I’m relieved to see the massive amount of pens you have inked up! I always worry I have too many inked… and yet… I have never had a problem.
I will reduce the number of pens as I get closer to departure.
Still full of enthusiasm Vincenzo & plenty content live it👌
I am having a ball.
Vincenzo, greetings from Ireland! Thank you for another wonderful video. Sundays are a pleasure spending an hour with you. The format is perfect. I hope vintage pens are your new grail. You were so excited over that Waterman. It would be lovely to see you excited about more. Enjoy your trip to Italy. Say hello to everyone at Stilo for me. I've been buying a lot there lately. I was only in the store once many years ago before I acquired the fountain pen habit. I bought a beautiful leather bag I still use almost 20 years later. You said recently you're lucky. Stay lucky, my friend. And an early happy birthday to you! Look forward to seeing the videos from Italy. Take care.
Grazie molto!
Enjoying the video and the Bexley pen looked so wet and juicy. Very nice. I think I have two around and JoWo does sell the nibs but I think the housing is wonky so no easy nibs swaps. A Bexley Jitterbug pocket pen I purchased was a prototype tuned by Richard Binder and truly fun to use as a small pocket pen with the distinctive clip.
I have sveral and they are really nice writers and well made.
Please enjoy your trip to Italy. I deal with Ornella Pissiano, the owner of Stilo e Stile. They have a wonderful selection of pens, including a great collection of Leonardo pens.
Perhaps you can get a tour of Visconti in Florence.
Please enjoy the trip.
Visconti is on my list and I too buy from Stilo e Stile and it will be fun seeing them in person.
Hello Mr. Vincenzo! Another interesting recap, as usual! Really interesting, the pens you plan to take on your voyage! I personally think that the Kaweco Perkeo is a much overlooked pen! It is one of my choices for EDC, in fact I had mine with me at work last night. Really like the way it writes. Got my green Hongdian A-9 the other day and am REALLY enjoying that one! The nib is wonderful! Have a good week!
Thanks for sharing. That Perkeo is nice indeed.
I love myp136 too but ink window I miss.
I rarely rely on my ink windows.
I was ready to order the blue Tiandao until I noticed that the acrylic is translucent and I'd rather have an opaque acrylic, so I may wait to see what else Jinhao does. That Just Turnings Special Sauce pen; as reviewed by Une Fontaine de Plumes is GORGEOUS!
It sure is. I would pass on the 1935 until we see all the other versions and then we can pick and choose.
Fantastic Vincenzo! Can hardly wait for the next one!
It's a pleasure to wake up on Sunday morning to a new Weekly Recap from you!
Thank you!
Lisa
Thank you so much!
Another wonderful recap Vincenzo. Yeah I saw the new colored 1935's. I saw at least 3 or 4 different model Banju's one of which was a pocket model. The model numbers of your vintage Waterman are as follows: 0=Gold Filled, 5=14Kt Gold Overlay, 1=Cone cap Eyedropper (as opposed to screw cap) and finally 2=The nib size. You've come to find out that flexibility of nibs can be variable even among different vintage pens. I read that 20's era Waterman nibs tended to be more flexible, but that's a generalization that may not hold true. My latest vintage acquisition - A Mabie Todd & Co. Swan SF2B in Sterling Silver overlay with an Oblique Broad nib. Now a thought on nibs. I must say, you sent me down a side branch of my rabbit hole. The first video that I saw with you swatching ink with that pen really peaked my interest, but I don't recall you doing anything but making a passing reference. Well, I figured it out. I never heard such a thing before, but now I know it's a folded nib pen & sometimes referred to as a ruling pen (not the same nib though they act/write in the same way). I know I could make one from a soda can, but I found a source and ordered just the nib. This will be a new adventure into a different way of writing for certain occasions. Have a wonderful trip, and enjoy the experiences!!
Thanks for sharing all that especially info on vintage nibs. I am a rookie in that field and I am just learning as I go along.
@@fountainpentherapy We are all rookies when we start out. I think the key is to never stop learning something new. There are others way more knowledgeable than I am, but that doesn't mean I'll stop trying to gain the knowledge for myself. Even as I approach my 69th rotation of Earth!!
I guess it would be a nice gesture towards Nino Marino showing up and using a Delta pen during your meeting with him.
Indeed.
Are you going to visit the factory of my favorite Italian pen co, Aurora? Have a blessed and enjoyable trip.
Maybe the store but not the factory
Lovely vintage pen. No need to have new pens every week. That must be a pressure on your budget. Nice square chronometer by the way. Or is that a smart watch with a cool face and band?
I picked up the Tuzu in Japan (which does come in a nicer box, as you noted last week). I think lefties will appreciate it more. Good EDC pen for me. Looking forward to your Italian reports. I know very little about Italian pens, and would love to learn about their history. I know nothing about papers or inks from there either.. Enjoy food, cafe life, and just walking around there. Ciao
Thanks for sharing. The watch is an Iwatch from apple. I change the straps.
@@fountainpentherapy I see. Never tried a smart watch. I imagine it is convenient, especially in court.
I have some Bexley's from about 20 years ago. I really like them. I find the Vanishing Point stubs too crisp. I have trouble writing with them (leftie underwriter). But once they are smoothed out by a nib smith, they are great (for me). I often travel with Opus 88s -- lots of ink, and cutoff valve. I recommend not taking a pen with a sac on an airplane.
