    Think I commented on the original video, but you got some really nice shots. 1:45, 1:57 and the best of the bunch, imo, 3:00, being my favourites....Actually the shot at 1:45 and 3:00 I'll put as joint first place. I kept expecting the Fonz to appear on his bike...😉

      The original video was cropped square and these are back to 4:3 as shot. A little cropping but otherwise just Nostalgic Negative lol. Really works wonders on cars and refections. I actually for some local attention on the first video (never happened before lol) I’m very pleased lol. Anyway, I refocused the video with a gentler tune and full glory on the photos!

    Nice shots Dan...The images at 4:28 and after are really good. Film sim? I've been running the Ilford FP4 B&W last couple of days, but not quite doing it for me. I've found it a touch flat, but it does produce nice/delicate portrait style/subject specific style shots. I'm going to tweak the contrast slightly, just to give a touch more depth/punch and see how it goes...Sometimes these things can be slow burners, and you can really end up liking a look you were initially unsure about...A bit like music, really.

      The X20 is just ‘black and white” no ACROS but there is monochrome +rgb filter. It is my favorite Fuji B&W (no kidding). Mark Adams (one camera one lens) has a really nice one called M10 Monochrom and that is my favorite for APSC. I’m thinking part of the reason the X20 does so well for me is I don’t feel like it’s trying to fight me for exposure. X20 says you want black? OK then black you get. More modern systems are so good at getting exposure “correct” and dynamic range “spot on” that they fail to let you fail lol. I don’t need dynamic range when I’m crunching the crap out of the shadows dang it. I feel the same with highlights…sometimes I blow them out because I want to. I love my GFX for what it does, but again with the crazy killer good dynamic range that can be really hard to push or pull around lol (still…GFX is wonderful). As for settings on the X20 I had S -1, NR -1, H/S -1 & +1, DR 100 and ISO 100 (this little bugger has 100 lol ) P mode and spot point metering. The lens is 24-112mm and I hit the gambit of focal ranges and I found I work it just like the 16-80f4 on the X-Pro3. I used to do weddings so that range of 24-120mm on a zoom is natural for me.

Keyframes are simple once you get the concept. Insta360 also makes a card reader where you remove the sd card and plug it into your phone. The phone allows you to move the actual phone around in open space and see and edit in 360. I bought a card reader a couple years ago hoping I could use it on my iPad. Nope. Just phones. It’s easier for some to visualize the 360 space that way making it easier to edit. The part I really like about 360 video is how easy it is to get 9:16 to 16:9. Well mate, I think you got some great shots, and the way/pace you edited this video, and choice of music, made it very enjoyable viewing..👍......and, one quick question, who was the band playing such a great cover of that Sweet classic? = a really great version. LEO. just LEO. He does really great covers and his UA-cam videos are epic. He covers really well IMO because he has a style. He holds true to the tune but man…he gonna rock it out! lol. I adore music by Sweet. My earliest memories of their music was at a state fair in the mid seventies (I was 10-12) and one of the rides had Ballroom Blitz playing on repeat. I stood by that speaker for a while. It was a couple years later Desolation Boulevard came out. The US version was more of a greatest hits release. I feel like The Sweet were poorly managed here in the US. Sweet had some chart topper singles in the states but they were “singles” and the album was out two years earlier. Fast forward to digitized music and I devoured every Sweet song I could find and loved it all…even the bubblegum of late 60’s. My original choice for this video was Turn It Down but I couldn’t find a copy with Brian Connelly on it…just the remade stuff of recent. (which I like too lol).

