DIY Paludarium How To Update

This video is the life of the paludarium since I built it. Paludariums offer the best of both worlds having a aquarium and land section creating an amazing ecosystem. My original idea was to do this video a little differently. But I ended up having to move it for an upcoming large build in the reptile room. So, I had to tear down parts of the enclosure and reassemble it. I'll go over some of th...

Bioactive Paludarium Vivarium Tips & Tricks DIY Naturalistic Build
Yo! Love watching huge builds like this and finally got my hands on a 5x2x6 for my leucistic ball python. I’m taking a lot of inspiration from this build hope you don’t mind, but I was wondering what kind of heat mat you’re using? haven’t been able to find a good one that would be reliable on the inside of an enclosure as mine is made from wood. Thanks!
number 2 is perfect for me!
I didn’t realize you had pixelated the image, I dead ass thought “Huh he gave his reptile a Minecraft theme. How strange.”
@@allpowerfulmitochondria759 🤣😂🤣 maybe that will be my next build 🤘💯🤘
too cool bro, like a pro!
@diegoennio thanx bro! 🤘💯🤘
日本語字幕をお願いします!
I'm not sure how to do that. I think it's in your youtube settings.
monitor lizards are NOT dinosaurs.
@jesuschrist5294 correct Lanthanotus Borneensis is not a dinosaur & it's also NOT a monitor lizard. The Lanthanotus borneensis, also known as the Bornean earless monitor lizard, is not classified as a true monitor lizard (genus Varanus). Instead, it belongs to its own family, Lanthanotidae. Hope this helps 🤘 💯 🤘
Awesome setups
@JEREMIELEE yeah the are! 🤘💯🤘
I looks amazing! Allow me to ask a couple of questions... how thick are the PVC sheets? And the bottom is only PVC, right? Thank you very much!!
@ricardonunosantos6994 Thank you! The pvc sheets are half inch thick. I got them from Home Depot, menards, or Lowes. Yes, the bottom is also pvc. I did add a floating 5/8 thick piece of plywood on the bottom for extra support. Hope this helps 🤘 💯
What is that epoxy putty you used? Can't really tell what you said when you named it.
@@HorseCuhm polygem zoopoxy 307 lite. I have all ne needed links for the epoxy and thickening agent in this video. ua-cam.com/video/E9RIR0qE_q0/v-deo.htmlsi=g-CYJ3NCapsBShBr
Amazing! Thank you 😊
@@bonniehiggins8811 🤘💯🤘
Hello, love this, where can I get PVC sheets for a good price?
@kentrahollins7506 thank you and it depends on what state you're in. Some regions do t sell it. Good places to check are Home depot, Lowes (link in description of the hardscape to this build) Facebook marketing place. Custom sign shops. Lumber yards. Hope this helps
Are you using “4 ft. X 8 ft. X 0.030 in. White High Impact Polystyrene HIPS Sheet” from Home Depot? If not will that work? Planning on starting this in a week so I hope I hear back from you.
I'm using Veranda 8x4x1/2 from home depot. Its about $98 a sheet. Here is the link. www.homedepot.com/p/1-2in-x-48-in-x-8-ft-White-Reversible-PVC-Sheet-H120AWS6/205309788 Hope this helps
@ it does I see now why the ones I was talking about won’t work. Too thin. Thanks for answering. One more question. Where did you get that black tub you used for the bowl?
@@bradsbioactivebuilds says out of stock and can’t be ordered. That’s my luck though. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated
@jamessorsby7419 yeah, .30 would be to thin. I got cement mixing tub from home depot in the cement aisle. They have a few different sizes. I got the biggest one that had a smooth bottom so I could attach the drain. I think it was around 30 bucks
@jamessorsby7419 what state are u in? Some states/ regions don't carry it. But if u have a Lowes or Menards they carry it to
Everyone can do lol
@WatchThatFast where there is a will, there is a way 🤘💯🤘
Oh he’s gorgeous!!!
