well duh realistic people are cool and all but the floppy ragdolls of the source engine (i think it uses the havoc physics engine?) are just way more entertaining

Payday 1 is the best game. PD2 lacked the epic feel. The gameplay became more frantic and bloated and the sense of immersion and high stakes drained away. The slower movement and pace, but faster TTK, created a feeling of higher lethality and stakes. Of needing to positionally fight your way through the heist was lost for an overreliance on stealthing and sheer running and gunning/tanking. The streamlined, basic progression system of PD1 always appealed to me more. Weapon variants are far more interesting and promote variety better than a wildly bloated attachment system most of which no one uses. Such systems are basically gear grind treadmills to push players into playing. PD1's replayability lay in it's sheer fun and tense immersion. You hit the nail on the head with how smart it is to have a small, well-developed cast than a bloated roster than no one cares about (or worse, stunt casting from movies and other IPs). PD1 music was absolutely banging. I still can remember even the menu tunes. And yes, PD1 Chains voice is *the* Chains voice "GET ON YOUR BELLIES". PD3 is a spastic mess that doesn't remotely remind of the first game.

GTA 5 turning into a pure action shooter with more rigid interactions is a huge tragedy imo, I recognize that it was a good move for the commercial success of the game but doesn't have the same replayability imo

I ran this game with ~45 fps on an i3-540, Radeon HD5570, and 4 gigs of RAM way back in 2011. And it wasn't even that great of a hardware. This whole "GTA IV runs bad" myth was probably perpetuated by guys with REALLY shitty PCs. I mean come on, anything lower than what I had is basically a brick with a monitor connected to it. And yes, IV is absolutely better than V. After all this time. Always.

The motorcycle driving in this game is absolutely amazing and your example did nothing besides prove that you’re bad at it and don’t understand how to turn on one in this game. Lot of nuances not being understood by just about everybody.

genuienly one of the most memorable moments in my almost 1500 hours combined in all 3 games that I'll never forget is the moment on the diamond heist if the codes fail and the crew starts brainstorming ideas on what to do next. those 5 little voice lines add soooo much more to the atmosphere compared to some generic one liners (like in payday 2) or nothing at all (like in payday 3)

Payday 2 has more focus on customization, very simple. you wanna fuck around? Have fun! wanna be serious? Have fun!

gta4 is more realistic

I have no doubt GTA 4 Physics will be superior to GTA 6.

I work in the game industry now, and it’s so depressing. The only places worth working would be with small dev teams that still have passion for the things they’re making. Back then, it felt like there was so much hype and pride behind the releases, and now it’s all about optimizing how long they can milk money out of you. It’s unfortunate, the 2000s was the best generation for gaming. Also, nothing hits more than the PS2 system startup and menu.

There is no gta 5 vs gta 4 comparison video (and I know this is video isn’t exactly that but it does bring the topic up) where the general and almost unanimous consensus among commenters is that 4 is the better game gameplay wise. GTA5 is missing SO MANY of the technological advancements that made GTA4 the greatest game to ever come out at its time of release. We have waiting long enough for rockstar to bring us the next installment, knowing that they know they took our favorite parts of the last game out and kept us waiting for 10 years to see if we will get any of that euphoria fun back. There are a lot of fans that see the next GTA as a make or break for Rockstar, me included, but it wouldn’t be this way if they didn’t greedily milk GTA5 for literally 10 years when their previous game release schedule was every 3-4 years tops

After years of playing neither, I have very recently re-installed both GTA IV & V. I had considered GTA IV my favourite game in the series before. Now, after playing the two modern ones back to back, I have to say... It's not even close. While Gta V is an awesome game and IV is of course dated in many ways, it's simply more fun to play, imo. To me, a LOT more fun, actually. I hate V's police mechanics and mourn the loss of more realistic driving mechanics and Euphoria integration. I really hope GTA VI dares to be a bit more realistic and doesn't make every single car have Formula 1 grip levels, for example. Currently looking for all the mods I need to make GTA V more enjoyable for me.

The bikes are nowhere near as bad as people think, they are actually a lot of fun in this game. High FPS breaks their physics unfortunately, so most people running the game on modern systems run into problems & think the game was always like that. There are community patches that fix the many issues the game has on modern hardware.

Intro is a lie. The game IS peak.

One of the reasons the Euphoria Physics in particular (the ragdolls) cannot be the cause of GTA IV's poor performance is due to the fact that there can be no ragdolls simulated but the game will still run like a$$. GTA IV or any Rockstar Game will only activate the Euphoria physics when something is ragdolling, otherwise it uses regular animations like any other game. GTA IV was just a poor PC port and nothing else.
