- For tonight's episode of Machinedrum Mondays, we are reacting to Dan Presland (formerly of Ne Obliviscaris), while he does a drum playthrough to the song, Intra Venus. @DanPresland has astounding versatility and I was hugely impressed by him. One things for certain, two things for sure, I WILL be following Dan much more closely with his projects and his new band Black Lava.

I should have checked Dan out a long time ago!
The melody in the beginning was done on violin btw, the singer who does the clean vocals (Tim) also does the violin
@@nav_osu3748 That is too awesome...
@@DrumlionMusic I've been listening to them for a while now, one of my favorite bands, just waiting on the new album to be released, gonna be a banger for sure
3:45 it's a violin. Their clean singer is also their violinist.
That is too awesome!
Tim Charles 🤘🏻
Dude…this band is one of my top repeat bands. Their compositional prowess is absolutely insane. They even taught some of their music during a lecture at the Sydney Opera House.
Im thoroughly impressed with their musical acumen
@@DrumlionMusic dude, I wish I had gone to see them when I barely had the chance to a couple of years back. I’m admittedly awestruck by the caliber of their musicianship. Have been for a hot second.
I love way Dan writes for the drums, always interesting yet fitting perfectly with the overall structure of the song
Ayyyy glad you got around to checking him out. Fantastic drummer with a lot of interesting and creative fills!
I thoroughly enjoyed his playing!
So dope you did Dan. This band is beautiful. Love the analysis
Thanks so much! I really liked it!
Definitely check out his plague flowers play through. So many cool techniques in that drum part and the sustained 32nd notes on the kick are beast mode you definitely gotta see it
Oh i definitely intend to!
Cool!
Oh man I love Ne Obliviscaris! Such an amazing band!
There music is so damn cool sounding
And the solo section goes back and forth between the violin and the guitar. Just masterful writing.
I’m a bit late this time around because Halloween duties and conversations that lasted all night into the morning kicked my ass for a day 😂
Dan is also a very personable guy as well. Really a down to Earth dude. I hope he comes back to NeO at some point. Huge shoes to fill in that Band🤘🏻
All of his playthroughs are phenominal! And Plague Flowers the Kaleidoscope is part of the teaching curriculum at Sydney Conservatorium of Music, the whole composition is amazing
Really?! Thats incredible!
@@DrumlionMusic you should check it out. really fun song, gets me hype every time i hear it... :EDIT: The live version in Colorado in 2016 has REALLY good quality sound, but his "playthrough" is also just as crisp.
I love that sound of this song. So melodic and so bad ass at the same time. I have never heard of this band. It was so damn good. I love melodic metal music. The drums, singing(clears and growls) the guitar. It was just soooo good man. I am definitely putting them on my list of music to buy. I have a 2.1 channel setup for music and I could just sit in fount of my speaker and become lost in this music. As always good energy to you and the channel man.
I enjoyed the experience too. And ill definitely be listening to more by them. It made me curious about their other songs!
Also I’m watching this again because I love seeing your face and hearing your voice. And your impressions on this god of groove are entertaining and enlightening.
Haha thanks
@@DrumlionMusic also shameless plug but I put up my first short today. I was cooking up a riff with my little ladies approval and I would love to hear what the Lion thinks. It’s not perfect but hey, not bad for a guy who had to reteach themselves how to pick after breaking their wrist multiple times enough to warrant a good stint with the OT specialists 😂
@@sainfalln what's the link to it?

@@DrumlionMusic we were sitting outside and I was playing around with some stuff. This is what the kiddo and I landed on
more dan would be great for sure :^) other drummers I recommend taking a look at would be Alex Rudinger or Baard Kolstad
Sounds like a plan to me! Ill add Baard because I feel pretty sure Alex is already on my list
I was listening to this song earlier today and I decided to come back and see your discovery of this song and Dan. It’s such a damn good song and your take on it is still be far my favorite. I hope you’re well buddy. ❤
Good to see you my friend. How's things with your channel?
