    You have given yourself quite a puzzle to sort out. Great walk-through of all the developments and the pros and cons as you decide on how to build that shadow station and the mountain access. I commend you for diligence and expertise!

      Hi Anthony, thanks - it will be interesting to see how the build will work out. This puzzle will be difficult to put together. Wis I have the same space as you have in the cellar. Enjoy ;-)

    Very enthusiastic project Bo. Looking forward to see the end result. It makes my 5 feet by 2.5 feet Minitrix layout look silly.

      Hi Geoff, thanks - looking forward to start building it. How is the progress for you with your Minitrix layout? Enjoy ;-)

    Really interesting project and design! I’m amazed all the tracks you were able to squeeze onto your layout. What is your grade level? More than 4% will get problematic and many non-Märklin brands will have problems. From my experience, you’ll need at least 15cm of clearance for a shadow station so that you can reach, otherwise all the trains will need to be cleared out.
    But, figuring this out and pushing the limits is half the fun!
    Enjoy!
    Axel

      Thanks Axel, this will be an interesting build and I agree that figuring it out and pushing limits is half the fun.
      The incline in the Mountain is currently 3.6% going up (R2) and 4.3% going down (R1). I think I can squeeze it a little when I build it, but I have to see it physically. I suspect I can get it down to 3% going up. What grades do you have on your layout and what is your experience?
      I do agree that the height in the shadow station is not as much as I would have liked to see. However, with the current design I might be stuck with it... Let's see...
      Thanks for your valuable input - enjoy ;-)

      @@ModelTrainFun if you can, avoid R1 on an incline - is there a chance you can use R2+3? Like I wrote, Märklin locos will be ok on 4%, in a tight curve it is obviously worse. On my layout, I limited the grades to 3.5%. Feel free to send me some pics as you go along…
      Viel Glück! 👍

      @@AxelH1to87 Unfortunately, I cannot avoid using R1 for trains going down - however, for all trains going up it will be R2 or R3. Thanks!

    Hi, Nice video and topics You discuss. Just subscribed to Your channel. Where did You het the pilars for the helix and inclines ?

    • @ModelTrainFun
      @ModelTrainFun  Рік тому

      Hi Stefaan, welcome to the channel and I hope you will enjoy the videos. The helix and inclines are actually built in Lego. As I built many temporary layouts the Lego is perfect for this - although Lego is not the cheapest material... I have used them to make bridges on my temporary layout. You can see here what I did: ua-cam.com/video/yt_NsWPe5Tc/v-deo.html Enjoy ;-)

      @ModelTrainFun  Рік тому

      Hi b, it will be building them in wood. However, for temporary layouts which I have been making in the past - I used Lego. You can see here what I did: ua-cam.com/video/yt_NsWPe5Tc/v-deo.html Enjoy ;-)

    you can use a mirror towards the mountain to fill in more tracks, see possibly märklinofsveden's shadow railway station

    • @ModelTrainFun
      @ModelTrainFun  Рік тому

      Hi Søren - great idea to use a mirror to extend the station! I need to think a little about this as the station is supposed to be viewed from the side where the station is cut. However, for viewing from the other side of at the end this would be very interesting. Perhaps a removable mirror would be the solution? Enjoy ;-)

    what program do you use to build the layout on the computer?

      Hi, I use SCARM www.scarm.info - look around there are many different programs. I use this one as it is not too expensive and relatively easy to use. However, happy to hear if you find other interesting ones. Enjoy ;-)

    It looks to be a complicated plan for such a small area. You would be better going to N Gauge rather than using HO

    • @ModelTrainFun
      @ModelTrainFun  Рік тому +1

      Hi Kev, I agree that with the ambition of having long trains on a small area N-Scale would have been a better choice. However, I have a lot of H0 rolling stock that I would like to exercise... Enjoy ;-)
