    i just can't vibe with the new mixes... Plug in Baby is utterly ruined by the more prominent snare, and yeh idk, maybe it's coz I super love the bass guitar parts coz this album and their next had so many songs I either learnt to play on bass when I started out or yearned to learn one day when starting out on bass guitar.

    The Monster of Peladon is heightened by The Curse of Peladon coz Curse makes the Ice Warriors good guys as a twist, and it makes them being baddies in Monster a twist, which is really fucking neat. Planet of the Daleks is one of the very rare scary classic stories for me. Especially the night time stand against the creatures in the dark. The Sea Devils has the greatest fight scene of all Doctor Who, which in fairness isn't hard. The Time Warrior is naff... agreed. I really would love to see a video of yours about The Mutants. I really wanna love it and I feel like you have the power to make that possible. As it stands it's maybe my least fav of all third Doc stories... also i totally agree Ambassadors of Death is the best of a mighty season

    My Doctor Who spreadsheet lists, from left to right... The Doctor's number -useful for sorting the rows how I want Classic -this get ticked if it's a classical Doctor Who episode... Episodes -how many episodes in the serial... only filled in for classic Who Last Played -the date I last watched it /10 -an attempt at rating it out of 10 with increments of 0.5... this is a score that tries not to be too subject to changes in opinion based on my last watch, so each time I watch, I'm only allowed to change this by 1. Episode -Each episode is numbered based on season and place in season... The Rescue is 0.023 (Classic stories are below zero, so 0.02 means Season 2, and the 2 on the end of that denotes its place in the season... Survival is 0.264, Spyfall Part 1 is 12.01, etc. This is an easy way for episodes to be sorted chronologically, which is how I usually have them sorted unless I'm analysing the data. Title -Self explanatory. I rename An Unearthly Child to The Tribe, and The Daleks to The Survivors... also in a separate app I rank every televised story based entirely on my experience watching it in my most recent watch of it, and if an episode gets into the top 10, it permanently gets a number at the end of the title saying how high it reached at its highest ever point. Plays -This is how many times I've chosen to watch something not out of obligation due to a watchthrough. If I start watching a story, I cannot abandon it unless it's very early on, or very late on, so that each watching can count as 1 each. Watchthrough -This is watchings of the story done because of a watchthrough. Tier -In my aforementioned recent ranking based on my most recent watch of an episode (done in a separate app), which tier did it end up in? Tiers are S, A, B, C, D and F. F is defined as a story I overall did not enjoy. It's the smallest of the tiers lol. Boom got put there yesterday. Fuck Boom, it sucks so bad. Tiers -This lists the highest and lowest tiers the story has been in. For example, The Mind Robber has S-F, whereas Timelash has S-A. Ah -In increments of 1, the story is rated between 0 and 10 how scary it is. Ha -In increments of 1, the story is rated between 0 and 10 how funny it is. No -In increments of 1, the story is rated between 0 and 10 how much I hate my most hated part of the episode. Yes -In increments of 1, the story is rated between 0 and 10 how much I love my most loved part of the episode. Cry -This says if I cried and how much I cried. I leave it blank if I didn't make me cry, and then the scale goes something like: nearly, Nearly, NEARLY, wet, Wet, WET, yes (tear has to travel away from eye to achieve yes), Yes, YES. Emo -This is my newest category and I haven't fully worked out what I mean by it, but it's basically about emotional investment... coz some episodes hit me intensely in ways that aren't entirely related to crying, and I want to recognise them. I'm still feeling my way around this tbh, and idk exactly what I mean by it. Maybe it'll evolve into something else. Past Tiers -Every time an episode gets ranked, I list which tier it was in. 73 Yards is ASS, lol. I only recently started doing this and I'm so so glad I came up with this coz it's a fair representation of how I feel about a story over time. Year -Year of broadcast Writers -The writer/s Showrunner -showrunner or classic equivalent. Director -The Director Notes -Random notes on an episode. If an episode ever gets No.1 in the rankings, it gets a note saying 'Has been no.1 ep.' It's also useful for noting where a watchthrough with a friend is at. Blink got an F one time, and my note for that is 'lol F'. If a story became my no.1 classic story, I make a note of that - in my first Classic watchthrough, Timelash became the first no.1 classic story lol. Ghostlight's note is 'Control is a trans icon.' These are the categories on the spreadsheet on my phone. On my PC, I transpose all that data, and also add in the data from the episodes being ranked, and it gives each episode a number based on where in the ranking they are, in addition to recording the highest and lowest they have ever ranked which i can tell by which row they are on. There's a bunch of other non spreadsheet notes I have, and rankings of stuff. I realised that young Lucy enjoyed ranking stuff a bunch, so I figured that she had tapped into autistic joy for it in a way that had since been clouded by age. -I recently made a ranking of every story without regard for the latest watch - attempting to right wrongs like The Mind Robber being listed as an F tier based on my latest watch when I know in my heart it's an S tier. -I numerically calculate the ranking of Seasons and Doctors based on which tier they are in based on my most recent watch. Each tier is assigned a number (S=1, A=2, B=3, C=4, D=5, F=7 coz to be in F is very bad), and an average for each story in a season/era is calculated and then they are ranked that way. -I rank so many things based on my feelings... companions, Doctors and so so much more.

