, March of the Volunteers, which was created in 1935. You will find on the pen the red star, machete and violin. The first two relate to the time period of the song, a time when China was fighting back against Japanese aggression (a part of WW2); the violin implies that the pen honors the songwriter, Nie Er. The pen is clearly designed for Chinese domestic consumers. But hope you find it interesting and meaningful as well :)
Thank you for this historical comment, and for the explanation of the symbolism. I am acquainted with the "March of the Volunteers" under a different name, having read in the 1970s the little book On the Long March with Chairman Mao by Chen Chang-feng. I still have my copy after these long years. And, yes! clearly designed for the domestic Chinese market. In the current era. And yet a pen any lover of fountain pens one could use regularly and enjoy.
There is a whole cultural, historical and political commemoration to that pen that I wanted to avoid mentioning due to a possible political overtone, but which many viewers pointed out. I will revisit this in my next recap.
@@fountainpentherapy A completely understandable, even laudable, concern. In this case, it simply is what the pen is about. I think our fellow fountain pen lovers can distinguish between support for a political system and historical interest or aesthetic appreciation. Thanks again for a very fine review!
@@crousermvery interesting. I was wondering about that clip. I always love learning more about culture symbolized. BY a pen.
Nice enthusiastic review. It certainly made your day. I also love a good deal on a reliable pen.
As a China pen lover, let me explain. This is a memorial to Nie Er's march of the volunteers(China's national anthem). The pen clip is the composer's small guitar. The prototype is now in the Yunnan Provincial Museum .
I will revisit this in my next recap thanks for the info.
The Nie Er instrument on display in the Yunnan museum is a violin. Chinese pen makers have made several unmistakable snake, dragon (and 1 crocodile ) clips. these clips have eyes, scales, teeth, etc. Jinhao should have made a violin clip that could not be mistaken for a guitar.
It's so exciting and fun when a lower cost pen writes so great!!!! You almost feel like you won the lottery lol!
I also prefer a converter! 😅
Thanks for showing us this pen!
I agree!! Chris. I have no problem buying on the other sites like Ali Express. How are you?
I did have some problems with the nib and I have other things to share. Stay tuned to my next recap. And thanks for your contributions to our community Chris. Greatly appreciate it. we should organize one great party for all of us and share our love for this great hobby. Its on my bucket list.
Gracias.
Zidharta...lovely comment!
I just LOVE your enthusiasm...it is infectious! I also LOVE the name of your channel as it allows me feel OK...a bit more... about my continued intrigue regarding now...cheaper fountain pens and how pretty they can be.
I so much appreciate you and 6'6" Doodlebug...thanks a bunch... from Janis... on the shores of Kookatsoon Lake ...on the South Klondike Highway heading to Carcross Yukon and Skagway Alaska ...The Yukon Canada.
I now want ...maybe 2 of these pens as I love a #8 NIB SIZE and I want to gift one to a guitar playing friend. I also LOVE that red colour.
Thank you for the kind words.
I have been buying and selling Jinhao fountain pens for 5 years on my indoor market stall in Stroud uk
This pen is a great celebration of their wonderful history ❤
Indeed.
Well, I went back & bought it at a great price and totally surprised myself by really liking the pen. You were absolutely correct!
Glad you like it
I should be getting mine soon. Thank you for the review. I am sure I will be pleased as much as you.
I have found that the larger converter is a good alternative to Jinhao making a piston filler pen.
Jinhao nibs have gotten much better over the past two years, much like the nibs from Hong Dian has. But the two companies have taken different approaches as Hong Dian nibs have a soft, bouncy feel.
I do wish Hong Dian would release more pens that use the #8 nib but they have been very quiet this year.
I have 2 Hongdian surprises to mention. Stay tuned for my next recap. I am not sure how many viewers have picked up on them yet. They are in the pipeline.
Great video love this pen!
Thanks!
Cool pen! I want a blue 💙 pen! Those little fins; in the acrylic; is for stabilizing the converter, so it doesn't rattle.
