Awesome reaction man! Regarding the studio version of the song - it is played in a more simple way drum-wise (the drummer for the record was Tomas Asklund), Dominator just pushed it to inhuman level, just like he did with other older songs!
"Ridiculously intense" is one of the better describes for bands like Dark Funeral and 1349 that you can use. Some Black metal bands just push that stuff. But then we have black metal bands that almost go for the opposite. I love that genre for that reason.
Watching this vid was the highlight of my day. Dominator is one of the most interesting drummers to watch, period. He's mostly using fingers when blasting on the snare, but on the toms he's switching to more of a wrist motion to maintain the power due to lesser rebound on the tom heads. He is incredibly consistent with his single and double strokes and by far my favorite death/black metal drummer!
I am so glad to come across this review, I think your expressions sum it up perfectly, that is a man in total awe of sheer drumming skills and appreciate them. So how did you get on with your "black metal" research? Did you find even more insane Black metal bands?
10:17 Nils didn't record the drums for that album, which was released in 1998. Tomas Asklund did and then, 10 years later, he became the drummer for Gorgoroth.
