Mark Martin is one of the very few retired drivers at his age. That on any given race track get behind the wheel and run a competitive top 5 to top 10. Mark Martin is proof you don't have to be a points champion to be considered a champion. Also any man that can drive a car advertising a pill that helps men that have erectile disfunction and do commercials. That's a hell of a man, lol. But seriously, he helped men's health by taking that sponsorship. He's actually a really great humble guy. I hope he's happy with his career and personal life. Hopefully, he's enjoying life after Nascar.

A lot of people say that the Brickyard 400 died because of the 2008 race. That race didn't help things, but I think the downfall of the Brickyard 400 was a slow burnout over the span of time. The race pretty much followed the explosion and downfall of NASCAR as a whole. From the late 2000s to about the late 2010s. Viewership, attendance, and prestige gradually went down.

Mark Martin was my first favorite driver. He is one of the greatest of all time, and he did it by driving clean. Mark Martin never drove like it seems like you have to these days in nascar. Pushing people out of the way, using people up coming off a corner, throwing risky blocks, playing games on the restarts, and all around unsportsmanlike conduct exhibited by many in the current crop of top level drivers. But that’s what you get when you make the rules so tight every car pretty much drives the same.

I remember the 1990 season well. The penalty Mark got for the spacer was ignorance on NASCAR'S part. It was early in the season, but still cost him the championship. Heartbreakers for sure.

I loved Papy games so much. I got in trouble because when the original game came out, they included a Boston phone number in the manual that you could call with your dial up modem to directly connect to the servers and race against other people. Well, this is back in the day where if you lived outside of Boston, this was a long distance number and cost extra based on minutes. I was punished for a long damn time when my parents got the monthly bill with all my long distance calls. I helped do a lot photoshop templates to be able to paint cars, I painted a lot of cars that ended up on various websites, helped with graphics on different projects. It was such a fun time from 03-06. I finally quit when Brian Ring was working on a huge update when iRacing took over the ownership and started C&Ding all of us, killed a lot of our interest in keeping it going and a lot of the leagues I raced in collapsed. I miss that community so much, iRacing is such a crap company. I still have my physical copy of all 1-2003. RIP Matt W

I love to read comments on videos, but now that spelling and grammar have gone by the wayside, I can’t understand what some writers are trying to say. As far as the 8 year old wandering off…I got separated from my guy during the 2023 Indy 500. We were in the patio. In that crush of people, it was impossible to find him, so I went to our seats. He refuses to use a cell phone, which would have been helpful. Anyway, we were walking together (not holding hands, so people cut in front of me, not realizing we’re together) and so I can see how easy it is to get separated from others in one’s group.

Holy shit! Mind blown when you said the location. I worked at the Staples in the Bayfair Mall for parts of almost 3 years when in college ('06-'09). Was constantly all around that area and until now how zero clue about this track. Thanks for the video and info!

Jimmy Johnson ruined nascar for years

I attended all three days of the 1994 San Marino GP. Rubens accident happened right in front of me as I was taking a photo and I caught him mid-tumble. During the break after Roland's accident RAI had a helicopter flying up and down the front straight giving a high level view when it suddenly and unexpectedly zoomed right in to where my friends and I were sitting because of a Gilles Villenuve sign just behind us. Sunday was even worse because we knew that Roland accident was bad because we saw the trauma helicopter land just across the track from us we never had any indications about Senna and only learned about his passing when we got home to my friend's townhouse in Maranello and saw the tv coverage. What a terrible weekend that was!