    🧡💛🤍🩵💙 (This gets long sorry) The irony of the main argument being ‘aroace people don’t experience stigma/hate/whatever so don’t count’ when saying that is dismissive, invaliding and often used as erasure and therefore is literally being aro/acephobic in and of itself is astounding. Even if its just the “stupid” things, like not really knowing why you were so uncomfortable with the suggestion of ‘kiss this person’ in truth or dare, or never having an answer to ‘who is your (celebrity) crush’, the aroace experience in the world we exist in is often so alienating, because no, we aren’t ‘spicy straight’, we are asexual. We are aromantic. And we should be able to be visible and proud without hate. Anyway if anyone needs some good aroace rep in media, by an aroace author!, ik its fairly old news at this point but pick up almost any alice oseman story. Loveless in particular is essentially just her personal experience and wow it hit hard. Also, now I want to hear the ‘the Doctor should be written as asexual’ rant, because you are so right.

  • @RC-ov7fj
    @RC-ov7fj 3 дні тому

    I never comment on youtube videos, but this hit too close to home not to. It took me 2 years after finding out asexual and aromantic were identities to actually realise that that was me. I was bullied in primary school for at least 6 months for having a crush on an older classmate despite the fact that I've never had a crush in my life and the counsellor I spoke to about it turned around and said 'Well, have you ever asked them to stop?', and I already had multiple times. I stopped saying anything and pretended to feel things through secondary school, until I realised I was aroace, so I wasn't bullied again. And that's ignoring all of the comments I've heard as an adult. I've also felt very excluded from pride as there is a lot of sexual representation at pride (and I'm not saying they don't deserve a place to do that at pride after all the oppression they've faced, they really do) but as someone closer to the sex-repulsed label, it can be very difficult navigating pride. Also going to pride reminds me of what I'm missing out on as I would love to have a romantic relationship with someone, but telling someone you don't actually have a crush on them and potentially may never, doesn't really build up a good relationship. I would also need to set stricter boundaries in the relationship, which again making people feel more uncomfortable in the relationship. I've now given up on the idea of relationships and will just stick to having best friends as it's much easier. Sorry for the rant, and thank you for this video, it helps spread awareness of these identities and also the spectra they exist on. It also helps people like us feel like we're less alone, as there's far more of us than people realise and we deserve a place to exist in society without people telling us we're just 'spicy straights' or just 'attention-seeking'. Thank you for being braver than I ever could by making a video this personal!

    i feel like this "discourse" comes around every year for pride, and it hurts every. single. time. This is straight up just what people have said about bi people, "you're not gay enough to be LGBT". Oh, you're attracted to the opposite gender? Excluded. Too straight. Who cares that you're also attracted to people of the same gender? Oh, you aren't attracted to the same gender? Excluded. Too straight. Who cares that you're also not attracted to the opposite gender? what makes it somehow even worse is that one of the first online forums by and for asexuals has taken the stance that microlabels don't exist, and you can't ever be sex-positive or experience sexual attraction if you want to be called ace. It's not just coming from within the larger queer community. Some of it comes specifically from within the asexual community. There is no winning with exclusionists. They're always gonna find a reason why you "make the community look bad". In the end, all you can really do is be yourself and find someplace where you can express yourself for who you truly are. One day we'll all be turned to ash, and the arguing will finally have ceased. One day, we might get treated as actual human beings. Let's hope that day comes soon <3.

