I didnt expect that result. Thanks for all your time on this, absolutely brilliant once again. Very very surprised, out of curiosity any idea on cfm used on the 717? Thanks Pete.
Hi Paul, Porphis quote around 15cfm, but, that's at 2 bar 29psi and it doesn't need anything like that, at 1.5 bar, so around 22psi, it's around 10.5 cfm, hand on hart, it really doesn't use as much air as they say Thanks, mate, much appreciated 👍
Hi Pete Merry Christmas mate, I was just wondering why you picked the PRD717 over the PRD627 ? I have heard the 627 does spray differently and looking at the nozzle and baffle setup it definitely is not the same as 717.
Hi Mate, Merry Christmas and a happy new year to you, I think I went into it a little in the video but the main reason for the 717 over the 627 is it ability to spray at lower pressures. The 627 isn't as flexible. It likes around 1.8 to 2 bar for clearcoats. The 717 can go to 1.1 or 1.2 bar if you want and up to 2 bar depending on the clear coats used. They are both excellent. If you want a slightly smaller lighter 717 to use at around 2 bar, it's the one to go for
Hi Pete, as someone who has watched thousands of comparison videos, I can say without exaggeration that you are the best comparer I have ever seen. I really admire you. Thank you for all the information you provide.
Hi Mate, Thank you, that is much appreciated ☺️
Hi, do you think it will paint a car bumper well with a 50l 9cfm compressor? Or can you recommend something else for a similar price?
Hi Mate, no, not a bumper, you will struggle for air, can't think of anything else full size, look at mini guns instead
Do you think the Chinese sri pro can handle it? With nozzle 1.2
@Eo-jq6ke Yes, it would do it, it just takes time
Wow, I never expected that the PRD717 would be rated at #1. That was a very enlightening video Pete. I just received my 717 a couple days ago, but the weather here has been really bad. I tried to spray outside, but it didn't come out well. That is 100% user problem not the gun. I think I am better off just building high performance motorcycles and leave the painting to the pro's. If I make it to next summer, I may try again. The Rustoleum paint is not the correct paint to use other than for anything but farm equipment. I am going to try and find some automotive paint that can be used without the need for all the crazy mixing of Japan Dry, Acetone, hardener and all the rest of the guessing for this Rustoleum. Everybody has a different mixing formula for this paint, but I'm done with it. Thanks for all the great videos you produce and I'll still be watching your channel!
Hi Richard, I think you will have much more success with standard automotive base and clear coats. Painting outside is winter is really difficult, so please don't be too disappointed or disheartened, you will get better and the results will improve, but yes, summer would be a much better time to find a gun setup that suits you and your materials
Only you can review the chinese twdevilbliss bro
Hi Buddy, not sure which one that is?
What are your input on the ws400 series 2 1.2 Hd tip
Hi Mate, I've not used the 1.2 version, only the 1.3 and 1.4, one thing I would wonder is the speed it would run, I think it would be pretty slow
@@peteshobbies5383 thank you Pete you think it would be good for mainly flow coating since 1.4 is for faster movement and 1.3 is in between medium speed so 1.2 would be a slow speed so the way this gun atomize clear it would be great since iwata guns were mainly lvlp guns that spray better at slower movements versus the sata and other guns are hvlp guns that require faster speeds
What makes the Iwata slower is the split tip, all split tip guns are slower, the Avalon, Porphis PRD717, PRD627, Iwata LS400, Wider4L are all slower
@ I still have my original iwata ls400 clear gun when they first hit the market I was debating on buying this ws400 series 2 today to see what difference it would make sense I never purchased the ws400 series 1 clear gun.
The LS400 is a genuine HVLP gun, normally regarded as a base coat gun
Hey Pete, thanks for the hard work. I was thinking about getting the Kiwami 3 -v14wb2, a gun you have already used. How does that compare to these top 12? Low overspray in appreciated, fast output is not a priority. Top priority is finish quality for clear and base ( solvent Only). Thanks.
Hi Buddy, The Kiwami3 is a Midi gun, so it's not really competing with theses, it's a very good gun, it's a new version of the W300WB, the review is here, ua-cam.com/video/l38H_sMIGbM/v-deo.html
Pete, for base and clear, iwata lph 300 vs porphis 510, which one you like better? Merry Christmas.
