    Thank you so much for the videos, this ia great help. I do have a question, if I do have two turnouts that I want to work in conjunction (when I activate one, the other should move aswell), can I do that with the m83 decoder? Maybe connecting the two turnouts to the same position? Is that possible? Or my only option is to fit both turnouts with digital decoders and setting both on the same address? Thank you in advance,

    Thank you for your detailed videos! I tried programming the "white" m84 (60841) to take 8 different addresses, but unfortunately it did not work. It may have worked on your example because you were using a 60842, and somehow its improved architecture allows the separation of the switches (Schaltgruppe = 0).

    • @ModelTrainFun
      @ModelTrainFun 3 дні тому

      Hi Armando, I am glad you like the video! The M84 unfortunately does not support the slow fading. The M84 is essentially a relay and cannot do this. You can however use the M83 for lights and I believe it supports it. Unfortunately, I have not gotten around to making a video on how to do lights with the M83. You can email me and I can try to help over email (see www.youtube.com/@ModelTrainFun/about). Enjoy ;-) Bo

    Hey, thank you so much for the videos, i have learned so much from you! I wanted to ask, do you know if in order to connect a booster into the CS3 alongside the L88, do i need a terminal? or i can connect them both to the CS3? Thank you again for all the amazing videos that you create for us!

    • @ModelTrainFun
      @ModelTrainFun 3 дні тому

      Hi, I am glad you like the videos! The booster and the L88 are connected through the 7-pin connection on the back of the Central Station 3 (CS3). If you have a CS3+ you have one 7-pin connector on the back. If you have the CS3 you have two 7-pin connectors. Hence, if you have the CS3 I believe you should be able to connect both without the terminal while the CS3 you need it. Hope this helps. Enjoy ;-) Bo

    There seems to a broad devotion to cars that can roll easily. But cars that roll easily have one drawback. If you do a lot of switching/shunting or have a switching puzzle, then cars that roll easy are a nuisance. When you uncouple a car og place it somwhere on the track, you do not want it to roll! For the same reason I prefer the old Märklin freight cars for switching. They don't roll. And their old RELEX couplings are better for uncoupling than newer couplings.

    • @ModelTrainFun
      @ModelTrainFun 3 дні тому

      Hi Søren, never thought about this! You are right - sometimes cars can roll too easy. Mostly my concern is being able to pull the cars up a slope where easy rolling is important. However, in a switching/shunting situation I do agree. Must admit I prefer the newer style couplings. But I guess they are easy to replace. I seem to recall you can buy larger packs of the older ones if you need it. Thanks for sharing your thoughts! Enjoy ;-) Bo

    • @ModelTrainFun
      @ModelTrainFun 13 днів тому

      Hi Yamon, Glad you liked the video. The M84 is powered by the track power. The M84 is just a relay, which means you need to get a power supply that matches the lights you control. This can be AC or DC depending on your lights. Typically, you find the lights in 12-20v from various model manufactors (some LEDs even lower). Max load per M84 group is 5 amp. Consider using DC lights if you want to make videos as this will create a flicker-free light on the video. Hope this helps! Enjoy ;-) Bo

    After my grandpa died I stopped with my model train.. Now I have picked it up again. I am still using the F80 controller and the interface. I have been experimenting with Itrain (used to use koploper). Itrain also controls the braking of trains.. What is the advantage using brake modules instead of computer application?

    • @ModelTrainFun
      @ModelTrainFun 13 днів тому

      Hi Hinerakatauri, welcome back to the hobby! If you want to control the entire layout by computer the best way is to have the software control all train motions. Hence, using itrain you do not need the braking module. The braking module is advantageous if you are using manual control (forget to brake at signal) - or want a simple way to automate your layout without a computer. Enjoy ;-)

      Hi michlus, The light in the cars is controlled by the cab control car: www.maerklin.de/en/products/details/article/43488. Hence you can use the cars without the locomotive. The power (center rail / B) is transferred through the current-conducting couplers. In this way the cab control car can turn on/off the light in the other cars. If you do not wish to buy the cab control car you could add a slider to one of the other cars and wire it to the current-conducting couplers. Did this help? Enjoy ;-) Bo