    • @innercityunit2112
      @innercityunit2112 22 дні тому

      @@DanFarrar I'll have to check out some of LEO's covers. I'm not really a 'covers' kind of guy, but if they are done well and the artist puts their own stamp on it, gives it a fresh twist, then I'll pay attention. Yes, the Sweet were great and that classic era of glam, 71-76, was amazing. The two artists that really captured my attention back then, 1971 ish and 1972 ish, were Marc Bolan& T.Rex and David Bowie...Hearing Starman on the radio for the very first time, one Sunday evening, on a country walk with my mum and dad, on the official UK top-20 singles chart show, was a real 'lightbulb/wow' musical moment for me. I still remember that feeling it gave me, as if it were yesterday. Been a massive Bowie fan ever since. I think I've been lucky on the music front, as I've always been able to listen to/like/enjoy, all kinds of music...From that early age, 11 to 16, glam bands and chart bands, rock, hard rock, blues rock, bands like Alice Cooper, UFO, Wishbone Ash, Rory Gallagher, Ted Nugent, the ones already mentioned, Slade, Bowie, T-Rex, The Sweet , Roxy Music, Mott, Roy Wood and Wizzard, Sparks, Nazareth, Sabbath, Deep Purple, Yes, Groundhogs, Sassafras, eventually leading on to punk and post punk, new wave etc, etc...Bands from the late 1970's to early '80s that were a big influence, were the likes of Joy Division, Comsat Angels, Psychedelic Furs, Theatre of Hate, Spear of Destiny, Killing Joke, the Banshees, Japan, etc, etc, etc...I could go on all day, lol. A band I do recommend, from the 70s, if you're not familiar, are Be-Bop Deluxe, fronted by ace guitarist and all-round genius musician and song writer, Bill Nelson...and, from the early 80s, Comsat Angels are well worth a check. Their single 'Independence Day' will give you a flavour of what they're all about........As usual, I'm waffling on far too long, lol. Cheers.

    Great video, noticed some awesome skies around the 4-1/2 minute mark as well...So much to take in and so little time as a photographer lol. Ya I agree the X20 (or '20 as I call it, although I do have two Fuji cameras I call that, my X20 and my HS20EXR both of which were wayyyy ahead of their time) is one you can pretty much walk into any situation, street or otherwise, and it can handle it no problem. The lens has a great usable range, nice bright aperture, and the camera handles extremely well. And it even has the "correct" aspect ratio...lol. I do find myself overexposing a lot if I haven't used it in a while, but it's a matter of re-acquainting myself with the cameras "quirks" shall we say and slowing it down....lol. The X20 is a classic street shooter, It's too bad Fuji went big and expensive after that, although that has a place, there really isn't anything out there today that fills the same niche as the x20 (and X10/X30) did.

    • @DanFarrar
      @DanFarrar Місяць тому

      that’s the exact reason I bought it a few months back. I was watching an episode of Prickly Pear Camera and he came across an X20 in a wholesale used box of cameras. As he ran down the specs and how the body operated I was amazed! The perfect mesh of digital and analog and exactly what I wanted. The price had gone way up and was even with the original retail tag from ten years ago! I was hoping for a couple hundred bucks!!! geez. Since I was trading in old stuff in for the purchase price…I went ahead and bought the “like new” condition. I’m glad I did. I’m thinking Fuji got hung up on the Sony RX100 video specs and abandoned the line. Too bad because as an actual point and shoot for photography? I think it’s amazing even today.

I think you captured some really fabulous images here, certainly multiple keepers, imho. Great shots! Great exposures too!, were you using a mix of spot-metering, and multi-metering?...and I love the B&W render...Did you use a recipe? e.g. Tri-X 400?, or just Acros + red?, perhaps?. You are much too kind but I kinda agree lol. I had fun with this one and people were in good spirits all around. I had a great time visiting with some local artists I hadn’t met before and being inspired by their works. Get this 😳 the X20 doesn’t have ACROS. It’s prior so it has the Monochrome +R +Y & +G. The setting I used was Black and White..that’s it, just B&W. I gotta say though…it’s fantastic! I was spot point right down the center and recompose and click. This little bugger has a 28-112mm lens that can focus pretty well (on edges lol). I am not remotely interested in using this camera on manual mode (too fiddly for me) as for in camera settings…which only go to +3 -3 with some at +2 -2 and a limited selection (early Fuji here) anyway, I turned sharpness-1 H/S +1 and noise reduction -1. I don’t take multiples of the same scene very often and I don’t chimp at the lcd after the fact because I took my time taking the photo. I do chimp if it’s an action type shot though to see if I got it lol. This tiny 10 year old camera didn’t draw one single bit of uncomfortableness from anyone I saw or photographed. Perfect camera for the situation and I felt less intimidating too. Really fun way to capture a day!