Hi mate, Happy Christmas 🎄, it's a bit difficult to compare them, I'm pretty sure the Porphis PRD510 is only available in 0.8 and 1.0, the LPH300 is 1.2, 1.4 and 1.6 so aiming at different markets I would think
@peteshobbies5383 thank you.
@DL-fc2xt You're welcome buddy 👍
what gun settings do you recommend for the meiji spray gun?
Hi buddy, For clear coat applications, I use full fan and full fluid at 2bar, so 29psi , that's the none HVLP version
"I will take my Iwata's inside when it's cold". Pete, you could put them in a special climatized box (for expensive cigars) next to the cigars. 😂
Hi Harold, Yes, that's exactly what I do with my digital versions, well inside, not in cigar boxes 😂. I only do that because people were telling me the problem seemed to happen when there was a cold spell and then it gets mild and damp, then the problem starts, about 4 or 5 different people have told me that, cheers mate 👍
Awesome video! Do you think the Porphis 717 would be good for things like single stage, primer, epoxy, sealer, etc....and lay them flat to help minimize sanding? Maybe just change the tip or something? I'm not sure what's the best for me between 717 vs 715 and 1.3 and 1.4 I don't care about speed, just capable of spraying a wide range of material and spraying flat.....I'm trying to do a diy show car paint job. I'll need to also paint tight areas in an engine bay where I'll probably need to bring the fan in kind of small and build the paint on a little at a time to get into some odd tight areas.
Hi Stephen, Well, you would want a 1.4 in the Porphis PRD717, I think it should handle it OK but I have not tried it. The Porphis PRD715 would handle it ok. It's a conventional tip, so flows more, which is more important with the materials you mentioned. Again, I would lean towards the 1.4. If you wind the fan in, just remember to wind the fluid in and keep a check on air pressure as it can go up when the fan is turned in, then you will be able to access you tight spots without too much trouble. The gun body is the same, so a tip set converts the Porphis PRD715 in a 717 and the other way round, they both give excellent finishes so you won't be disappointed. I hope that helps 👍
@peteshobbies5383 So I'd probably want to get the 715 for spraying epoxy and primer and such? Is that the material you're not sure about for a 717? The alternative is I can get a used LPH400 with a couple different caps for $500...it's only $200 more than a 717. That's what I was fixing to get before I saw this video since it's so versatile.
@stephenwhite5444 Yes, that's exactly it. Normally, those products are thicker and like to be applied heavier. The 715 is better at that. I would have the PRD717 over the LPH400 any day, or, if you still fancy an Iwata, get the Wider4L from Japan. If the LPH400 is in really good condition, then with too caps, it may be worth it , but if it's an older gun, they do get their problems then
@@peteshobbies5383 I suppose I can get a cheap $100 gun to spray thick stuff. I'll probably be using Slick Sand too which I believe needs close to a 2.0 cap. Whatever gun I use for that I can probably use for epoxy and buildable primers. Do you have any suggestions? All this type stuff will get blocked out anyway.
@stephenwhite5444 Yeah, if you are blocking the stuff out, it's not a problem. The Porphis PHS155 in 1.8 is a well-made gun and not expensive. It's not built to the same standards as the PRD series, but it is still good
Excelente 🎉❤ happy holidays
Thanks, buddy, much appreciated 👍
It is shame I cannot find this anywhere in South Africa. Only budget minis I see here are the K2 but it says it sprays at 3 bar and I need something that won’t blow small parts away. Iwata is a bit out of my budget but seems to be the only option. :(
Hi Buddy, I got this from Paintingtoolsjapan. They could give you a price. There's a link in the video description, it may be too expensive, but it's worth asking them
Been looking forward to this video for a while now. The longer the video went without mentioning the 717 the more excited I got. I've now got two 717s. One in 1.3 for base and one in 1.4 for clear, I've also got a 715 1.3 for larger jobs where speed helps, and a 155 with both 1.3 and 1.8 tips for sealer and primer. All of those I purchased based mainly on your videos. I'm having a great time learning to paint with them over the cheap guns I began with. Still the best painting channel here for me!
