One of the worst things previous generations have done to people, and specifically men, is to teach them that showing or sharing emotions (especially being sad/crying) is a bad thing. It's awesome that a trilogy of songs like this has shown people they can do so AND there are thousands who are there for them.

Adam is a master. You might want to add VLAD ULASEVICH from the band Jinjer to your list. Classical trained he basically took up drums for the band. Adds a ton of ghost notes usually and adds jazz flare to the music. Often a minimalist kit and open player. You really have great detail in your reactions.

As a Gen Xer, Dominator has been the "level up" from Dave Lombardo, IMO. I don't like many of Dark Funeral's songs, but this guy is one of the best drummers of my lifetime. You have to wonder what else a guy like Dominator could do if he changed music styles (particularly if asked to play more at slower tempos or just in a death-doom metal band with lots of moderate tempos). Meshuggah really knows how to let those riffs just play out for extended periods. Most bands have some really cool riffs but they only last like 15 seconds. Love that about this band. And there is no one like Meshuggah's live performances with there light shows. Just insane

Drummer gives me overwhelming Matt Halpern vibes. Super loose playing style really adds that extra notch to the groove. Amazing band but II is definitely the highlight all without overpowering the other musicians. Perfect.

You should listen to the album version too or at least a live version that's not just the drums, just to get the feel of how the drumming matches the intensity of the song. I saw these guys live and they're wild!

I don’t think Haake ever plays polyrhythms actually which is why it’s always groovy. It’s just super heavily subdivided (I say just as though it’s easy, it’s of course insanely hard)

The first time I saw Tool play was in 1992 opening for Gwar at the Hollywood Paladium. I believe The Melvins played that night as well. I had never heard of them before that night and everyone of my friends commented on how much they liked Tool that night. I've been a fan since that night and have seen them play many times. It's been an amazing journey and the music never sounds dated or old. The songs and the story they tell are still relevant and poignant to this day. Simply amazing.

You owe no one any apology for your emotions, man. I lost my father about 3.5 years before this album came out. I've listened to it probably literally thousands of times since then, and while the words may not exactly be 100% representative of my mindset, the emotions they evoke are dead on. Very few understand that this music sounds like my mind and heart feel when mourning the loss of my father and others dear to me. The good this is that my father and I left nothing unsaid - he left this world for the next one KNOWING I loved him more than life itself. :)

I've watched all the fast metal drumming videos I can over the years and when I saw this one it was kind of like finding the best one ever.

The song opens with a time signature is 4/4 and the chorus is 4/4, then 13/8 followed by a measure of 5/8, over and over until he gets to his electronic solo which is 33/16. I saw a chart in the music store. The pattern repeats as the song slows down to the pace of the intro. Obviously, there are a ton of triplets and 1/32 notes.
