    Jurassic Park was the first real novel I ever read when I was in junior high. Before that, it was kids novellas like Goosebumps. I've read Jurassic Park and The Lost World, probably five times each. The only book I've read more times is The Time Machine by H.G. Wells.

    Hey just some constructive criticism, but a lot of people don't want to know almost all the main characters as deeply as you outline them before starting a book. Lots of the info In this video I would consider spoiler

    The best Pratchett book [Discworld or other] is a very much contentious issue. My favourite is [probably] 'Reaper Man' as it really 'spoke to me' so to put it when I first read it on release. I went to the 1997 Clarecraft Discworld event that was 'Reaper Man' themed too. At the event I joined a loose group of fellow fans and we, inevitably it seems, had a friendly heated debate about Disworld and the best book. I'm with one of the others in the group who said his favourite Pratchett book is "The next one!".

    I usually don't even know who published the book until I'm done reading and ready to talk about it. It's not something which influences my reading choices. ----- There seems to be a current trend towards recording reading vlogs instead of wrap-ups and reviews. I'm not a fan. I do enjoy tags, though.

    Your criticisms of the books meandering and making no sense are valid. They meander because George is writing two different stories at the same time: the story of the characters in the books, and the song of ice and fire that controls the characters and the roles they play in the song. All the books, but the later books in particular, are a LOT more fun once you're clued into the roles each character plays in the song and at what time, and things that didn't make sense suddenly make a lot of sense. I fully expect Winds of Winter to be wild as far as a literal read of the characters in the page goes. Readers who don't see the symbology of the books will think it's a roller coaster. But readers who have started to look at it from the perspective of a song will have a great time.

    I also went crazy with first 3 books or so and then started wondering where this is heading where plot kept spreading and characters getting killed.. I mean, it became like when u get really invested in a sub-plot or character, it gets killed or goes haywire.. and 4th one I guess which had all boring characters islands and all described, it felt it was ghost written.. It was meandering wildly and I left halfway cursing myself for investing so much, that far... I was hoping for something at a different level like LOTR, the book (which gives goosebumps even if u read it 4/5/6 times) . When the book series had no future anymore, it didnt take much to lose interest in the tv series as u know it will go nowhere. So it did happen I guess later in the finale which I heard was pretty bad.

    I really agree with you, the more I re-read these books the less I like them! ADWD feels like it's somehow more improvised, pointless, repetitive and boring, and with even more gross scenes just for shock value. I still want to read TWOW just because I'm curious where it will take us but I know it won't be good and I know GRRM isn't delivering the last book ever. I've personally taken more into the story of Fire and Blood, find it all way more interesting than the entirety of ASOIAF main series because it's more streamlined and not flying all over the place! It really shows that George had his grand idea for a 3-book series and thats what it should have stayed as.

    I think the thing that annoys me most with booktube is people doing absolutely MASSIVE book hauls and then couple months later going a massive UNHAUL with a bunch of the unread books they buy… I mean I understand getting rid of unread books that are DNFed but why buy a book only to get rid of it later? Just seems like a waste.

Loved Simmons' writing, his plotting and character development. Like you I was thoroughly invested after the priest's story. Can't wait to read the sequels.

    I had read the book five times when the movie came out, and I absolutely hated the movie at first because it contains only about 5 percent of what was in the book. A few years later I had seen the movie enough times to make peace with it, but it bothered me that it was like a comic-book version of the book. I especially loved the section of the book where Rick Deckard ends up working for a month at another police-station that he later figures out is FAKE, that all of the police at the station are Androids. I also loved the crazy religion of Mercerisim, where you can cleanse your soul by watching this messiah get pelted with rocks as he climbs a mountain. ( I kept thinking of Tammy Faye Baker and her husband that were milking religion to make as much money as they could, in real life. )

    I finished "Fall of Hyperion" today. Yes, it is a heavy read. I was coming and going with this book for a few years, getting sidetracked with other books along the way. At the end though, with Brawne waving goodbye with tears in her eyes and knowing that she'll never see her friends again, it really hit my emotions as I thought of all the farewells I've had in my life, and other proper farewells I wish I'd had... including my own mother who died just a few weeks after I moved my family to Japan 12 years ago.