Hi Mate, sounds like you are as bad as me 😂 , I have two PRD717s, one 1.3 and one 1.4, I also have a PRD715 in 1.3, which is very fast and really good. I have a PHS155 in 1.3 as well, I want to get at some time the 1.4 setup for the PRD715 or my PRD625 , as that would be a real blast 🤣🤣 Thanks as always, buddy. I appreciate it 👍
Love the videos keep them coming . The only thing keeping me from buying a Meiji finer core is knowing weather or not my Devilbiss DV1 cup and pps adapter will work with it I hate to buy another cup if I dont need it.
Hi Danielle , well, you just cost yourself some money 🤣, because the Finer Core takes the same cups and adapters as the DV1, Gti Pro Lite, ANI Skull ect, no excuses now 😅🤣😂, cheers mate 👍
@@peteshobbies5383 thanks Pete .Thats what I was hoping to hear.
You're welcome buddy 👍
Do you think I could use the lph 400 with a 30 gallon advertised 7.7 cfm @ 40 psi compressor. Looking to paint my project, want to put myself in the best position to achieve a quality finish. I will be painting out of my home garage. If you dont think it will work. Could you recommend some? Thanks
Hi Mate, No, not enough air. I'm afraid, how much do you have to do or what are you spraying in one go?
@peteshobbies5383 I'm spraying a 1985 C10 2 door swb truck. My plan is to paint the cab first firewall, roof, jambs and back all together. Then install the doors front fenders and paint those at the same time. Then the hood. After that I will be painting the box all together. So essentially I will be breaking it up. Also will be going with a solid color Thanks for the response!
@kountrylr23 It's not going to be enough to power the LPH400 for more than a couple of panels. Most of the time, it will be running on your 30-gallon tank. There isn't much in the full size gun market they you could use for a reasonable amount of time, it they are available in the US, see if you can find an Iwata W400 Bellaria, same as an LPH400 but different tip and cap, it will alow you to do more than a couple of panels with your setup and is good for single stage paints in 1.4
@@peteshobbies5383 I will look into that gun. Thanks for the suggestions and Merry Christmas to you!
@kountrylr23 You're welcome buddy, merry Christmas to you and your family 👍
Thanks for the analysis! I have a quick question: My OKX wallet holds some USDT, and I have the seed phrase. (alarm fetch churn bridge exercise tape speak race clerk couch crater letter). What's the best way to send them to Binance?
Hi David, I think maybe you have added this reply to the wrong video? , as I have absolutely no idea what you mean 😅, cheers mate 👍
Dear Pete, Thank you so much for ranking our spray gun at the top! This is a tremendous honor for us. On this Christmas day, we feel especially warm and encouraged by your recognition, which strengthens our commitment to keep moving forward. We will continue to strive to offer better products and services in return for everyone's support. Wishing you a Merry Christmas and happiness for you and your family!
Hi all at Porphis, You thoroughly deserve you places in this top 12, my rankings are all from experience and having had my first Porphis guns nearly 2 1/2 years now they are proving reliable and good quality with exceptional performance. Performance is something you can evaluate very quickly. Reliability and durability take time, and enough time has now passed for me to give a valid opinion, which is very good. Keep up the good work, and I am looking forward to the new year. Cheers ✌️
R 400 is garbage i have a R500 and I love it paint just like the ws 400
Hi Mate, you must have one hell of an R500 if you think it paints like a WS400. A comparison video would be good when you get time, cheers
The ntools sprays clear good, would the ntools spray basecoat just as well?
Hi mate, it does do well, but you need to be careful with the amount of fluid you let flow, as it's possible to overdo it
@peteshobbies5383 Thanks for the info. I can't wait to try the gun will make sure to adjust flow accordingly
@GeorgiaGonzales-f6u You're welcome, buddy 👍
Thanks for the video and wish you a Merry Christmas, mate!
Hi Benjamin, Thanks, mate, a Merry Christmas and New Year to you and your family. Cheers ✌️ 🍻
Pete you have to put Sata 5000 as winner because this prd717 just another copy of it. They did hundreds of different copies of 5000 for years but finally one is close to Sata.
Hi Walter, we agreed on many things, but on this, we will have to differ. The PRD717 and PRD715 aren't really Sata copy's, yes they owe some styling to them but nothing else is much like them, the body has many changes, for example they don't have the fluid adjustment screwing directly into the body, there's also a click mechanism on the adjustment. The tip arrangement is more like a Iwata and Avalon and indeed a Walcom, with the V or U groove designs, so, there comes a time when you just have to conseed, it's a gun on its own merits. The icing on the cake, is its performance, it's much much more refined than a 5000 and produces much better results. I love my Sata 5000, but it's no Porphis PRD717. Happy Christmas to you and your family, Walter, and a safe and happy new year to you buddy, cheers 🍻
Thank you, Pete. I wish you have the same!