@@DrumlionMusic I haven’t done much yet. We’ve been having a revolving door of people and illness since Thanksgiving and I aggravated my bulging disk. Im going to get some ideas set aside for after the New Year.
@@sainfalln take all time you need brother. Your health and family are the priority
God damn I love this man. Saw them in 2017 when they opened for Wintersun in Chicago. Small venue, but I was wondering who these guys were the whole time and was so thankful I saw them live without knowing they were epic as fuck. Greatest surprise lmfao
Thats so awesome you got to experience this
Also, love your shirt!!
As a former Grunt (11C), I love my Grunt Style shirts!
@@DrumlionMusic 11B here!
@@UngluckInc YES! Nice to have a fellow blue cord owner here!
Dan here is a Very good solid drummer. And honestly when u showed he only has 10K Subs i would agree that is insane. He has an extremely different style the way he plays and the elements he chooses and how he chooses them is interesting. I thought this was a Good reaction choice..💀🤘
Thanks man! I was definitely curious what your thoughts were on this video. Social media is so strange. Sometimes the most lackluster people can get these huge followings but people like Dan showcasing immense skill, and talent for a craft he has probably honed for years doesn't have as much as a subscriber base as he deserves.
@@DrumlionMusic i agree man. Its horrible. Dan is a drummer and u can tell by his face how he plays.. That he appreciates Metal music and drums are his best friend.. Drummers like Dan carry on legacy's.. I would like to see more on Dan Presland in the future..
@@ericdravenX00X he will definitely be revisited for sure!
@@DrumlionMusic i'll be tuned in.. I also wanted to mention i have another drummer worthy of your attention for a reaction and review video.. Drummer Christian Bass from one of my favorite bands if Not my favorite.. Just look him up and watch his playthrough at the German Ziljdjian Cymbals Studio and the song Tirpitz.. U wont be disappointed in my opinion he is as solid as they come for a Metal drummer...
@@ericdravenX00X ill definitely add him to my list!
Oh the instrument is a violin! The cleans also are from the violinist who’s name is escaping me in this present moment my apologies.
This is forbidden in more than 30 counties lol
the technique is one thing but i always ask myself how he rememberes all the songs tbh :D bc they are super creative but he always plays them almost note by note the same
The melody line is played on violin
Now i feel dumb for not recognizing that lol
Played by the vocalist that does the clean vocals, at that.
Love this. Can you please check out their other song "And plague flowers the kaleidoscope"?
Definitely doing a reaction to that song!
Dan Presland is in my top 5 he's such a beast. You should react to the song Kepler by Victoria, Matt Garstka is the drummer and Josh de la Victoria is the guitarist. It was my most-played song of 2022 lol.
Great reaction!! subbed and liked!
Thanks so much! And ill definitely note this particular song when i get Matt on the channel!
Great reaction, I got some new insight into this song thanks to you! You should check out the Matt Garstka Red Miso playthrough, I think he's the best drummer alive right now and that song really shows it.
Im glad you got something out of this! Thats awesome! And Matt has been on my radar for awhile. Ive heard some AAL songs and man my brain ended up cooked trying to keep up lol. But ill add Red Miso tp to the top of the list
As a Fan of Neo from back in 2007(3 song EP), it's good to see him move on and grow, as the band(NeO) begins to unfurl(they are very woke). He was the only person in the band who was cool, seeing them on their first 2 tours after waiting 10 years, and even opening for them in Or and Wa, they treated everyone like shit, minus Dan. He's a beast and a bro.
Oh wow, I had no idea about this. very interesting...
Another great video! thanks! 2 of my fav drummers are Matt Greiner from August Burns Red and Aaron Stechauner from Rings of Saturn you should check them out amazing drummers you will love them!
I will definitely be doing that! These sound like good recommendations to me!