The differences aren’t massive and the upgrade path is slow going. If my X2 didn’t have a scratched lens I might have kept going with the X2. Very bottom right corner of display is a camera icon. Click it and look up to top of screen. Option are 360 and Single-Lens. Click single lens and scroll options for Me Mode. Also under Single Lens is Video which is action cam. Tutorial videos are broad and hard to follow because they try to cover it all. I use 8-10 effects regularly and skip the rest until I want to try them. At some point I’m going to try and do “an idiots guide to 360 editing” - which is exactly how I do it lol. The single lens mode records an out of camera usable video. 19 by 9 and ready to use with no edit on 360 app. Single lens and Me Mode are regular files. Only the 360 video requires the app. I recommend using those modes to get used to the camera. Just go for a walk in Me Mode and it will be usable in your video editing app. It will 🤯 how it works. It's unobtrusive size is perfect for street-photography. Been using a Kodachrome 64 variation I noted down, which I've been very impressed with. Trouble is I omitted to write down the source, can't remember who it was and so am unable to credit the person who created it, but it is good, imo....It works well in low contrast situations and the other day was nice and bright and sunny, as I said, and so tried some high contrast shots. I found some decent high contrast locations, with strong sun and hard shadows, spot-metered for the highlights (or near to) and got some fairly decent/quite dramatic shots. I'd add in negative ex comp up to -1, for some shots. Also got a couple of nice images using centre-weighted, shooting the outside from within a coffee shop interior...Tons of different ways/approaches to do things = it's all great fun! Going to try out the FXW Kodak Portra 800v2 recipe soon, this time in a bigger city location. I think this looks ideal for a light, bright, airy day, with bags of sunshine, so will give it a run then. Cheers.

I agree the exposure mode can make such a dramatic difference. I love spot point and use it most. Like most SOOC photographers, I once was fully RAW. I became so accustomed to getting the meter in the middle to get all the dynamic range for edit. I never expose down the middle now! The light qualities of the SOOC recipes are so fun to manipulate with light. I’m curious of your thoughts on the new X-T50?

    • @innercityunit2112
      @innercityunit2112 Місяць тому

      @@DanFarrar The X-T50?...good question. First, the X-T30ii. I think is quite an underrated camera. Basically it's the baby brother of the X-T4, with stripped down features, obviously. But, at the end of the day, you are getting identical image output to the X-T4, which until not long back, was one of Fuji's flagship cameras. The fact that the X-T30ii doesn't have dual card slots, that doesn't matter to me, I'm not a professional wedding photographer, or the like, so no big deal. The lack of IBIS, although would be nice, again no deal breaker, as this will mostly be needed for video shooting, and TBH, I don't shoot any video, I'm a stills photographer. I suppose IBIS could come into play in low light/slower shutter speed situations, but the 18-55 Fuji kit has OIS, which is very effective and I'm able to shoot really quite low speeds hand held, very effectively. The thing I would like on the X-T30, is weather sealing, but it's understandable that Fuji would want to keep some distance between it and the X-T4...Oh, and the battery life on the X-T30 is poor. But, a spare couple of batteries and problem solved. Two batteries will easily do me on a days shoot. Moving on to the X-T50. Well, I suppose the two things that jump out, are the 40MP sensor and the 7-stops of IBIS...I'll leave the IBIS aside, as I've covered that....The 40MP is nice, but I think depends on what you want to shoot and what you intend to do with your images. The X-T30's 26MP, is absolutely fine for me and enough for any photographer, really. The 40MP would be of benefit if you were a professional product photographer, or fashion photographer, if you did any serious cropping, or wanted your images to be blown up in size, then yes 40MP is going to help. But again, that's not what I do, so isn't a concern. And you need lenses that are capable of rendering the 40MP. I think the biggest disappointment, as far as I'm concerned, regarding the X-T50, was the decision to not make it weather sealed. If they had done this, and made it weather sealed, they would have had a little all-weather powerhouse on their hands and I think it would be extremely popular. Again, Fuji wanting to keep some distance between it and the X-T5, but I can't help feeling that Fuji has missed an opportunity here, and shot themselves in the foot somewhat...Had they included weather sealing, I mat have found the small form of the X-T50 quite tempting. But as it is, I really have no desire to buy it. It really doesn't offer my photography any big benefits (some small ones as mentioned), so I'll be sticking with the X-T30ii..........The X-T50 does come in at a very reasonable price though, for what you get, it has to be said. At the end of the day Dan, it's all highly subjective. These are just my ideas and preferences, my thoughts, and what suits me and my style of shooting. Horses for courses, right? I think my next camera addition will be a full-frame mirrorless, not sure which yet, but got one or two in mind.