I use to run all Walcoms before I switched to all DV1's, and porphis and the ANI skull. I had slim kombat Nero for primer both 360 light base and a clear model and the ego190 mini. Problem with them is they didnt last. The ego190 i was so let down when it started leaking air and no rebuild kit would fix it. That mini before that sprayed cerakote and urethane paint better than any mini even better than dv1s
I remember you saying about your problems with you Walcoms , it something I've heard form many to be honest. How are you finding the ANI Skull for reliability? I've had no problems, but some I know have with some ANI products, although the 200 series seem better
Hi Pete, thanks so much for all of your informative videos, they've been a great help. Best wishes to you and your family for Christmas 🎄and all the best for the New Year🎉
Hi Mate, Thank you, A Merry Christmas, and a happy and safe new year to you and your family. Cheers ✌️
I know I laid my DV1-C down once I got the PRD-715. DV1-C is great but simply not fast enough. Even though DV1-B base coat gun is tuff to beat for base coat. ANI 200 skull is another great one. I really prefer the 1.2mm cap for clear though just like i prefer the 1.2mm nozzle im DV1-C as I spray a lot of 50% to 58% high solids clear coats and 1.2mm breaks it up better to atomize finer for a better finish.
Hi buddy, The DC1 C1 is slow. The C2 cap helps, but some say at the expense of finish. The PRD715 is a very good gun, it could easily make it into this top 12 but, as you will understand, I didn't want to saturate the top 12 with one manufacturers products. The 1.2 is often a way to atomise finer, it's works on the Tekna Gti Pro Lite as well, I recently experimented with 1.1 in the DV1 and the Pro Lite with very good effect, I made a video in fact, not out yet but will be , Cheers buddy, thanks for watching 👍
Hi Pete - Christmas wishes to you
Hi Mate, Thank you. Best wishes to you and your family at Christmas. Cheers 👍
Excelente amigo Petes sin duda alguna un excelente video y agradezco su tiempo para nosotros, me as convencido de adquirir la porphis😂, saludos y te deseo de corazón que pases una muy feliz noche buena, saludos.
Hi Buddy, Thank you, and a happy Christmas and New Year to you as well 😊
I just got my 717 a week ago.. I was blown away on the build quality for the price. Have not been able to spray it yet but it is built beautifully. Even the cap feels and souns like butter when screwing it on and off lol
@@bradleyyounger8499 estaba indeciso por qué ya tengo el wider4l pero viendo este video me volví a animar a comprarlo, voy a tener que pedirlo, espero y disfrutes el tuyo saludos
You would be disappointed when you use it. It really is a very good spray gun regardless of price
@@peteshobbies5383 aparte Petes dices que es buena rociando desde 1.3 a 2.0 bars osea que es muy bueno el ajuste

Thanks, mate. Happy Christmas 🎄 👍
@peteshobbies5383 hi pete what is worng with sagola they raise their prices on the 4600 and no one will answer their phone here in the USA and everyone is trying to sell them on the internet thank for any information
Great video Pete.so I can use a iwata wider4L 1.3 fluid tip in a iwata kiwami 4
Hi Mate, you can but you need to be careful what cap you use it with, the BA4J cap will not take any of the split tips, so the Wider4L tip will fit a Kiwami4 WBX or WB, not the BA4J, the hole in the centre of the BA4J is too small for the thicker tips used in the WB, WBX and Wider4L
Hi Pete love the vidoes Just boutght the PRD715. Is really like to see a top 10 primer guns video Thanking You in advance
Hi Mate, Yes, you're the second person to ask that, I'll see what I can do. The 715 is a cracking gun. It would be in this top 12, but I sort of put it with the 717, The PC415 would be in there as well, but I had to draw the line somewhere 🤣😂🤣
@peteshobbies5383 A primer video and base video would be fantastic. I haven't used my PHS 155 1.8 tip for primer yet, but I was thoroughly impressed with how well it's 1.3 tip laid sealer out.
