    My God man, this effort is unbelievable, and all for a freakin' lizard, lol. Joking aside, this is truly like no other build I have seen. The framing - I wish my house was this good. BTW, if this build was done at my house, the last step would be, "fix the corner where my dog chewed.."

      @@bradsbioactivebuilds Well, you definitely make it look WAY easier than it is! I'm working on mine now and struggling with the spray foam. I officially hate the stuff! Is there any reason you can't just use the lexel adhesive to put the shelves on and then spray foam the cracks?

    • @bradsbioactivebuilds
      @bradsbioactivebuilds  9 місяців тому +1

      @Snake_Therapy that depends, what are u using to go over the xps board and spray foam?

    • @Snake_Therapy
      @Snake_Therapy 9 місяців тому +1

      @@bradsbioactivebuilds drylok. I’ve been doing things how you did in this vid, but I find I really dislike using spray foam- messy, hard to control, and doesn’t cut nicely with the hot knife! This has been quite an endeavor and expense and I didn’t feel ready to go the next step with that other product you used, but now I totally see the value in that stuff.

    • @bradsbioactivebuilds
      @bradsbioactivebuilds  9 місяців тому +1

      @Snake_Therapy spray foam can get messy, best bet is to spray it slowly. It's easier to control and cures more dense. What animal are you building the enclosure for?

      Thank you and I'm lovin the zoopoxy!. I see what you are saying with the waterfall. But I wanted to controll the water and not create different paths for it to flow. Plus the reptile that's going in it I did want him to climb or sit in it either and have him direct the water away from the Reservoir. But.... now that it's done I see how I could have removed the square look and still made it function how I wanted it to. The cool thing about building is always growing and learning new tricks for the next one.

      How about a cave gecko? Thinking the hard scape would possibly be similar? Maybe don’t need to worry about heating or light as much as possibly keeping it cool and damp?
      Btw, I like the stalactites, but they’re formed in nature where water drips from the roof of the cave and slowly build up sediment over time, so wouldn’t it be interesting if they played a part in the water fixture somehow…?

      I did think about adding a small pump in the water for the stalactites, but for what I'm putting in the enclosure, it would have collected too much bacteria in the hose from him pooping in the water.
      Maybe in another build I'll try that where the poop won't be an issue in the water. But I'm glad you like them!

    This is absolutely incredible! I really appreciate the detailed information for each step you are doing and why you are doing it. I have a couple of questions about the last part of the video, if you don't mind. What kind of paint did you use? Did you have to use a sealant over the paint, or is the paint itself waterproof and durable enough to withstand the moisture and wear without sealant?

      Thank you Jennifer, glad you enjoyed part 2 of the series and appreciate the work I put into explaining each step to the best of my ability.
      I used drylok with quikrete mixed into if for my base coat and majority of the brown dry brush. (Make sure you rinse well if you use quikrete mixed in. It has a light resin that plants don't like). After that, the multiple colors of paint on the plate are regular acrylic paints (matte color) that you would find at hobby lobby. They work great, and no sealer needed once fully dried. I have a friend, Mike (mikes monitors), who use them inside a paludarium for his monitors with no issues.

      @@bradsbioactivebuilds So that folkart acrylic paint is completely animal safe correct? Even if I apply the acrylic paint straight on without sealing it with anything or without mixing in with dry lock, for example? You don’t have to worry about flakes of the paint chipping off overtime in a high humidity environment and scrubbing/cleaning peeling the paint or flaking it at all and the animals ingesting it because Once the acrylic paint dries it hardens to the epoxy and basically never comes off is what you’re saying?
      Is this acrylic paint also safe enough to use in the inside portion of a water dish that I want to make, or is adding paint to that not a good idea?
      There’s another brand of paint I was looking at called ecos paint and its supposedly animal safe but you need to buy a quart at a time and it’s pretty expensive and the one that says it’s for higher humidity and Reptile enclosures is not a matte finish. so I was just wondering how the folk art acrylic paint kind of compares to something like that. Folkart brand seems good but i just wanted to ask about the safety of it in your opinion especially when used without being sealed or without being used as a tint for the drylock
      Also wondering, does the epoxy have a realistic kind of rock like texture to it or does it dry pretty smooth? If I wanted that more gritty texture is that where the drylock comes into play, that’s where you would tint the dry lock with the acrylic paints and do it that way? The original dry is safe for animals as well correct, I’ve heard some people say otherwise but I just wanted to get your opinion on it as well, I mean, you must think so considering you’re using it on your project but just checking

