C6: Moving From 1 to 4 (Diminished to Min7)
Переглядів 11 тис.Рік тому
In this complete lesson from C6 Toolbox, Paul shows several ideas for playing from a 1 to a 4 chord (Diminished to Min7). Moving from the 1 to the 4 chord is the same as moving from a 2 to a 5, and a 3 to a 6. This approach gets you thinking about chord progressions as moves from point A to point B. Think more about the distance between the chords, not their names and you can simplify navigatin...

Soooo gooood!
Paul PLEASE tell me what Volume Pedal do you use? Thanks Brother! Jeff Mercer
no clue how I missed part 2... thanks for bringing us along.
This video has helped me in a lot of ways because after six years away from the steel guitar, I decided to start playing it again, and because of cerebral palsy in my left hand, I wondered what size bar would work for me. I decided to change from stainless steel to polymer because with cerebral palsy in my left hand, the stainless steel bar would slide around, so I'm now using a polymer bar , and I find that the polymer bar works best for me. Paul Franklin is one of my musical heroes and this video is very inspiring!
You could replace the organ at all the Pro Baseball games!😂
I have this pedal. What makes it so versatile is the wet - dry mix. All 9 settings are very usable.
Loving these demos! Has Paul tried the SYNTH9 pedal? Very curious to hear how it sounds with pedal steel.
I would like to hear that as well! Several years ago I was beta testing a pitch-to-synth converter and my friend brought his pedal steel over and we hooked it up to my Minimoog. Just as weird sounding as you might imagine! I think a video clip is somewhere either here or instagram.

3:07 Oh my god
Awesome and who would have thought that the Mel 9 could be triggered by a steel guitar?!
Great demo and lovely playing, sir! 👌😎👍 I know this probably just comes down to semantics, but my understanding of why the Mel9, and other similar pedals from Electro Harmonix, "tracks" so well is because it doesn't have to track pitch at all? I believe the magic is done with a combination of series and parallel processing done on the input signal like EQs, resonators, harmonizers, delays, wave shapers, etc. etc. so there is no delay or flakiness with a processor trying to detect and track pitch to then synthesize new sounds. That's why chords are handled so well?
Very nice. Sir!
Anybody knows who is the brand of this volume pedal ,I want it ! ;))) or some similar
It's a Franklin pedal.
The flutes remind me of some old movie but I can't think of which one.
The wizard of oz
Thank you!
I have the bass9 and key9. I play guitar and the 9 series are really cool. What you're doing is awesome. I guess I'll like and subscribe. Thanks. 😎🤓
Wow C-6 is so beautiful; natural for jazz
Way more versatile than a real melotron.
Paul… what kind of Volume Pedal are you using? Is it a Franklin maybe one your poppa made?
Yes, it is a Franklin pedal.
I ain't taking lessons, but I sure love Ralph Mooney, AND Paul Franklin. R. I. P. Ralph Mooney Waylon 🎸🇨🇱Jennings Wynn Stewart Buck🎸🇨🇱Owens Merle🎸🎻Haggard
We are so blessed to have this. The history, the technique, ......awesome!
I teared up and get goosebumps down my arms when I hear this
Consider this: the faster you play, the less you say.
Pay it forward.. i remember when you played with Phil Baugh at the Hall of Fame ..fun times for sure.
This is the greatest conversation that I have ever listen too. It’s so from the heart it make feel you are their with them
He is a great player and a good person
Lloyd Green is the greatest pedal steel guitar player in the world 🌍 even Paul Franklin I just Lloyd Green 💚 would have made a DVD set on everything he knows on the pedal steel guitar what a treasure that would be even Paul Franklin what a treasure that would be a Christmas gift for both of them 2 legend pedal steel incredible guys we love them both
Tritone substitutions for the 6major and dominate.
Loyd talkin the early yrs as he carved his niche. The background required to accomplish just a bit of this seems overwhelming to a dabbler. But I'll keep at it and try not to remain intimidated.
Wonderful and fulfilling. I started a topic in a Facebook pedal steel group about the forgotten instrument. It’s so true Paul and Loyd, who’s going to fill your shoes. Being a pedal steel player for almost forty years I’m concerned. There’s know room in today’s country music for this beautiful instrument or machine as the late great Jeff Newman called it. Yes! Keep these interviews going. Very inspirational. Thank you.
Sweet riff.. great tone
This is alchemy! Turning steel into gold!
I’d sure like to see if that red light is shining on that twin and see if he’s running his guitar through it.
He was. That's the studio's in-house amp.
I've been doing a whole tone. Like your describing here for about 30 years.. It was really cool to see you play It.. Not knowing that you played it like that.. I've got a couple different ways to do it.. This is a fun little video I'm surprised I missed it
Wonderful stuff. I miss playing steel so much but I’ll be back in the saddle as soon as I’m able to. This album was just amazing. I fell in love from the first intro, the first note Paul played. Yeah I never knew he did sweet memories at all.
WHAT HAPPENED TO YOU I AM NOT ABLE NOW EITHER NEPHROPATHY IN HANDS HAVE TROUBLE WITH PICKSBSTAYING ON MY HANDS AND BAR CONTROL BUT I KEEP HAGI G IN THEFE GOOD LUCK KEEPON PICKING
Hi Paul, great show! Just discovered it, - had the pleasure of seeing you playing in Manchester, England with M Knoffler, Steve Phillips etc and The Nottingham HillBillies tour - great stuff! Thanks, Gus a new sub from England.
This is why Paul Franklin is one of my all time favorite steel players. He also does this fall away thing that reminds me of something John Hughey would do. Just incredible!
what vocoder is russ using
🤩
Is there an actual course where he teaches nonpedal C6? That would be awesome!
I'm sure I'm missing something. But shouldn't the tab at 1:49 be 8s instead of 10s for it to be a C chord?
‘’Meant to be shared”…..says a lot about the man beyond his musical genius.
Just listened to Simple Dream album and had to listen to Blue Bayou multiple times just for the pedal steel solo!
Two absolute legends generously sharing some of their vast knowledge of various techniques on the steel. They both seem like genuinely warm and friendly guys just having some fun! How I miss my old Sho- Bud Pro1.
Brilliant! Paul’s knowledge of pedal steel guitar is still unmatched ! Beautiful! Bravo sir!
Two of the absolute masters of the steel guitar and it doesn't feel like false modesty in the least. At the top of their game and as humble as can be. I'm so glad Paul has done this rare interview with Lloyd Green.
3:44 That thumbs-up from Russ Pahl.
Amazing!
Helpful and encouraging.
It sure was great to hear Lloyd's take on a lot of things. Two absolute legends ,with a rather abrupt ending to the interview, however, cool. Both guys are such great examples of creativity and humility combined.