Thank you, truly an amazing animal!
I was wondering if there’s a specific PVC you use because I know PVC can be toxic if heated up to a point
@destinydrawz2111 correct, it can start to off gass around 200 degrees. As close to the light, I can get with a temp gun it reads 102F. I use Veranda from home depot. Hope this helps.
Is clay kinda the same thing
@EdieJenson not really, this is an epoxy molding clay. It hardens and holds it shape
Cannot find PVC sheet anywhere. Located in Waco Texas
@shaneweaver2539 if home depot, lowes or menards doesnt have it, try Facebook marketplace, custom sign shops, lumber yeards or plastic shops. They usually know it as expanding pvc foam board. Hope this helps
Pretty sweet. I think a vine and branch forest like canopy blanketing the ceiling would hide some of your fixtures and tie it all together. 👌
@@bruceblackthorne love the idea
how far does one gallon of zoopoxy spread
@MichaelRingley it's hard to say, really depends on how thick you add it and what u r going over. I would guess and 18x18x24 if there were no ledges. Hope this helps
@@bradsbioactivebuilds What would was the cost for this build
@@MichaelRingley I'm not sure, definitely a few thousand
Literally the only way you're doing this is if you've got a few weeks of time and a few weeks of overheads to spend on making a UA-cam video
@nathankerridge9914 i agree it does take some time, but when I build this enclosure I was working 60+ hours along with being on call 24/7 unless I was put if the country. I would have built this regardless of youtube content but I enjoy sharing with others some ideas or skills that can benefit our animals. But to be fair this did cost some $ to make. Hope uvlearnef a few tricks even if u don't uses them all! Merry Christmas 🤘💯🤘
Hey Brad! 👋🏾 All of your work and educational information are invaluable to the herp community. Thank you very much! I'd love to see a more detailed process of making the pocket doors. They're so kool! Thanx again!
@KainoaBlackeagle thank you and I'm planing on doing another one in the future, when I do I'll break it down. I'm also working on a video of questions asked over the years, ill add this one to it
Name Suggestion Vader or Obi Wan
@@JediOrder17 love it
Why did you di a 1/2" indention on the glass track trim board? (Just for looks?)
@parkerwhitt1453 correct, just for looks and finished product. Either Having it flush or 1/2 indention would work. Hope this helps 🤘💯🤘
What was the 3 products you used to paint the zoopoxy I heard drylok ---- and paint lol and that all you don’t have to seal after the paint just make sure the zoopoxy dry before painting right ??
@4g63turboking8 correct. I use drylok only for the texture and look when it drys. Then arts and crafts matte acrylics. Send me a message on IG or Patreon and I'll send u a pic of the ones I use. Hole this helps! 🤘💯🤘
@4g63turboking8 I do wait minimum 10 days for the drylok to fully cure before adding water. I also tried a new method in this video using a spray bottle with black paint to make it look even more weathered
@@bradsbioactivebuilds I texted you on instagram
What is the cost of this build?
I'm not entirely sure to be honest
Jupiter!
🤘💯🤘
Would this be a good option for a boa constrictor?
Going natralistc in my opinion is always a good move for most animals. 🤘💯🤘
I would love to make an 8x4x4 enclosure for my red tail, but I'm having a difficult time finding pvc boards. Any plywood you would recommend to be ok with multiple coats of drylock.
You can use a hard wood 5 ply plywood or birch wood. You can seal the inside with polygem 2 part epoxy. It's easy to use and will help keep the wood from rotting due to humidity.
What kind of animal are u putting in?
Awesome enclosure for chameleon he looks happy he's thriving colors are glowing. Best one yet.
@@wilsoncaban1580 thank you! 🤘💯🤘
You do such amazing work, Brad. Love it!