Thanks for sharing!
Hi Vincenzo, interesting video (as usual). I was asking myself if I would buy the Banju pen, now I'm going to wait a bit :-).
For your Waterman; and the downward curve of the nib, this is something which can be found in many flex nibs: the reason is this: when you don't push downward ( = you don't want to flex but you want a thin line), the tines tends to open up to have the ink flow, even with the 2 parts of the tip staying grouped. But as soon you increase the pressure, the tines and tip spread, and then you can have thick lines. In a general way, you can more easily write thin lines (being very light). Many Pelikan 140 has also this kind of curvature but a bit less from what I see in your video. From what I see for your nib in the video, it is also possible that someone has curved the nib a bit too much during a restoration (the angle seems to me a bit tight at only one point of the nib, and not enough curved all along: but I can be totally wrong: the most important is how you feel with the nib and writing).
Oh you also have for example the modern Platinum 3776 with the SF nib (soft Fine) which has this kind of curvature.
For the feed, I have no idea: feeds are more complex to understand. The Pelikan 140 (you could get also a 400 which is a bit longer): the 140 nib is "insanilly" good. Enjoy it 🙂 !
Again, thank you for having mention my video ....
Thanks for the info on vintage nibs. I am learning as I go along.
Every 14K gold, Waterman nibs are different..some flex more than others and some might be stiffer. You never know what you’re gonna get. But usually if the tines are long, that’s a telltale sign that it will be flexy.
Thanks for sharing
Vincenzo thank you again for your hard work making these videos… I’m looking forward to your trip to the motherland (Italy)… be well and have a great day!
Grazie!
Good morning Vincenzo. Haven't watched the video yet but I'm about to. Just want to say how much I appreciate your hard work and your shared knowledge.
Grazie!
Thank you Vincenzo! Which flex nib from Fountain Pen Revolution did you use for your Asvine V200?
Ultra Flex Chrome version.
Hello Vincenzo, I was eying the Early Dusk ink and thank you for showing on different papers!
Aaaah die Waterman vintage looks so nice and the nib is a dream! Enjoy, you have beautiful cursive writing.
I have the TUZU in broad and it’s a tiny bit thinner line than my Leonardo in Medium ☺️
Will there be another FPT video before your trip to Italy?
There will be several other reviews before my trip and probably even during my trip. I will post reviews already prepared.
@@fountainpentherapyyay! 🎉 looking forward also to videos from your trip what you visit and experience. Have a great time in Europe 🎉
Haven’t finished watching this yet, but I just wanted to thank you again for the list of pen shops in Florence and Rome. I had looked up fountain pen shopping in Italy, but the Visconti flagship hadn’t come up. There were several others that didn’t as well. So your list was especially helpful. I am really hoping to get the Visconti Homo Sapiens Dark Matter in an EF nib in Florence. We actually leave today! My granddaughters are coming with us. It’s their first trip. I noticed you are going to Naples. I’m envious. We aren’t making it down that far south this time. My family is from the Naples area. Have a great trip. Looking forward to your videos when you get back. We are leaving the day you arrive, I think. If I glimpse you in the airport I’ll say Ciao.
I am from Sorrento and the Neapolitan culture is my blood. Have a great trip
Swap the VP and the A1 nib units is not a option? Soo you leave the VP and use the A1 with the Pilot nib.
Sounds like an alternative.
That vintage bent nib looks a lot like the modern pilot "post office" (PO) nib. I have not written with the PO nib, but I do not think it’s a flex nib.
The bent nib is supposed to allow you to write normally and flex when needed.
Hello Vincenzo! Another good show. Especially liked seeing what you're taking on your Italy trip.
One minor criticism: the music underneath your intro is a little loud, which makes it difficult to hear you speaking!
I will have to check that for next time. Sometimes its just me, I love when its loud but not if interferes with my own voice. Thanks for sharing that.
1. I think the focus on vintage for flex is overblown. I couldn't flex my Waterman 52 any better than my modern flexers. In my hands, at least, your FPR or Noodler's would be just as good as any other.
2. I think the worry of having nice pens lost or stolen during travel is overblown. I have never had a pen lost or stolen when traveling. Have you?
3. My experience flying with pens is that as long as you don't open them on the plane, there is no problem.
4. UA-camr Craig Roccanova collects Watermans, you might give him a look.
5. I look forward to hearing what you think of Sardinia.
Vintage flex is normally superior...
However not all vintage pens are flexible and they vary in it's flexible ability...... that is the reason why vintage flex pens are so difficult
Thanks for sharing
Don’t take too many pens….don’t bring sand to the beach
Got you.
Hi there....
It's looks a little like the nib one that Waterman's is a little bend....
But don't fix what works...
It's not a easy fix.
Vintage flex pens are difficult not two of them are the same...
Watch out for the vintage fountain pen hole it's a very deep hole... and you are slipping Sir....
I sure am.
@@fountainpentherapy just watch out Sir 😉
You will buy some bad once.... but almost every thing can be fixed...just not every thing were it is financial a good idea to fix.... but as a vintage fountain pens collectors we are wardens of those pens fore future generations ...