    I really want to love this series. The first book was great. I was fully vested in Rachel’s story as I listened (audiobook). The second book ended up being background noise for most of the story. I just wanted to know how it ended and what happened to Rachel. I don’t really understand how her dad is supposed to raise her again. If he was 25ish when she was born, he was 51 when she started aging backwards and 77 when she was given to the Shrike. If he raises her again he will be over 100. Maybe he will be able to live longer like people in the Old Testament, but they didn’t really explain it. I needed more.

    This video just came up in my recommends so I thought I would comment. I don't usually dwell on negative things on my channel, but three of the things that are my pet peeves on booktube and youtube are things that I noticed in this video! LOL! I will probably never say these things on my channel, but since you brought up the topic I feel like this is a safe space to get this off my chest. This is in no way meant to be personal! Afterall I realize that you didn't do any of these things to be offensive, but here goes: 1. Large unnecessary microphones 2. A UA-camr calling their channel "the" channel" as if it's the only one. 3. Patreon on Booktube As far as your pet peeves go, I get it. I've participated in reading sprints, but don't like to host them. I've done tags, but rarely do them or watch them. I just don't have the time. Have a wonderful day and much success to your channel (or should I have said "the" channel)! Ha!

    Bro needs to read the book again. There are so many themes and messages that you completely missed. The real and electric animals play an important role in the overall theme of the book. It's in the Title! Think about the title and how it relates to the story!

  • @silvia_leev
    @silvia_leev 4 місяці тому

    i liked the book more than the movie. i like the movie but overall has many intentional plot holes, which i dislike. i read it in italian and i found it very entertaining, more than the movie, who left me lost for most part. well, i usually tend to like more the original works/books rather then the movies, but that's me ofc. "Also known as Bladerunner" nope, also known as Do Androids Dream of Eletric Sheep? and that's it. didn't like the adding of that word/role, in the movie. like the fact they changed the timeline. imo, you read the book expecting the movie and the emotions it gave to you, like, idk what did you expect. aaand you missed the point of the animals. we are talking about mass animal extinction and after a war. how many things nowadays are status symbols that once were common? a lot. which, you know, makes sense. ofc he's a jerk! he's a bounty hunter, not a charity foundation. the delivery is very similar to noir books and movies, and you know that people can be bad, right? i don't like when ppl are "boo-hoo he's/she's bad, let's cancel them". and it's set in a dystopian universe where everything is covered with dust. also, he cheats on Iran, his wife, but who cares tbh. it's fiction and you acting like Rick was a real person made me loudly laugh. these days people cannot separate fiction from reality and that's plain sad. "the movie is better than the book" are you kidding me? if it wasn't for the book, your beloved movie wouldn't exist. and the whole dialing emotions, again, are you aware it's a dystopian book? the religion topic, oh, it's so contemporary since in the USA y'all are OBSESSED with religion/Christianity, so, in desperate situations people can be devoted to a certain religion, since it gives hope and faith, however, the book condems extremism.

    I know you said you don't have the capacity to read self-published authors, and I totally get that. There are so many great books to read (especially ones you've already paid for!), so your time is limited. With that said, the book that I've written (and self-published...don't hurt me!), most people say they finish in a day...seriously, that's what I hear all of the time. At 80,000 words, that's pretty astonishing, but apparently the common phrase to describe it is "page-turner". If you like speculative fiction/sci-fi with elements of time travel, ruthless billionaires,, mind bending inventions, and a surprise ending that will leave you stunned, then take a look at "The Ouroboros: Time Cures All Ills". I tell people that if they don't like the Prologue (only 1.5 pages and free with Amazon's "sneak peak"), then skip the rest of the book and save your $.99. However, most people are hooked and intrigued by just the first few paragraphs, and read straight into the night. I think you will too, and appreciate that you've even read THIS FAR. Please check it out, and if you aren't gob-smacked by the ending, I'll Venmo you back your $.99 :) Thank you and happy reading!