I would argue that their main purpose is to prevent the cracking, Jinhao has a long history of cracking issues. Then they realized they can stop the rattle of the converter with them. Win-win.
blue on this pen might change its spirit…
There is a whole cultural, historical and political commemoration to that pen that I wanted to avoid mentioning due to a possible political overtone, but which many viewers pointed out. I will revisit this in my next recap.
Perhaps, when this model succeeds, Jinhao will build variations on its style in different colours. Perhaps they may name the new variations Jinhao X1935 🙂
Hi Vincenzo! Thank you for this comprehensive and beautiful presentation of a very significant Jinhao fountain pen. Thank you for sharing your passion for creating reviews, with beautiful introductions!
Thank you!
It looks like a little gem, the designers and engineers did a great job over at Jinhao, creating an hommage to the chin. national anthem composed in 1935 (thanks to the explanations in the comments given by some attentive viewers). The #8 nib is intriguing. Have fun with it.
I will have a further update on my weekly experience with the pen on this week's recap
Thanks for this review, Vincenzo! This is the first time I've heard of this pen. I think I just might have to buy one!
Hope you enjoy it!
@@fountainpentherapyThanks! I ordered the nib this morning.
Received today too. Aesthetic considerations aside, always subjective, the only drawback, as "Une Fontaine De Plumes" says, is the thin and weak transparent plastic of the bar. But for 12 eur delivered I paid for it, I can't complain.
Isn't he insightful? I saw that video after I posted mine but I will revisit and credit his comments in my next recap. I thinks its important.
Happy to see you enjoying your golf ⛳️
& enjoyed your fountain pen review as always 🖋️🖋️
Thanks 👍
Nice review! I know what my next pen purchase is going to be…
Enjoy.
Hi Mr. V! Thanks for showing us yet another amazing pen from Jinhao! I see you share my appreciation for the Jinhao #8 nib. I have THREE 9019's, and the XF and the F perform very similarly to the 1935. Oddly the only one I've had trouble with is the M. Was very dry and skippy. Have worked with it now and it writes quite well. I am also extremely pleased with the one in my X-159. Why spend $1,000 for a Montblanc, when you can have the Jinhao and the Wingsung version for less than $100! Converters are about the best filling mechanism on pens today. I liken them to a mini piston fill. Plus, you can remove and replace a converter should you have a problem. Can't do that with a piston or vac fill pen. They have to be serviced. Have to put in a word for Oxblood from Diamine! That was the first ink I ever bought that was not black. It is a LOVELY ink! I have at least two pens loaded with it at any time.
I ma string to think that piston fillers are overrated. Speaking of converters. Stay tuned I have 2 Hongdian surprises for my weekly recap that I am not sure everyone caught so far.
1st time in my life, that I wanted to buy a product domestically after I watched a recommended video from a US gentleman,🤣 thanks !
That is awesome! By the way I am Canadian, but I understand what you mean.
Flat top....converter....red....#8 nib. Winning combination. ✒️❤️
Diamine Red Dragon would be really nice in this pen. My favorite red ink.
Another nice ink.
The notches at the back are there to hold the converter steady and keep it from rattling.
Thats it. I recall having heard of their function but I could not remember.

KOOL 😎
Grazie
Wonderful as always. Thks for the info and the production value. Can you clarify that pad if paper, the brand and how you choose which paper the pad is made up of?
bank paper par purchased on Etsy:tinyurl.com/y5ccdzy5
have been using Tomoe river for a while for the sake of consistency but I feel; it may be a good idea to offer my viewers variety and at the same time share my paper collection. I have a two guide videos on notepads that reviewed over 150 products. why not share them each week.
Very nice pen! I enjoyed the video because of your excitement! And : did you test Oxblood previous if it would match? I can see NO other color with this nib- it’s perfection! Good ink choice and a very classy red.
Its a great ink in a very interesting pen.
Really nice review. Every time I watch your videos, one thing pops into my head: movie "My Cousin Vinnie". Have you seen it? He was a lawyer too. My favorite part is when he asked a judge to treat his fiance as hostile witness.😂 I hope you never needed to treat your wife like that.
Anyway, thanks for the videos!
Great comedy. I could not stop laughing.
Thanks a lot for this excellent and energetic review, Vincenzo! Out of curiosity: which nib would you prefer to use: this nib or that of the Asvine V200's?
