Nice box!
Thank you 😊
What a great way to use scrapes of wood. I have lots of exotic woods so I am going to use that and see what I get.Julien
Awesome, let me know how yours turns out!
did you say you have woodworking for three years? Well done you will go far with your positive approach. Julien
Thank you. And yes just about 3 years, with 1.5 of those being mostly full time which has made a huge difference just in the fact that I was able to learn by testing more things out quicker. I love woodworking and to share what I learned. How about yourself?
I have been woodworking for 50 plus years still love it and love seeing young people do it. I never get tired of learning and getting better. Julien.
Great to see you again Winnie, been too long! The box turned out great! I made one last year for my Nephew to store his watch. Hope you are well, look forward to seeing more content soon.
Thanks Cliff, I’m doing well, how are you? A watch box is a great idea. Perhaps with a glass lid?
@@standishwoodstory Doing well here Winnie! The box I made didn't have a glass lid, although that would have been a great idea. He wanted his name engraved on it so I used my CNC. Looks like you have a similar mower as me.
The golden ratio exists everywhere in nature so why not in a box design as well. Makes sense!!! I would use the box on my desk to keep my work stuff organized. Thanks for another great video👍
Good idea. Staying organized is key, and boxes sure are great for that:)
Nice build and video.
Thanks I’m glad you enjoyed it
Nice job on the box! The new shop looks to be working well for you.
Thank you. Yes I’m feeling more settled in the new shop, it was great to put them into action again and see if my positioning of them actually made sense.
Simple but beautiful and the maple is a nice accent on the top. Great job! I too, enjoy making boxes. They make great Christmas gifts. You may want to think about someday replacing the original miter gauge on the table saw. It would most likely improve the accuracy of the mitered corners and would add versatility to the miter gauge. Keep up the great content. JimE
Thank you appreciate the kind feedback, and a new miter gauge would be great, I’ll take any excuse to upgrade a tool 😉
1.618, using it for sure. Thanks for the video.
Let me know how it turns out for you :)
THANKS FOR THE VIDEO
My pleasure. Thanks for watching.
Simple, yet so complicated, The Box LOL
😂 yup indeed
There is something very beautiful about a woman that creates things with her hands.
Thank you
Long time no see! Hello!!!
Hello John, how’s it going? :)
@@standishwoodstory #2 daughter is about to start college in a few weeks. Things are exciting around here. I haven't been in the shop much lately. But I'll def try this box too - thanks for that. What's been going on with you?
Thank you for these videos. Like you, I started learning woodworking a few years ago through UA-cam and other social media sources. I don't have a wonderful shop like yours and I'm certainly not as skilled as you at this point, but I'm still learning and you're one of the reasons I keep going. Thank you so much!!!
My pleasure; that just made my day to hear, thanks for sharing that ❤️
En rigtig fin box❤
Tak :)
For someone who hasn’t been woodworking so long you are, you are very good at explaining (teaching) what you are doing💪🏻 I too have been making boxes this year, I decided not to use wrapping paper when giving gifts and use for smaller items wooden boxes up to 30x40cm. I gift tea, chocolate, wine and such so boxes are appropriate size but I do boxes for Photos, postcards, playing cards, candles etc. my boxes don’t turn out 100 percent perfect but imo they re hand made so no need for the perfection…. Thx for showing, most definitely some tips I could use, glad to see you back and take care of that neck Greetings from Germany 🇩🇪
I love the idea of making boxes to use as gift wrapping. I may just steal that one :) thanks for watching and your continuous support.
What would you use your box to store?
I will be making the candle holder they look great if i can. I am 78 & live in Nova Scotia great place
That’s wonderful, let me know how yours turns out :)
Enjoyed the series, as for electric, because your workshop is basically in a building that is not modified, it is a simple fix, to move plugs up, down, sideways, and the like. As you stated in previous video, you'll get to it, this is the best time to see how you feel with regard to workflow as it relates to tool/machine positioning. Most guys/Gals I know who do installation, love these kind of projects, because it is a blank slate, Looking forward to seeing other videos. And yes I subbed.
Thanks for the info, and sub, much appreciated!
Note to self : The list is never complete. Enjoying the content as a new woodworker and the shop.
That sure is true 😂 the never ending list indeed.
Quick question. It looks like you were nailing the middle of the bottom boards to something but I didn’t see you put in any kind of support pieces. Were you nailing these boards to each other on an angle ? Btw I have this a thumbs up because it the boxes simplicity. Very nice
The bottom boards are just attached with outdoor glue and Brad nails to the frame (to edge only, nothing in the middle :)
Beautiful! Easy to follow. What kind of liner did you use?
Thank you. I used landscape fabric, it comes in different thicknesses, the thinner ones are fine. You can get them at most hardware stores.
These can not handle weather very well..I have two outside as a test and in one month the legs are separating..
I’m sorry to hear this is your experience, lots of things can affect the life of a planter box. Direct sunlight, lots of constant rain, snow, and the material used. I recommend using cedar or pressure treated wood if not for veggies, always use outdoor glue such as titebond 3 and add several layers of protective paint/finish such as an outdoor urethane. I’ve had mine outside for over a year in all of these conditions (Ontario Canada) and they still look great.