    • @bradsbioactivebuilds
      @bradsbioactivebuilds  7 місяців тому +2

      @Snake_Eyes13 great questions. Yes, the folk works great, has not chipped or cone off, and is water will not wash it off after drying. I was just over by my fried Mike's with Mike's Monitors this past weekend, and his 7 year old paludarium (8x4x6 for mertend monitors) still looks amazing both the paint. The other paint you mentioned is good but honestly the regular folk is just as good in my opinion
      The zoopoxy is a putty so when it goes on it can be smooth. But if you wait a little bit for it to start to heat up you can texture it with a wet natural sea sponge to make it look more rock like.

      Thanx Joseph, I'm glad you find them inspiring! It's hard to say how long it takes, but I cut my 1st peicebif wood on January 13th. But I also work full time, have a lot of community involvement, and run a non-profit foundation. So I built these in my spare time. Also, setting up camera angles, editing footage, and getting it all "youtube ready" takes some time. But I think if I could do it 8 hours a day 5 days a week it would take about 2 months. Thanx for the question, and sorry for the unknown answer, lol. It is a fun build to do.
      Thanx for watching!

    so the zoopoxy is water tight, then there isn't a reason to use drylok, right? I'm looking to build something, not that big but half that and I want it to hold about 50 gallons on the bottom as a pond

    • @bradsbioactivebuilds
      @bradsbioactivebuilds  Рік тому +1

      Yeah, there's no need to drylok. I only used drylok over the zoopoxy to match my other enclosures. I could have used acrylic paint instead. But I like the sand granuals in the drylok. It held water for 72 hours, no problem with the zoopoxy alone. Are you going to cover the bottom of the enclosure with zoopoxy too?

      I usually go to homedepo for mine. They have different thickness depending on how deep and how much carving you want to do.

      Thanks! How much Zoopoxy did you use for the project? Also is it strong? Like if I built a rock wall like you did for an escape room do you think it would stand up to humans leaning against it etc?

    • @bradsbioactivebuilds
      @bradsbioactivebuilds  Рік тому +1

      @ExitGameOC I used just about 20 gallons, but I went heavy in some spots. The stuff is super strong. Better than concrete. I can sit on the ledges with no issues. So I definitely think it would hold up. Send polygem a message. Tabitha should reach out to you to give you better details than I can. They are super friendly and great to work with. Let them know I sent ya.

    That zoopoxy stuff looks great. If I got 2 gallons of it, would 1 quart of thickening agent do the job? Or do I need more?

    • @bradsbioactivebuilds
      @bradsbioactivebuilds  Рік тому

      Zoopoxy is amazing! It all depends on how much you are trying to cover. I think 1 qt would work but a gallon of thickening agent is only like 20 bucks.

      @DraconisMarchVII this build took just under 20 gallons. But I went heavy in some spots as I was learning the material. Plus with all of the carving I did I had some waste when applying the zoopoxy. If I were to do it again I don't know if I would have carved the background as much but instead I would have added sprayfoam in spots if that makes sense.

    Awesome job!!!
    Weird question though: would there be anything that I could use as a substitute for Drylock for painting over the background? I've been concerned to use that because it's Latex based and I live with people that have Latex allergies.

    • @bradsbioactivebuilds

    Will the insulation board and foam hold under the weight of a 10ft boa?

    • @bradsbioactivebuilds
      @bradsbioactivebuilds  Рік тому +2

      I is surprisingly strong how if you install the way I did. Dilling holes in the xps and using spray foam to attach. For example I was able to use a few gallons of water (gallon weights 8.34lbs) and it held fine. After I added the zoopoxy I was able to sit on the ledge on the right side. Now I'm not trying to temp fate but it will most definitely hold a 10lbs. Snake.
      Hope this helps
