I did upgrade to the X4. It is better but 2 generations better? No IMO. The main reason I upgraded wasn’t video quality it was the higher shutter option of 60fps in 5.7K. On a sunny day…no one could tell the difference lol
@@DanFarrar thank you I had the X2, sold it off, and did get an X3 but returned it, hearing the X4 was to come to market, Just can not justify $500.00 right now, and the sale is going off very soon for the X3, thanks really enjoyed the vid

I could have edited the audio to match better but left it alone so I could get a true read on 360 audio. The X2 is better at audio than I gave it credit for. The X4 is leaps better at audio than the X2 so that is encouraging. Overall and as-is I would grade it a solid C which is better than I thought. X4 would likely go in the B grade and a B+ with external mics. I can see where this camera could be beneficial for hiking…especially with a long selfie stick lol. The software is the bug-a-boo. Not complicated but it requires a learning curve for sure.

I know camera opinions on the internet are abundant, but ill offer mine here. I struggle with all of these new sub $500ish cameras systems that are marketed to be "A GAME CHANGER!" Pocket3, Insta360 X4, Ace Pro....etc. They can all be fun. However, I keep coming back to using my Sony cameras for photos and videos. I find all the action/pocket cameras/whatever category these fall into to often have overly sharp and/or overly saturated video out of the camera without adding a lot more steps to the process. I don't know, I just want things to look true to life and match my eye. The video suggested after this one is "Insta360 X4 - The Ultimate 8K Pocket Camera". The majority of people don't even have a 4k screen yet and I get that its for cropping in but even in the videos I have seen on it already it doesn't look great as far as quality goes. I think if I had $500 to spend, I would put it towards another lens.
I hear you. This video was simple and easy to capture but the edit was long and tedious. I used the 360 app to export two different points of view from the same video. Same video, two perspectives, on a timeline where I cut and edited between the two views from one take. A different look for me but brutal for my M1 iPad Pro. I can’t say I will try that again and this was a short video lol. I would call it sub 700 dollar cameras. The camera might be below 500 but the accessories required often push it to 700+. It’s all an odd trade off between quality, file size, stabilization, focus (if applicable) and output of resolution. THEN, UA-cam works over the top of your work at upload lol. One thing I refuse to do is purchase a bigger computer to deal with the file sizes of bigger cameras. It’s a perpetual mess of money options with varying results. Frustrating not to have good tools as anything over 1000 will suffer from file size and poor stabilization. What a mess! Every new “action” camera has the same cycle of “game changer” or how it “destroys” the competition. In this case, the X4 is the savior. It is a nice upgrade (spec wise) but that is only half the equation. Editing 360 video is tricky. Yeah, you can jump around and spin upside down and do all sorts of circus tricks with a 360 cam but the subtlety goes out the window when a reviewer edits the footage. The editing is responsible for half (or more) of the output. UA-camrs selling you on a product where (IMO) the editing sucks and gives motion sickness. My effort was to see if a normal(ish) video is possible. It is but the workflow is tedious.
One more thing bud 🙄 my X2 is 4+ years old and two generations behind the X4. Do you see a major difference in quality between my video and those using the X4? The editing is key and Insta360 does very little to make that known to a new buyer. The software is 100% the key to making a 360 work. The software Insta provides is very good and they have made every effort to make it run on any system (even older phones) The software doesn’t crash, gives a good preview and offers a lot of control. Like any editing program, it has a learning curve that the company fails to inform new buyers about. The software does offer a ton of presets for automatic editing if inclined.
Lastly, lol, One crazy finding is what the audio did. Hard to explain but the two identical video clips (same shat, different edit angle) provided different audio depending on the angle. Take a listen 👂 Same footage edited to two different perspectives provided audio matching the angle of view of each. How the heck!