      Nikon is killing it with that 24mpx full frame lineup. I completely get what you’re saying because I’m in the same era with my X-Pro3. No stabe, 26mpx, but perfect in every way because I totally and completely feel at ease using it. It has two card slots so if I forget one..I still have one in the camera. (not often but 3-4 times it saved my bacon lol) and, like you, I have OIS in several lenses. I just assumed at the price point of the X-T50 it would be weather tight…bummer. The thing with the weather seal for me is dust. I still have to swab my sensor but not nearly as often as I did with my X-T20. And, if the lens ain’t sealed you got nothing lol. Right now I have a full spectrum of Fuji’s. The X20 at 12mpx, X-Pro3 at 26 mpx, and the GFX 50S II at 51 mpx. Each body doubles lol. Not that it matters really but they were all three made in Japan and none of them are great at video lol. (X-pro3 is best at video but I seldom use it for that) I use each one evenly and have no plans on changing anytime soon regardless of what Fuji’s latest greatest is. Because of the GFX I have no interest in the 40mp sensor and definitely no interest in upgrading lenses to work with it. My newest video camera purchases (yes, I HAVE to do video lol) OSMO Pocket 3 and Insta360 X4 were made possible by finally trading in some gear I never ever use anymore. Both cameras are working well for me so far and they both have small(ish) file sizes and decent quality. The main thing is I do all editing on a M1 IPad. I am not interested in a desktop, laptop, or whatever to edit my files and I’m hoping to stretch a couple more years from the iPad. Big video files from a jacked up phones or GoPro are miserable to edit with. The Insta360 can have huge files but they never touch down in the iPad before whittling it down a ton. I’m still able to pull out 4K on UA-cam that comes out pretty good most times. 4K does WONDERS for photos on UA-cam. I’m always surprised when a photography channel uploads in 1080 video…because their photos take a big hit in broadcast quality. Massive hit lol. So, all that video mambo jumbo just to share some photos on UA-cam…and maybe make someone’s day a little better or at least get them exited about photography!

I bought quite a few albums based purely on the artwork alone, sometimes knowing nothing about the band/artist, and a total gamble on the music front, lol. But the point is, the 1:1 ratio perfectly frames the art. You're not having to read bottom to top, left to right, it's just there, bang!...and it's something we take for granted really, don't consider too much. But that is a perfect example of how good square format is and can be...Part of what I do, which is connected to my photography, is graphic design, and I do design album (and single) covers, and the artwork for that is obviously square, so I am used to working in that ratio, and it does seem natural to me....However, the vast majority of my photography is in 3:2 ratio, which just feel right/ works for me. I maybe shoot 95% 3:2 and 5% square, something like that. But I just thought it was worth mentioning what a great example album covers are, of square aspect ratio.

      Albums…yes of course! The biggest bummer of CD’s was the lack of album artwork. I spent many hours holding and looking at album artwork. I’m certain I bought a few records BECAUSE of the cool looking album artwork. Funny thing, I don’t shoot 3:2 on any camera I own. X20 = 4:3, X-Pro3 = 16:9, and GFX = 4:3. I sometimes use a plastic Holga lens that I always set to square. I have certainly regularly used 3:2 in the past but when I started youtubing the 3:2 didn’t frame up in the video the way I wanted and I wasn’t interested in adding a frame to show photos on video lol. 3:2 was a standard for me for lots of years but I don’t miss it at this point. It’s all strokes for folks and isn’t it great we have options? 😁. I really appreciate your comments and am flattered you take the time to write out well thought out comments on my page! I always enjoy your feedback! Thank you 🙏