@Willgpi Yes, I will work on that as loads have asked for the same videos, cheers 👌
My go to every day is the ani skull or the Sata jet phaser 5000B RP, both feel right at home no matter what clear in spraying
Hi mate, I don't have the Phaser, as far as I know, they put a CC cap in that which can produce excellent results, same with Skull, very good spray gun, all the guns in this video are very good, it just a small margin that separates them. Thanks buddy 🙏
Spray Guns Direct has the ANi T-shirt and hat offer currently on the skull
Hi mate, I did see that a while ago, didn't realise the offer was still going I could do with an ANI cap 😂, they are good guns and the kit with the 3 air caps and digital gauge is great value, cheers mate 👍
Great video Sir, Merry Christmas
Cheers, Bryan, and to you and your family, mate 👍
Merry christmas
Thanks mate, same to you and family 👍
Я в шоке от того факта что такое информативное и полезное видео существует в нашей вселенной. Огромное спасибо Вам, Пит. Буду ждать видео про SATA Jet X new. Подписался.
Hi Mate, Thank you, high praise indeed 🙏 Yes, the Jet X , I am looking forward to seeing what that's like. It's a bit of a departure for Sata from their standard format, I have also just got an Avalon A60 which is proving quite good, interesting times, cheers buddy 👌
I'm running the w400 lv4 for almost 20 years folks are saying the Ws Series 2 is a Hozier maybe this is what I need I would like a little bit faster
Hi Mate, so you W400/LPH400 normally runs at a lower pressure. What are you running it st? The WS400 Series 2 isn't particularly fast, but if you are running your LV4 setup at a lower pressure, the WS400 at 29psi will seem faster
@peteshobbies5383 about 10 psi I'm getting ready to paint my 250 Ford so I'm getting it set up I put a gauge back on it for the first time in a long time some people say they run up to 30 PSI with this set up will the w400 choose through a lot more clear coat than the lph one is more efficient
The W400 normally ships with the LV2 cap. These are much faster but run around 29 psi, not as good a finish as the WS400, though
@peteshobbies5383 I have the lv4 1.43 cut tulip tip
@@peteshobbies5383 for clear coat the Finish improves the more the pressure goes up the more the gun goes compliant or HVLP it increases the orange peel you get less atomization when the pressure drops but you do get more efficiency transfer efficiency
Awesome! I enjoyed the video Pete.
Hi mate, thanks you, good to hear you enjoy it, been coming for a while and finally got round to it, cheers buddy 👌
Porphis PRD717 no surprise at all, now I wonder if you had more time with the Taiwanese split nozzle guns if you would put those on the list too
Hi Mate, I've been using the Avalon in the week. Certainly, first impressions are very good, I'm sure it would make it on this list. I don't know where at the moment, but it's a good gun, cheers mate
So many of thos guns i own also, the Pro Light and the PRD 627 and Adom X 20or21 Guns are a bit heavier in the hand than i like was the first thing i have found, i haven't had the chance to spray with my PRD 627 yet. Do you think 627 and the 717 tips will inter change ?
Hi Mate, no, they won't interchange as they are quite different, as are the way the Porphis PRD717 and PRD627 spay, the 717 is happy at lower pressures than the 627, I was using both of them in the week, and it reminded me of how good they are, excellent tools, cheers mate
So happy to see Meiji at number 2. I just got one in the mail yesterday, can’t wait to use it.
Hi Buddy, I don't think you will be disappointed. it's only small but packs a punch. What do you think about the build quality? It's pretty good, isn't it ?
