Amen Paul! Like Lloyd told the steel guitar forum, it's not about how many notes one can play in a short amount of time, it's about playing coherently, in tune, in time with feeling that moves the listener. The ones that can play the slowest and prettiest are usually the ones that can play the fastest and cleanest but like Paul said, slow music allows for much more expression. Good important video here!
I got to see Paul with the Time Jumpers. What a treat. Can't say enough good about that show. Talent all across the stage, perfect band volume, clearity, tone professionalism, real music. If I lived in Nashville, it would be hard to not go see this band each week.

I have an undiscovered country singer friend who doesn’t like fast steel licks and always say he wants those “slow chords”
Consider this: the faster you play, the less you say.
I get where he is going with it, but the reality is you have to be able to do both. I’m able to play fast and I learned the technique through years of playing. because of this I was able to impress the band leader and keep a house gig for 10 years. When reality I was fighting for my space to not get replaced by another guitar or fiddle player.