    • @michaelinlofi
      @michaelinlofi 3 дні тому

      Heard you on the ace community also having exclusion problems. I saw quite a bit of that when I was on my Google rampage trying to figure my own shit out, and boy oh boy did it not help. I was lucky enough to find some articles on Medium from an aroace writer who's on the more positive to indifferent end and those really helped. And the exclusion from the greater queer community has been something I've been simmering about since coming out because finding I have to explain myself over and over for stupid things like "but didn't you try dating someone" or "how is it a spectrum" is exhausting

  • @traceysnaps
    @traceysnaps 4 дні тому

    As someone who also felt like something was "wrong" with me my whole life, the day I found out I was ace was like finally throwing off a huge boulder that had been weighing me down, affecting every aspect of my life. No longer does a casual question on my romantic life from a colleague give me a rush of anxiety, no longer do I force myself to partake in activities that I don't really want to engage in just because I "should" want those things, no longer am I waiting for "the right person" to help me finally see what I've been missing. If only asexuality was more openly talked about when I was younger, I could have avoided so many years of pain and anxiety. It's videos like this that will increase awareness and make things a little easier for the younger generation, so thank you so much for posting this. I know it's hard, but it makes such a difference. Those awful comments from the queer community towards Yasmin show categorically that discrimination of ace folk is real and pervasive.

    The Donner cut of the movie would have been significantly better than the Lester cut if he had been allowed to complete it. But comparing a completed movie to one made up of outtakes and unfinished effects shots is unfair. To me, The Donner cut felt more like a rough draft than a finished movie.

    Tom Mankiewicz also wrote Live and Let Die, in addition to Superman I (and most of II), so I suspect he’s responsible for this same actor playing a sheriff in II. And since Mankiewicz walked after Donner was fired, I suspect those scenes with the East Houston sheriff were filmed by Donner.

    I don't feel the colour of the characters is really important, and I think it is a little racist to raise this point. They are not historical characters, and their skin colour does not matter. The reason Danny got the job is because he was amazing in the audition. I think whoever would be best for the part can play the characters. 🤨

    The second movie was not 'jokey' - it was mean spirited. It had none of the original's inspirational note. You actually like every character including Luthor. 2 had a sadistic nature. I think Lois shooting Clark w blanks was so much better than Superman being as clumsy as Clark and dropping his glasses in the fire. Also I disagree - Zod saying free worked better than no dialigue.Overall this review that the 'cut' is not effective because 'updates' are cheap and the transitions of new scenes and old fail is correct - though that is more or less true of all 'Directors cuts'. This is better than the atrocious 'Lord of the Rings' which was alteady too long and adds exclusively scenes the editors were right to cut

    Almost all films made for the cinema were shot at 24 FPS. In the UK all these films were transmitted at 25 FPS for many, many years. Few people ever noticed; nothing could be done at the time. It was just the way it was. The same was true for VHS and DVDs. Blu-ray did start being released in 24 FPS. The very first parts of Dr Who were transmitted live and never recorded as such. No one ever thought a repeat was required. Afterall with only one BBC channel at the time, no need to repeat anything. However, a 16mm copy was made but very poor quality. It was basically a 16mm camera pointed at a TV screen. Never meant for viewing, simply used in case of a complaint or something someone said, lawsuit etc. In many cases, the 16mm copy was never even developed. Often these images were very poor with poor geometry as the TV screens in those days were not flat.

    I love your analysis over this album. I think Anthony's previous works get drowned out by the success of "Hurry up, we're still dreaming". Which is ultimately a shame. The layers and texures that he uses to create these "worlds" or "soundscapes" is absolutely astonishing. However, They aren't necessarily flamboyant enough to catch the main appeal of the masses. Those of us who have dug into his history, I believe, have truly found a treasure.