@ really nice build quality. Right up there with all the top brands. Used it today and wow what a difference compared to my old Sata 5000 RP. The Sata oversprays so much compared to to the Meiji
@A.M03 I thought you would like it, I do have a soft spot for the Sata 5000B but it's nothing like as refined as the Meiji, cheers mate, thanks for letting us know how it goes, always good to get other opinions so others can read them and get information 👍
Did you get the 1.3 or 1.5? I'm thinking about it but not sure what size to get
I got 1.3 and 1.5, both excellent, 1.5 is faster as you would expect, 1.3 gives more control if that is what you prefer
Excellent work. Can we pls get a video for primers and primer sealers and what fluid tip to use. Happy holiday, bubs 🍻
Hi Daniel, Happy holidays, mate. I'll see what I can do. Cheers 🍻
@peteshobbies5383 Thank you. Quick question: When spraying metallics is a 1.3mm fluid tip, the way to go or what size would you recommend when spraying. Is it better to spray with a split tip nozzle like the Iwata LS/WS400 Series 2, or would any gun be suitable. Im trying to prevent drying and modeling. Thank you again. Have a blessed holiday. 🍻
@danielcarcamo6336 Hi Daniel, if it's getting a little dry in the application, then a none split tip gun may be the way to go, so something like a DV1 Base gun, or a Pro Lite TE10, an Iwata W400, tip size of 1.3 should be ok, I think it will be the split tip that's causing you problems, so gun without may help
@peteshobbies5383 Thank you very much again. I thought the split tip nozzle was better on metallics, been that it's more efficient when it automizes out the gun vs. a regular tip nozzle. I was thinking I needed a bigger tip nozzle like a 1.4, 1.5mm. Very interesting. Thank you for the advice. I will do that.
@danielcarcamo6336 Normally the split tips are better, but it's not working for you by the sounds of it, the Kiwami4 WB is available in 1.4 and 1.6, so is the Wider4L
VERY GOOD VIDEO MATE❤❤❤,I KNEW THE PORPHIS WERE GOOD, WASN'T EXPECTING, AND WAS EXPECTING IT TO BE GREATTTT AT THE SAME TIME, AND IT IS GREATTTT ❤❤❤❤
Hi Lesli, Good to hear you enjoyed it. In my mind, I know the PRD717 would win. It was just a way of scoring it that was fair, so I gave performance the bulk of the marks. There are no bad sprayguns in this top 12, so the edge one has over another is only small. When that happens, other factors kick in and help to give you an order of ranking, PRD717, or the 715 for that matter are excellent at what they do, have proven reliable and are built well, cheers mate
Awesome video. Thanks for making me feel better about buying the Porphis guns that I have....LOL
Hi Mate, you're welcome, I presume you like the Porphis guns you have?
@@peteshobbies5383 Yes, I love them. I have the 627, 717 and the 338. Haven't been able to try out the 338 yet, but have shot two different full jobs with the 627 and 717. I actually have a better clear finish out of the 627. Could just be me though. I just ordered the Meiji Finer core about 15 min ago, after watching this video... Hopefully it performs as well for me as it did for you.
Yes, the 627 I was using in the week , and the 717, to be honest, if I counted them separately it would have been a Porphis festival 😂, so I just put two in, the PC415 would be in there as well, but I had to draw the line somewhere. I think you will like the Meiji, it's only small but has a punch and is so well made, cheers mate 👍

Pete, this is quite a delightful video you have put together. Thank you! I've been a sibscriber for a few months and really happy i found your channel. I've been working on refinishing my old trucks lately and learning as i go. I bought an A610 gun a few months ago and have been impressed by the performance. I recently decided to buy a better gun and went with the Meiji/Exodus, but was debating between that and the Phorpis. Looks like either would have been a good option for me. I'm considering this my Christmas present btw ☺️. Merry Christmas!
Hi Carlos, Thanks, mate. I've been meaning to do this for a few years, which is why some of the footage is older as it was already edited into small 3 minute or so sections. The Meiji is a cracking gun and very well made, so I don't think you will be unhappy with it. Happy Christmas and a safe and prosperous New Year, cheers mate 👍
Welp... only one of my guns made the list, well maybe two if counting the Kiwami4. Great job, Pete. All great guns!
Hi Boss, only one, well, that's better than none, I guess, thanks mate for your support throughout the year. it is much appreciated 👍
Will you do the best basecoat spray guns?
PRD717 lol
Hi Buddy, Yes, I was originally just going to put them together, so best gun overall but it really didn't work as there are good base coat gun that aren't particularly good for clear and the other way round, so yes, I'll do a basecoat version and there will be different guns that appear as well as some in this, cheers 🍻
The PRD717 will probably be in there, but where I'm not sure
Thanks, I use for basecoat iwata lph400 purple cap, excellent for metallic, butbi want something better, as well i use the iwata ls400 hvlp 1.3, ahh ok, tekna ultimate basecoat, ah, ok... i wany something very easy and forgive to the modern metallic basecoat. What do you recomend it, please. Merry Christmas from NY USA.
