      I’m cutting the pvc and keep getting the fumes smell!! Is this an indication I’m melting the plastic and not cutting ?? The start of the cut is clean but I just want to make sure I’m doing it right before moving forward.

    Brad.......Outstanding F#$@% Job. Purchased a nelson milk snake last year for our son, got the zoo med 40 gallon starter aquarium. Mad because Bob the snake didn't make it. Lesson learned what not to purchase for snakes. Stores should sell a snake enclosure, just for snakes (Only Snakes)!!! Since HEAT RISES/HUMIDITY RISES and escapes through the top of the tank don't freaking buy it. The tank needs to be fully enclosed on the top, left and right sides and bottom. I'm a carpenter and this video makes me want to build this enclosure without purchasing another snake and then tell the wife (Well, I built the top of the line enclosure, might as well purchase another snake for the kids). She can never say no to the kids....hehehehe.
    Do not purchase any reptile unless you build this DIY enclosure. You can always build in steps and add on as needed.
    Once again H##LL of a job. So jealous.

      Couldn't agree more about some of the info from big pet store chains. The seel wjat they can move not move what needs to be sold. That sucks about your milk snake Bob. Hope you build one and enjoy knowing you made it to Suite the animals needs. Plus it's a good reason to get another lol.

      Thanx bro!
      It's 1/2 found at home depo, Lowes, or manards. I double up the front frame where I attach the glass track so the track fits and addsstrength to prevent bowing. The pvc is light enough so the front frame does the trick while eliminating a vertical center brace right in the middle of the glass.

    Can you make a video explaining the process of how you make the slots for the glass so it’s held in and able to slide open and closed?

    • @bradsbioactivebuilds
      @bradsbioactivebuilds  Рік тому +4

      I can with a future build.
      But the "slots" is just a glass track I got on Amazon (link at the end of this post).
      After I have the front frame installed (doubled up pvc board to make it 1" thick). I measure the opening where the glass is going to go before I install the glass track.
      Then, install the glass track with silicone, holding it in place with painters tape. I take the leftover glass track (I had 1" cut-off) and brought it to a glass shop. Gave them the measurements of the opening and the cutoff glass track. They did all the math (around 1/4" less than opening.) And cut the glass. I used 1/4" tempered glass.

    Your videos are top notch and you have helped me move towards building my own, only question is on this one you have the side as 4' x 23 1/2"...since using half inch pvc shouldn't that be 23" to allow for the half inch on each side or am I missing something??

      @bradsbioactivebuilds  11 місяців тому

      Thank you, I put a lot of work into the videos to try and explain everything to the best of my ability. I'm glad it has helped you move towards building your own.
      To answer your the sides are 23 1/2". Everything site on top of the bottom panel that measures 6'L x 24"d.
      So when I put my back panel on it will reduce the side panels by 1/2" (4'h x 23 1/2" deep) to compensate for the 1/2" thickness of the pvc sheet. The 1st few minutes of my Chameleon enclose build shows building an enclosure to that might be helpful too.

    only complaints about this build is the lack of pvc glue on the plumbing and on the panels, pvc glue is made for plumbing and retaining water in pvc pipes, you could have skipped siliconing the inside seams if you had glued them with pvc glue, or put the silicone in anyway and been double safe. also just because the drywall screws come in a 1000 pack doesnt' mean you need to use them all.

    • @bradsbioactivebuilds
      @bradsbioactivebuilds  Рік тому

      Agreed to a point. Ias contemplating using pcv glue, but want to be sure if I would be able to work quickly enough before glue fused together. So I went with lexel adhesive (paintable) where water would sit. Then, I applied drylok or xps board over that. But I've been thinking about working real fast and use pvc glue on an upcoming build.
      For the plumbing, yes pvc glue would work great, but I was thinking of the future and when I move, the silicone will be easier to remove so I can put the enclosure flat.

    How did you get the glass into the tracks after the tracks were installed? Also, the glass tracks are held in place with just silicone? Strong?

    • @bradsbioactivebuilds
      @bradsbioactivebuilds  Рік тому

      The top track has a longer insert/lip. The bottom track has a smaller lip. I measure the gap between the front opening before I install the glass track. Then, cut the track to fit the length. (I keep the cut extra track to bring to the glass shop and give them my opening measurements without the track installed. Any local glass shop will do). Yes, silicone works great. I found the best one is at Home Depo by the plexiglass & acrylic section. It comes in a white and red tub. It's 100% silicone. And if it wasn't this wouldn't really matter to much once cured bc it's pretty much out of the enclosure.) Then just lay the track into place and use painters tape to hold it in place for 24 hours.
      Then, just lift the glass into the top track and have it drop (gently) into the bottom track. The lip on the top keeps it into place.

    • @bradsbioactivebuilds
      @bradsbioactivebuilds  9 місяців тому +1

      There are ways to go all out with this build or cut costs. Example using g 1/4 inch tempered glass, not tempered glass or plexiglass. Tempered is you best option for scratching and strength.
      Pvc board is more expensive then ply wood. Depending on what lights you use, Amazon or arcadia
      But a quick break down off the top of my head
      3 sheers of PVC 100 each
      Tempered glass lass $200
      3 Light domes (20 each)
      Wood for stand (40-50 bucks)
      Screws $9
      Lexel Adhesive $12
      Glass track $40
      Bulkhead for drainage $7
      If you start doing hardscape stuff it's then the cost is ul to you on what you want to add.
      Hope this helps.
