Honestly all of the changes on the remixx lead to all of the tracks sounding more punchy and for me that is a positive. HOWEVER nothing baffles me more than how Matt’s vocals get turned down really low at the crescendo towards the end of feeling good. I have never and will never understand how that was allowed. It’s so jarring

Great video! As someone who became a Muse fan when the remixx was already out and listened only to that version until recently, you’ve really opened my eyes to a lot of things I missed, and you solidified my opinion that the remixx is far superior.
One of my favorite things I remember hearing from the Citizen Erased Remix is that during the chorus there’s a higher vocal harmony that I could never hear in the original. That higher harmony gave me chills when I first heard it. Another moment that immediately gave me chills was the strings in the second half of Space Dementia that was originally a very muted synth line. Completely changed my perspective of the song
I just wish that the Absolution remaster won't be as bricked as this remix. It's genuinely one of the most taxing listens just because of how loud this remaster is. A shame really since (some baffling changes to certain tracks aside) I really like what they did to Space Dementia, Hyper Music and Futurism.
I know what you mean. I find it interesting that this mix is so much more detailed than the original, but then they felt the need to compress it. Though I'll be honest, the compression only ever bothers me in certain parts. Most of it is fine, but the guitar noise at the beginning of Hyper Music and Citizen Erased being as loud as it is bothers me. That's really my only gripe with Muse in general - they master their albums very loudly
Super nice video! that snare on new born made me think they made a mistake.. I also feel lots of the energy from the original mix comes from the low muddy and heavy compression. And the lack of low end in the snare makes it more intens. On the remix, tracks like Bliss and Hyper music are so pushed in into harmonic distortion to make them sound louder that to me they sound less clear but eather crushes and too bright. the original sound suites the way the played as loud as they can, and they aditutes at that time. What i loved about the new mix is to hear all the parts they didnt use, and to hear some parts clearer. Again great video!

Which makes a lot of sense to me really, and is my only gripe with Muse in general. I don't know how many people I fight with on this, but nothing can ever, ever compare to the original. There's only 1 song where APC rocked this out blowing away John Lennon's Imagine. Still, the only cover I'd take even over John Lennon. No matter if it's The Cure, Taylor Swift, or MUSE, they got famous with how they sounded THEN. You can't go back in time to 18. Technology gets better, but the innocense and feelings at the time are permanently erased. As a family of musicians, I look back all the time and say, I wrote that? Back when everything was rawly recorded on cassette. It's just wild. So yup, I'm weird, I prefer the original and probably always will. Carry on!
Totally fair! At the end of the day these are just alternate takes - so long as the original mix continues to be readily available (and the original for Origin continues to be), then all is good, nothing's been erased per se
I don't think they should've left the synths in citizen erased with the string, I think they should've brought them back in right at the very end. I think most people I've seen agree
One song where I preferred the muddiness is Micro Cuts, I wasn't a fan of his vocals having much more clarity, I liked not being able to catch what Matt was singing lyrically(although I did already know from my hundreds of listens) I also didn't like his added humming vocals before the verses. On Citizen Erased I wasn't a fan of the double layering for the clean guitar parts, those parts felt like they were meant to be quiet and subtle. The ending is fantastic in the remix though. Another Citizen Erased critique I have is the complete removal of the background organs during the mellow pre-chorus. I feel like they could have worked with the guitar chords they were trying to shine a light on.
The only thing I quite miss on the remix is the citizen erased into micro cuts. I love the beginning of micro cuts with the harpsichord but I miss the transition. Everything else is far superior.
Unpopular opinion, at least here. I take the original any day of the week. I feel like the remix has been stripped of all the character that the original had. For example. For example the guitar in Citizen Erased has this kind of a Telephone effect in the original, really gives it a character. While in the remix it sounds bland. he same applies for the bass in the CE. It sounds way synthier in the original, but in the remix it sounds just like bass with a alot of grid or distortion. These are just few examples. there are many more.
Completely fair! I personally think it's less of a stripping of the character and more just a different character. And as I said while I consider this remix a net positive there are definitely things I would have done differently, and I will always prefer the original mix of New Born.

Plug in Baby is utterly ruined by the more prominent snare, and yeh idk, maybe it's coz I super love the bass guitar parts coz this album and their next had so many songs I either learnt to play on bass when I started out or yearned to learn one day when starting out on bass guitar.

Something interesting about the original is that for me Bliss is worse on vinyl than electronicly.
