I review high-quality beauty options suitable for sensitive mature skin.
The goal is to help women like me to find makeup and skincare that will help them look a bit fresher (and maybe even a bit younger), without causing any irritation.
I am age 60; have dry sensitive skin; and have not had any cosmetic procedures such as surgery or injections.
I usually favor quick makeup looks that take 5-10 minutes to complete.
I've researched and used more than a thousand beauty products during the past three years.
I omit products that contain irritating ingredients like synthetic fragrance or chemical sunscreen, but otherwise seek out options from a wide variety of higher-end brands.
My videos show the products up close in natural light, without the use of filters.
In my former life, I worked as a marketing professor and consultant, and before that as a journalist.
My Ph.D. is in marketing from Northwestern University.
Thanks much for visiting my channel and subscribing!

Beautiful pallet and I appreciate the review you gave.
I loved your video, very detailed and easy to understand.
Agreed on the One Size foundation. I like it but I have to mix 15R and 20N to get the perfect shade.
That is so frustrating to have to mix shades like that! I still really like the Makeup By Mario SurrealSkin foundation but the only way that it does not look wrong on me is to mix two different shades, which is definitely a lot of extra annoyance. ❤
I’m so jealous that you can wear the RMS Jayne color and look great in it! I have all the RMS nude lipsticks except that color, because it looks like concealer on my lips, unfortunately. I love that formula!
I didn't think that would be a good lipstick color for me either, but I decided to purchase all the nude shades just because I liked the formula so much and was surprised that it actually worked for me! ❤
As always - a terrific video. I am interested in watching your skin tint video next. Happy New Year!
I'm so happy to hear that you liked the video! Happy New Year to you too! ❤
I noticed that side of your face right away! Thank you so much for doing this 🙏🏻
Hi Lisa, Wonderful review. So many foundations on the market making it difficult to decide which one to buy. I am currently using Bare Minerals Complexion Recue with a light layer of powder to set. I also have the Huda Miracle Blur and I like it. Next foundation for me to try will be Jones Road. I ordered 2 of the complexion sticks, the face pencil, and the brow pencil and a mini miracle balm was free gift. Good products, I am still experimenting with them. Enjoy the holiday season!!!
I still think that the Jones Road WTF foundation makes me look better than any other foundation that I have tried, in terms of subtracting maybe 5 years or more from my apparent age. I just wish that it didn't have those essential oils in it since my skin does not like them. For those who are not bothered by the essential oils and who are maybe 50+, I do think it may be worth trying though! I do suggest using either the Jones Road powder or maybe the new Nars setting spray or Makeup By Mario setting spray with it though. I'm glad their other products have worked for you so far. Please report back on whatever else you try! ❤
A note about the Sarah Creal lipsticks: I realized that the reason that these lipsticks have a distinctive scent/taste is because they include ethylene brassylate, with is a synthetic musk fragrance that was developed by DuPont in the 1940's for use in the perfume industry. This ingredient also is included in the recently released Victoria Beckham pen concealer, which I liked a lot except that the smell was unpleasant to me and started to give me headaches if I used it more than occasionally. The Sarah Creal lipsticks also have proven to be increasingly annoying to me if I use them more than very occasionally and so I have personally given up on them. I will say that the one that I have does look very nice on my lips, however. ❤
I saw one review of the Tom Ford foundation where the reviewer found it a great disappointment compared to the older formulation. She lives in a humid climate. I also saw one review by someone in a dry climate who found it to be just as good as the older one. I used to want to try the older version, but I'm definitely not trying the newer more expensive one.
I've only found a handful of UA-camrs who have reviewed that foundation and I'm not sure that any of them thought that it was worth that high price. TF really has jumped the shark with those prices, I think. However, I have had such good experiences with the Tom Ford products that I have tried (stick concealer, lip liner, dewy blush/highlighter) that I'm a little open to giving a few more products a try if the ingredient lists look okay. So we shall see! ❤
@ I do live in a dry climate but I generally avoid luxury makeup as I dislike scented makeup, and most luxury makeup contains perfume. I made the mistake of buying the Dior foundation stick this year everyone raved about and found that not only was it too perfumed for my liking, but I didn’t like how it performed. I prefer the cheaper unscented Basma foundation stick.
Super detailed! 🙏 Thanks!
I'm really glad to hear that you liked the video! ❤
You are adorable! I just found your channnel and am hooked!!! Thank you for this wonderful video and for sharing your experience! Love&Light from California 🤍🤍
Thank you so much for your nice comment! I'm really happy that you found the channel and am looking forward to your comments here in the future. ❤
Great video - thank you for putting this together. Of your list, I’ve only tried/own the About-Face foundation and I love it. Fenty matched my light olive skin but dried me out; i’m glad that they came out with the new more moisturizing version of the soft focus filter foundation, but the price point is too high for me right now and so I was able to find that About-Face had a great shade range that encompassed my neutral-olive skin and is light enough for day but also buildable. I’m very much wanting to try the RMS SunCoverup SPF foundation but I’m waiting to see if they have half off of it during their anniversary sale next summer.