Hi! Is there a way you’d be able to add the names & the links to all the products you’ve used? I want to make sure everything I use will be safe for my beardie 🩷
@remydavis2292 i used to do that in all of my videos, u can find most of the links there. If there is a specific one I can look share with u. The problem is some links have changed and are no longer valid. So as time goes on its hard to keep up with them. But everything I have used is animal safe if that helps. It's good u are taking precautions for your beardie 🤘💯🤘
Thank you! I will definitely continue to look for the names in your other vids. I PMed you on Instagram as well if you have time to look at it.
Can my columbian boa go in this
@@melvinspicer4346 yup, send him over!
Beginner friendly huh? Idk about that
@Theknight822 all in the eyes of the builder I guess. My goal was to show a simple way to create something nice that won't fail over time. Feel free to DM me on Instagram and I can help you through the process if needed. 🤘💯🤘
Sorry if I sounded rude, I didn’t mean it like that. I’m just mad I don’t have money to make this lol
@Theknight822 💚
where do you buy the pvc sheet from
@AHLive215 i get them locally at home depo, Lowes or menards. Custom sign shops and plastic suppliers sell them to
What kind of wood you recommend or what can i do to the wood to help prevent it from rotting due to humidity? I want to build one similar to your ackie enclosure
@tonynolimit I would use a hard wood 5 ply plywood or birch wood. U can seal the inside with polygem 1618 2 part epoxy. Very easy to use. Check out my nest box video for more details on these products and material Hope this helped!
What's the best glue for the glass tracts and for pvc sheets?
@parkerwhitt1453 i use 100% silicone ment for plastics or some other stuff (im forgetting the name atm) but I use it in the huge vivarium series I did last year. I think it's in part 4 order 5. Hope that helps
How long will that Corrugated plastic handle with out all the foam
@docshotyou4438 I'm not sure, I haven't tried it without. The foam also helps keep it all in place too. Hope that helps
Love the work, where do you get your PVC board??
@Eric87J I get them from home depo, Lowes or menards
By chance do you know anyone in the hobby producing CBB quince monitors? I’d like to try to find a CBB over a farm hatch. Thought maybe you could point me in the right direction as you seem to know quite a few of the monitor keepers. Thanks
@@Rscmgw23 currently atm i do not. I can ask around
I’m going to build a background inside an all-glass vivarium and want the foam sides attached to the glass to be black. Is there any solid black foam board that is animal safe, or would you just use the pink XPS and paint it black?
@@mattslev no that I'm aware of. I would just plaint or use a vinal wrap for the sides
Awesome video. Your builds are amazing. I’ll be making smaller scale ones in the future. Keep making these videos.
@AnimalJeff-lh7fh thank you, have fun with your next project!
Awesome video! I love watching builds like this. I’ve subscribed to your channel. It gives me inspiration for my new channel. Keep making great videos!
@AnimalJeff-lh7fh thank you and glad I can offer some inspiration!
Fantastic video! You were very detailed and thorough, it's much appreciated. I'll definitely be coming back and rewatching it once I have the materials to build a new enclosure for my beardie. :) Quick question: Is there any concern about the PVC offgassing anything harmful?
I'm glad u enjoyed the video. PVC (veranda the one i yse) will start to offgass at 200-260f. I have done step checks with a heat gun and on the ceiling directly above the internal light mount it reads at 102f and my basking spot is at about 135f. Hope this helps 🤘💯🤘
If this is a beginner level paludarium, im scared to see the advanced levels!
@AceOfSpadesX you're in luck, i got the perfect playlist for you 🤣 ua-cam.com/play/PLljrDroUqKvWeHioUWupgkLhA0CD9LpV7.html&si=AqpEZ7iodCoShv7h my current project. 8x4x6 paludarium. But in all seriousness, there are a lot of steps, but they are all fairly simple once you get started. I really wanted to shed some light on making the water land divider water tight. This is where I see a lot of people take shortcuts, and a few months down the road, they have leaks that flood and waterlog the substrate. Hope this helps 🤘💯🤘
god your voice is horrible. That mic is like nails on a chalkboard.
