Beating The Heat and Crowd- Father's Day Kayak Bass Fishing- Millerton Lake

Went out VERY EARLY for a couple hours to try and beat the heat and Father's Day crowd on the lake. It was a nice, cool, calm, and relaxing morning. Caught all the fish today on Lipless Crankbait and Top water Popper (Lucky Craft LV 150 in silver shad pattern and SPRO Popper silver belly with blue back). The Bass seamed to bite the popper when I put a lot of action and splash to it. Lipless was a slow retrieve, letting it sink a little.

Took the new boat out at the local pond to break in the engine and of course do some junk fishing. Lacking some electronics but that will be sorted out soon. Needed to feel a couple tugs, so I went to the closest lake I could get to the quickest. Good ol' Millerton Lake. She never disappoints..... well... sometimes she does. Spring is here and fish are chasing again!! Fished the West shores of the Madera side.

Decided to sign up for the CVKF Pine Flat Kayak Bass Fishing tournament, the 1st stop of the CVKF club tournament series. Goal was to learn more about tournament fishing and have fun! Seeing that this was my 2nd ever bass tournament of any kind, I didn't come in expecting to do much. Just do what I know how to do best, fish and have fun! Come check out how we did!!

Went out for a few hrs and decided, why not.... let's do a weight challenge. See how many fish and pounds we can muster up with these SLOOOOWWWWW Late winter, early spring conditions. The fish just aren't quite chasing any fast moving baits yet. Not for me at least. All fish caught this day were caught on drop shot and jig. Come check out how the day ended up!

I Hope this helps some of you who are planning a trip out to Millerton Lake for some fishing or family activities. Lake water levels are very low, probably the lowest I've ever seen it. Only good thing is, there is a lot of beach for family recreation.

For those of you who are planning on taking a trip and wondering what the current water levels are at Millerton Lake. Not sure what the percentage is as far as fullness or emptiness of the lake, but it's very LOW!!

Another good day out on my favorite lake. Thought I got the first cast jinx, but the day turned out great. Enjoy the video. Let me know if you have any questions about bait, tackle, gear, etc. Happy to share any knowledge I might have. It's not a lot, but I may be able to give some advice. :)

Small Swimbaits catch fish!!

Came to the lake wanting to throw top water, and I did... but no love. Might just need more practice at it. I soon realized if I wanted to catch fish, I needed to go to the dynamite bait that worked the week prior.