      Ooh, quotes. Allow me to quote someone too! “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.” - George Satayana. I think i said several times in this video I don't believe that Robert Holmes, David Maloney or Phillip Hinchcliffe were actively racist. This is not meant to judge them as such. This simply exists as an analysis of this past mistake supported by research, through which I found a lot of the racist tropes this serial unfortunately pulls from are not so relegated to the past and still very much around in today's media. All this was, was an exercise in my own media understanding. I knew it was racist by today's (and even 1980s, check that newspaper i cited) standards, but I really wanted to know _why_ so, this video exists

    Found my people in this comments section (I’m a nerd for file formats and doctor who). I find series 3-4 to have an almost x-files look to it with the use of low-key and motivated lighting and on-site filming (think of the lighting in episodes like blink). I wish there was more info out there about the cinematography in this show.

    They say the past is a foreign country. Here we have another white, middle class boy, not even born when the series aired but who understands it all oh-so-well. I could explain why you are wrong but it would take too long and I would not like to deprive 'people of colour' everywhere their champion, their hero, their voice and their liberator. Instead I shall leave this Poundland William Wilberforce to his messaniac pretensions and watch something a little more informed and, dare I say it, adult

    I dont like or enjoy this movie but somehow ive never stopped thinking about it since it came out... Its awful but somehow not soulless Love how one of the cameos of the original cast consisted of turning her into a gorilla and playing the Intel jingle. So so classy and timeless ... Misguided to say the least...

    I know it would never happen but I’d love if doctor who kept that season 1 early 2000s camera look just with modern special effects. It just looked so cozy compared to the fake cinematic look they use now

    So they were setting this in an alternate universe? Shame they did a bad job of it, it could have been interesting.

    Might a niggling thing, but I'm petty like that, as DV was a specific format widely used from consumer to pro from like '98 to '09, Digi-Beta used higher fidelity 10-bit YUV 4:2:2 encoding than the DV(DV, DVcam, DVCpro) which were lower bitrate 8bit 4:2:0 in PAL cameras. Basically Doctor Who used the highest fidelity standard def digital format of the era in Digi-Beta, not the DV format used by most wedding videographers of the time.

    The Space Pirates 2 was *not* shot on 35mm film. Nothing aside from Spearhead from Space was *shot* entirely on film. The Space Pirates was cut together in the usual way on 625-line b/w videotape and then was telerecorded to 35mm film for broadcast. This was done because the necessary videotape equipment was expected to be in use for another program that evening, and thus they had to show it from film. What you essentially have with episodes that were broadcast that way, and have been retained in the archives, is a somewhat better representation of what the episode would have looked like on broadcast, in other words, a much better copy of a videotape's resolution than 16mm film telerecordings would have produced, but still low resolution compared to something was acquired directly onto film in the first place.

      I have since been made aware of this. Frustratingly enough that was my initial impression but a couple of sources such as TARDIS Wiki alleged it was shot on 35mm. I got turned around, and made a mistake here. A correction was issued in my follow up video

      @@michaelinlofi That's good. By the way, there are some 35mm film sequences that were shot for inclusion in Pirates Episode 1, and they were included on the Lost in Time DVD set. But these sequences, as you mention in your video, were, as a matter of routine, telecined to VT and edited into the material acquired/shot directly on VT, thus reducing their quality and producing an entirely VT experience. The filmed material looked fuzzy simply because the telecine equipment of the day was pretty low tech compared to today's scanners. Typically, the filmed sequences were retained for a brief time and then thrown out. (horrors, I know) The few which have survived when scanned look fantastic!

    As good as the Giles Martin mixes are, I find that the mixes by Radio Wollaton are far better, IMHO. You can find these and other Beatles mixes here on UA-cam. Also: UA-cam has the mono mixes of The Beatles’ albums, in case you’re interested.

    Even putting aside the racist asian representation in the Serial, another big problem is that it's too long at 6 Parts. If it was shortened down to 4 parts, a lot of the more casually racist lines could have been cutout, in addition to some of the padding (like the pointless sequence where Jago and Litefoot escape only to be captured a minute later). It's frustrating because I do like a lot of Robert Holmes' DW serials (especially 'The Time Warrior, 'The Deadly Assassin' and 'The Caves of Androzani') and I wish that he had lived to write for the 7th Doctor.
