No Mort???? Death is the most wonderful character and while I love The Watch stories and Going Postal is a great book, the books where Death gets a big role are my favourites and Mort is just so lovely to read. Where else will you learn such scientific/physical gems such as dark being faster than light with the evidence being that darkness is always there before light arrives??
I have never been able to finish the Sheperds Crown. I just get a few chapters in. it means the end of these books, which I started with at 17. My most personal book love
Back to the future meets Les Mis. Love it. It’s definitely in my top 5. I’m looking forward to finishing the series so I can do a massive Discworld Tier list
" guards, guards is da literary equivalent of the naked gun movie " yah it is. The part where vimes and he's crew where shocked sober, no coffee, no water on the face, just pure shock realization that they accidently stumbled into the ghetto part of ankh morpork. Just the thought of being der was enough to turn them all sober just like🫰dat, will always be one of the funniest scenes in any discworld books 4 me
This will probably change as I keep going, but right now my favorite is Soul Music in the Death sub series. As a musician, I really connected with the characters who formed Music With Rocks In! I loved the music jokes, and Death continued to be a fantastic character to follow!
Josh, as far as I can see you have a wonderfully varied collection of knowledge and with everything I know about Discworld, I'm *CERTAIN* you will love them.
It is so hard to choose a favorite because I really enjpy them all but if I had to choose one that would be Thud! It was the first one I read. My coworker left it laying around and I had nothing rlse to do during lunch one day and picked it up and my life changed. I then read the whole Night Watch series going back to Guards! Guards! but Thud! started my journey and so Inlove it the most. Other books that come to mind as favorites are The Wee Free Men because the Nac Mac Feegle crack me up. Monstrous Regiment because of all the strong women characters. Witches Abroad because it is one of funniest. Going Postal and Small Gods. But it is almost impossible to seoarat them into individual books when it is the whole world you love. They are my comfort books. The books I go to when I'm feeling down or when I don't know what else to read. The only books I read, and re-read, as many times as my heart needs.
Love Discworld! ❤ So interesting to see what ones were chosen as favourites. I'm slowly working my way through them all, at the rate I'm going I will be able to tell you my favourite in a couple of years 😂
Guard's Guards is the book you love if you grew up hearing how great LotR was but always found it was far too dense for you. Guards Guards is the book you will love if you roll your eyes at every poor man's knock-off Tolkien wannabe. Guards Guards is the book you will love if you are tired of all the repeated overused fantasy tropes! And of course, Guards Guards is my favorite Disc World book and I love it!
I am more of a SF guy . And a disc on the back of elephant ?? . Its not science . The disc is science....but what does the elephant stand on ???. And please dont say .. " its elephants all the way down " 😂🤣 But i am willing to be educated where do i start . Convince me ye true believers. 🙄🤔
This may sound out of left field, but if the science is what's holding you back, maybe give The Science of Discworld (the first one) a go. You get a standard Discworld chapter, written by Terry, focusing on the Wizards of Unseen University. A magical accident has created a new universe that they begin to study - Roundworld. Then you get a chapter by Terry's co-authors, who in an accessible way, explain *our* science as the Wizards begin to understand it. Not only will you get the humour and intelligence of Terry, you'll see how self-aware his writing is in regard to the Disc's absurdity. It's great.
@@derrisreaditbefore I was just kidding around a bit . But i have seen a copy of that book . I will give it a read . I do enjoy my SF and fantasy with humor . I will get into it . Can i read any book to start .??? .Thanks for the reply and info .
@@sylvanyoung you can ABSOLUTELY start with any book (*except The Shepherd's Crown, which must be last), I usually recommend The Hogfather (if it's anywhere near Christmas), Going Postal, or Guards! Guards! for a reader completely new to the Disc, as they're all Sir Terry at his best - and from there, you can jump around as you find copies in libraries or op-shops, or pick a sub-series, or go by publishing (the first few are much weaker, even Terry didn't recommend people read them) order. The Disc is the most accessible and forgiving fantasy series out there. Enjoy.
The elephants stand on the back of a giant turtle that flyes across the universe. Stands to reason. Here´s my Discworld reading guide if you are interested: ua-cam.com/video/mEli5AlolqQ/v-deo.html

Agreed! I'm genuinely surprised Mort wasn't mentioned.
I always love seeing the reasons behind people's favorites, especially when it comes to Discworld! What a great video with some great booktubers 😄
Glad you enjoyed it!

For me, hands down, it's Night Watch. I love time travel and I love the Les Mis references. It's just so good

Perhaps a boring answer but agree with the consensus. Guards! Guards! is where Terry really hit his stride.
Thank you very much for the invitation mr Treebeard, always humbling to be surrounded by such Booktube luminaries. Still got to arrange that chat! 👊🍻
Absolutely! Maybe we can do a Discworld readalong in an upcoming month and do a debrief and chat about the book
@@TreeBeardBookReviews sounds like a plan. Anybook anytime!
I've only begun my journey, started with Guards Guards, will definitely be reading a second soon.
Hope you enjoy it!
"Guards, Guards!" = this keystroke { . "Night Watch" = this keystroke }. {The Guards Cycle}
I''d have to go with Thief of Time. It's Pratchett's take on kung fu with a large helping of Death and Susan.
My favorite Discworld novel is the one I have in my hand at the moment the question is asked.
This will probably change as I keep going, but right now my favorite is Soul Music in the Death sub series. As a musician, I really connected with the characters who formed Music With Rocks In! I loved the music jokes, and Death continued to be a fantastic character to follow!
This was fun. Definitely see a running theme with them lol.

Just started Guards Guards! Really surprised that I’m enjoying it but happy to be in this world now.
Glad you are enjoying it. It’s a fantastic book.
My first terry book was dodger, loved it. Favorite discworld book was Equal Rites.
My fav is probably the second one ive read so Pyramids. Night watch is amazing. Wyrd sisters also
Going Postal is my favourite as well
So many great characters
Small Gods for me.
Also, it took me years to read the Shepherds Crown, never going to read it again.
My favorite is either Guards! Guards!, Wyrd Sisters, or Small Gods. I can't pick just one.
Yeah it’s so tough!
@@TreeBeardBookReviews Yeah, it's like trying to pick a favorite child.
@@hannahbrennan2131 haha! I said the exact same thing to my wife when I was picking.
That's why I had to go with my favourite "today". Almost every entry is a contender for *BEST* depending on what side of the bed I got out of. 🤷
GOING POSTAL
How 'bout Mort & Reaper Man