Thanks again!
The Jinhao No 8 size Medium nib. However, I did experience a problem this week with it that I will revisit during my next recap.
@@fountainpentherapy Thanks a lot for your answer. I look forward to watching your next weekly recap 🙂
Agree 100%
Thanks
@InkquiringMinds would probably love this pen, or at least the clip design.
We shall see.
Did he say he was getting one? I know he wasn’t much of an Admock M800 fan, but maybe you’ll have more in common with this one.
The Nahvalur Original Plus is only about $55, which makes it a good pen for the price.
Last time I checked it varies between $70 and $100 but I am sure that if one digs around they can find it at that price. Also keep in mind the exchange rate. Even 55$ for us Canadians is $80 and sometimes I forget to mention the currency. I also had terrible experiences with the Original and also their nibs. Not my favorite.
@@fountainpentherapy yes, I wasn't thinking of the Canadian dollar.
Oh no I’ve just bought a Narwhal!,!
As they say there is always another Pen.
I have been looking forward to this video and it did not disappoint.
The aspects of the pen that I was interested in you covered them all. Size✓, girth of section ✓, and the main reason why everyone (HOPES) they can obtain when purchasing a fountain pen is the writing experience. Well done 👍.
Grazie
Nice pen. However, that guitar shape clip is a deal breaker for me. Very good review as always.
I did say that the guitar may be a deal breaker for some. But there is a whole commemoration that this pen represents. I will get into the details in my next recap.
After some comments I understand the symbols.
Nice pen, but not my preferred style
I will add it to my collection, though.
There is a whole cultural, historical and political commemoration to that pen that I wanted to avoid mentioning due to a possible political overtone, but which many viewers pointed out. I will revisit this in my next recap.
Bought onw
Hope you enjoy it!
Add some different colours and this pen will sweep the board at that price point.
Given what this pen represents it's not probable that they will offer other colors, but it's a perfect excuse to create another new design similar to this one.

Mine is at Pearson (Toronto) waiting to go through customs! I love these #8 Jinhao nibs.
Would you please tell us which #8 nib you got into the big metal pen? Don't take it out. It might not go back in but if you could tell us how you did it that would be great.
Its the No8 Jinhao-
Fun video. I don't think I will get this pen. I don't like the clip or the finial. But over all, the nib and the converter is a plus. Thank you for the review.
Thanks for sharing!
Hate the clip, love your review. I understand the historical significance, I will probably get one and try to remove the clip and get a second just to have a part of history.
As I said that clip may be a deal breaker either way.
I don't mind the star, but that clip, in my opinion, totally cheapens this pen. I don't care how nicely it writes. I would have to look at it if I bought one, and for me, that would be a bridge too far!
It is still a great video for those who are into the pens made in China, and it is certainly a great service to those who are Vincenzo.
Thank you!
Lisa

But as I said in my video that clip could be a deal breaker
@@fountainpentherapy I love guitar music, but I don't want a guitar clip on any of my fountain pens. I'm kind of a purist that way. But yes, I know what you are referring to, and I think it is a shame there is even a need to explain oneself. Either a person likes the guitar shaped clip or they don't. When I spend my hard-earned money, I must like the item to be purchased in whole, so I wouldn't purchase this pen even though it writes like a dream. I can't afford to settle for something less than what I want. I'm 65 and I work two jobs.
Like your show but this pen is a surprise. Like the size & #8 nib, but it looks like a trinket from a Mao Tse Tung gift shop. Can't agree with you on this one.
As I said you either love it or hate it.
I certainly appreciate your enthusiasm for the pen, but I don't think I'll be getting anytime soon or at all. My focus is elsewhere!
Got you.
Uncle is rich
LOL
I do not like the guitar clip.
as I said it will be a deal breaker.
Get rid of the useless stuff (guitar and star) and you have a banger right there.
I will revisit the symbols in my next recap. But as I said those features can be deal breakers one way or another.
I do not like the clip. It should be a sword to match the nib. I have a spare crocodile clip and I hope that I will be able to swop it for the guitar clip.
Please read the explanations above for what each element represents.