@@standishwoodstory I used pressure treated lumber, Titebond 3 and brads.. They need a good sealer because rain will cause the wood to expand and contract much greater than normal and losen the best of glues you have..I think Thompson water seal should help a great deal..I'm in Florida and they got rain 4 or 5 times before separating in a months time.
you do a great job i will be makeing these thanks
Glad you like them! Have fun building :)
You are awesome at doing laser and woodworking projects. Keep sharing both, love them!
Thank you so much, appreciate the kind feedback ❤️
That is awesome! What kind of software did you use for the drawing and plan?
Thanks. I used lightburn to draft up the template that I cut on my laser.
Thank you 😊
Hope you had a great one!
1x6x8’s 😂🤔
Indeed
Fint fuglehus til det nye hus❤
Tak :)
I watched several of your Christmas projects last night and was impressed with your work. Your projects are simple and fun to make and of course to share. Here comes a but, I don't know how long you have been doing this type of work, and I am jealous of your shop, but it is important that you explain your techniques and refer to your tools accurately. The clamp that is mounted on your workbench is actually a 'vice,' and I am not saying a naughty deed. I am not a pro, but just anal about spelling and names. Keep up the good work.
Thanks for watching :)
I’m going to build one just like you did. I have plenty of left over cedar boards. By the way, your new shop looks nice !
Thank you so much and that’s great, look forward to seeing your build, please share when done :)
Great job Winnie. There are so many types of birds in my area. This time of year the Purple Martins are so much fun to watch. I had two chasing me today while I was mowing. As I was kicking up the bugs with my mower they were diving and catching the bugs. They are so graceful in flight.
Gotta love the birds that eat all the bugs! Especially if they eat mosquitos 🦟 ! It is nice to see them all flying around, such grace and peace. Thanks for watching :)
Great bird house for a flower meadow.
Sure is, now I need to make a few more :)
Winnie, that's a lot of shop for bird houses! Great to see you putting out videos again. I need to make a few of these over the summer. I have some yellow finches that made a home this spring on a piece of siding that was knocked loose during a storm. Having them around is really nice, but I can't fix the siding until fall!
That is very true 😂 but in all seriousness I needed a project to get me back in swing of things and I have several acres of meadow now that needed some bird houses so it was a win win.
Winnie, today I stepped out onto my porch and the thought struck me that "this is going to be a beautiful day!" So watching video's like yours building things that are going outdoors just puts icing on the cake. I built a bunch of birdhouses including some that look amazingly close to yours and people kept hassling me about missing a perch. I finally bent to the pressure and added one so just beware what may be coming your way. As always I really enjoyed your builds, your video and your smile. 🙃🙂Thanks for Sharing!
I saw someone say not to make a perch because it could attract predators. I'm not a bird expert, so I don't know if that's true or not.
@@jeffp5991 Not an expert either. Interesting. 😗
Thanks for the heads up! I love this time of year where you can work with the shop doors open, and agree that making things for outside to enjoy just makes it so much more awesome.
This looks like a great simple project. We have many song birds in our area and I need to figure out if they prefer a different style of house. Thanks for the video!!!
Your most welcome
I have 5 bird houses in our garden right now, one of them is painted to look like a British Post box (the red ones most see in London) the others are just brown and I made a double one, a friend bought me a red one with feeding table underneath with a saying painted on it, “cats are stupid” Have a great weekend
I like the idea of adding saying to the bird houses.
Yes ALWAYS ALWAYS insulate before ANYTHING else. Cause now you know what problems you will have to go thru. When I got my new shop, I put everything in the middle and had to do one wall at a time then move all the machines 3 or 4 times until I finished the insulation. Then I surface mounted all my electrical on the surface of the new walls. Ron USCG RET
Yup it is a mistake that will suck to rectify. Live and learn ;)
Awesome new shop! TY for another great Project!
My pleasure, and thanks 😊
About to share your project on one of my woodworking Facebook group pages. 👍🏻 man is asking for an easy, functional project. This fits!
@@stephenmoore2561awesome thanks for sharing!
The new shop is looking great 👍
Thank you so much.
I am getting back into woodworking as a hobby. Simple projects are perfect for me to get back into it. Thank you.
My pleasure, I look forward to seeing your bird house :)
How would you customize your bird house and for what kind of bird?
I like the chicken one thumbnail
Thanks for the feedback. I am always trying new things to engage with my audience. Some times they are home runs and sometimes I strike out swinging:) Onwards and upwards.
Your shop is looking great. I wish I had that much space🤗 even though the garage doors got in the way of your planned lighting... Them being insulated will come in handy👍
Yes I sure hope so too, anything to keep the heat in the shop.
Wearing a dust mask when drilling concrete. The dust is very bad for the lungs. And I agree white color on walls ceiling would brighten things. And could frame and insulate walls and might be able to use electrical box extensions and flush mount plugs switches ect. Would have to check with electrical code in your area.
Thanks for sharing