    • @ModelTrainFun
      @ModelTrainFun 13 днів тому

      Hi Tony, You can turn off the M4 on the ESU decoder to prevent it from loading as M4 (old MFX). You can find the manual for your ESU decoder here: www.esu.eu/en/downloads/instruction-manuals/digital-decoders. As an example, on page 39 of the LokSound V4.0 manual you can see that you can see that you can turn off M4 in CV47 by disabling bit 1 (subtract 2). You can do this in the following by: 1. Turn off MFX in CS3 1a. Go to System->System->CS3-> Track protocol 1b. Turn off mfx 2. Create the locomotive as DCC 2a. Pull up bottom tab 2b. Select "Add locomotive" 2c. Use DCC and address 3 2d. Hit ok 3. Test locomotive 3a. Put locomotive on track 3b. Turn light on/off to see it is connected 4. Put locomotive on programming track 4a. ensure track is very clean 5. Change CV47 to exclude mfx (-2) 5a. Pull up bottom tab 5b. Select "Edit Locomotive" 5c. select the locomotive you added 5d. Go to tab "Configuration" 5e. Select burger (3 lines)->Insert CV 5f. Enter 47 as CV 5g. should now read the CV - if not use Burger->Readout decoder 5h. Value in CV47 is default 15 5i. To turn off mfx enter value 13 or subtract 2 from value shown. I succeeded in doing this with my ESU V60 AiX. Had lots of trouble as my track was not clean. If you get read out error, then ensure track, wheels and locomotive is clean - you must have excellent power pickup to perform the programming. Hope this helps! Enjoy ;-) Bo

      Hi Schmidey, Mine works great. Remember to clean both track and power pick up on locomotive (wheels and slider). Stuttering can also be because it has not been driven for a while. Try a couple of rounds at high speed and/or oil the locomotive. Track cleaning? see here: ua-cam.com/video/Yke1Akvh0Ds/v-deo.html Locomotive maintenance? see here: ua-cam.com/video/41Cts-OvNHs/v-deo.html Let me know if this helps! Enjoy ;-) Bo

      @@ModelTrainFun Hey, thanks for your large reply. I already switched the power pick up part and cleaned the train and tracks multiple times, kinda running out of ideas. It's also not a big track so it shouldn't be an energy problem. I can't even get the train through the loop on highspeed, there are too many places where it just stops. Right now I am saving money to get another train, to see if the train is the problem or the tracks or both you know, but will prob take a few months. I will respond back to you once I got oine :)

      Hi Michael, yes - unfortunately. Using brake modules is expensive and complex. Consider using events in your CS3 or software to control your trains instead. Easier, simpler and less costly. • @ModelTrainFun
      @ModelTrainFun Місяць тому

      Hi, Glad you liked the video. The Roco R2 is 358mm radius which is equivalent to the Märklin R1 360mm radius. Hence, Roco locomotives supporting R2 can be used on Märklin R1 C-track. Also look at the Roco website to see minimal radius for each locomotive (www.roco.cc/ren). You can also see it in this video: ua-cam.com/video/nkePdjQNzws/v-deo.html. Enjoy ;-) Bo

    You talk about digital signals, ofcourse from märklin. I was wondering whether it's possibile to connect microscale SBB signals to the CS3. Is there anything that I need extra?

    • @ModelTrainFun
      @ModelTrainFun Місяць тому

      Hi, Are you talking about these signals? www.microscale.ch/_downloads/Flyer_101.pdf As I read it they do not come with a decoder - however it seems they recommend www.qdecoder.ch Looking at these decoders e.g. www.qdecoder.ch/lichtsignal-decoder-?c=7 it seems they support both MM and DCC. This means you can control them from the Central Station Station 3 (CS3). However, some of these signals look very complex and have many aspects. The CS3 supports 2, 3 and 4 aspect signals with direct icons. You can also use more complex signals but it might be more cumbersome. Generally, I understand if you want complex signalling then you need to go beyond standard controllers and use software automation that better can handle complex signalling. Hence, I foresee you want to use an automation software together with the CS3 to fully utilize the signals. I would ask around to see what other people do with these specific signals. If you can find good advice it is best for complex signalling. In short: It can be done, but can be complicated. I hope this helps! Enjoy ;-) Bo

    Can I couble more than one mark light modules to a brake modull?

    • @ModelTrainFun
      @ModelTrainFun Місяць тому

      Hi Jari, No sure what you are asking? Are you asking if you can prevent trains from the other direction to brake at the brake section as the signal is not for them? If so, I could imagine you could accomplish this using an M84 and shift the power on the braking sections between being controlled by the brake module or normal track power. However, the disadvantage with this is that you need to use 3 double outputs from the M84 and could be come an expensive solution... Hope this helps? Enjoy ;-) Bo

      Hi Janne, In the manual on page 3 you can see the back of the Central Station 3: streaming.maerklin.de/public-media/anleitungen/CS3_Manual_EN_final-lo.pdf You can plug in a mouse in the "USB Connections and for Data Exchange" USB connections. A wireless mouse or a keyboard with a USB plug or also works. This should work for standard mice and keyboards. If you have a very advanced one you may have some difficulty, but as I understand it - pretty much any USB mouse and/or keyboard will work. Hope this helps! Enjoy ;-) Bo