I'm really glad to hear that the About Face product has been working for you! I do think that the RMS product may be a good one to wear in the summer and so maybe before then they will have a good sale on it. Thanks for sharing your experiences! ❤
Great reviews! I cannot use anything with Linalool, Limonene or Geriol...drives my skin mad and it's in alot of products
One thing that I have found over time is that I do react to a lot of botanically derived fragrances (such as some essential oils) as well as to synthetic or petroleum-derived ones. But it also is the case that "natural" fragrances such as linalool, limonene and geraniol often are created synthetically, and so that could be another reason that they can be annoying. With the Prada foundation, my skin was so terribly irritated that I am suspecting the chemical sunscreen (my reactions to scent ingredients tend to be milder). I am thinking that I probably should just avoid products with those ingredients in them entirely, though I did go ahead and order the Tom Ford foundation (which includes linalool and linalyl acetate as well as lavender). So we shall see how I do with that one, I guess. Thanks for sharing your experiences! ❤
I am obsessed with the Tom ford architecture foundation! It’s amazing ! It’s also on sale for $105 on Nordstrom currently ! Happy holidays,Lisa 🕊️🙏🎄
I did order that Tom Ford foundation from Nordstrom at the 30% off discount and so I will look forward to giving that a try. Hopefully my skin will like it. Happy holidays to you too! ❤
@ yay! I cannot wait to see what you think! It’s a beautiful foundation and it stays on all day! If you don’t love it (I’m sure you will) you can always return so easily at Nordstrom Please update what you think of it ! It will looks beautiful on you! 🎄❤️
I'm sure it's a lovely foundation - I just am concerned that my skin will react to the linalool and linalyl acetate fragrance ingredients in it. But I will keep my fingers crossed that it will be okay!
@ I’ll do the same 🙏
I haven't tried any of these brands. I did have at one time an RMS lipstick I don't remember the color or if I liked it. Thanks again for a great video. Hope you and your family had a Merry Christmas & wishing all a healthy happy 2025.
RMS used to have a line of lipsticks that seemed very similar to the MAC matte lipsticks, and so I am wondering if those are the ones that you tried? They have mostly discontinued them, though the "RMS Red" one that Rose Marie Swift herself wears all the time may still be around (probably just because she likes it). I think the current lipsticks were released in late 2023. I do really like them. Happy holidays to you as well! ❤
Great video ! I haven’t tried any . Merry Christmas to you and the fam . Have u tried merits new fragrance? It’s on sale so I’m thinking , I have a sample & it’s good for cold weather !! I have tried Sephora collection some. Liked the tint and New Cica cream , made in France . You can use on face, lips, body. I love it for winter , use it on hands cuticles , lips, face neck , feet . Enjoy the holidays🎁🎁🎁
Oh, that is interesting about the new Cica cream, I hadn't noticed that until now. Especially if you have done well with it, I should try that new skin tint, I think. I did finally get a sample of the Merit fragrance and it does seem better to me than the vast majority of synthetic scents, but in terms of what I am interested in wearing, I do seem to continue to only be liking ones that contain all-natural ingredients. The RMS Scarlet Moon has been absolutely fantastic in my opinion - really my favorite fragrance ever. Expensive but well worth it, in my opinion. Thanks as always for sharing your experiences! ❤
Thanks for the review, very helpful! Happy Holidays! ❤❤
Happy Holidays to you as well!! ❤❤❤
Hi Lisa. I am so glad I found your channel and I am watching my way through all your videos. This is a favourite indeed. About me - I have suddenly become sensitive to skincare and makeup and your channel has helped me navigate a new landscape of clean beauty. I really appreciate that you include ewg information. In addition to some of your recommendations, I have found an american brand that I like and tolerate most products from - Omania. Have you ever considered trying their products?
Great review as usual☺ You are the only person who has spoken about the political messages on the Sarah Creal. I don’t really care for that, so no longer feel bad about not being able to afford her products. Also, I don’t think mature women should need to pay more for quality products that are geared for our skin.
I do think that the whole Sarah Creal line is priced a little higher than seems necessary, but the main problem that I personally am having with the lipsticks is the smell/taste of them, which I realized is caused by the addition of a synthetic musk fragrance note called ethylene brassylate (which was developed by DuPont in the 1940's). That bothered me a little from the beginning, but has become more and more offensive to me the more that I have tried to use that lipstick. Which is too bad because I do think that it looks attractive on me. I have continued to really like the concealer though, and actually don't feel that on a per-ml basis that is terribly overpriced. It will be interesting to see if they come out with anything else that is worthwhile into the future. Thanks much for sharing your thoughts! ❤
@@lisapetrison-beautyreviews that is too bad about the smell. Most fragrances do not bother me, but I try to avoid in case I develop a sensitivity. I’m currently looking for a concealer that won’t settle in fine lines, and has a natural look.
Hi Lisa, thank you for a great video. I have a question. Which do you prefer - the Typology or the Rose Inc? And which of the two has more coverage? Thank you.
For a soft autumn, you look good in a remarkable range of lip color!
Thank you very much! I think there are a lot of lipstick colors that I can't really wear at all though, and a lot of others that I have to really mute down to make them work for me. I'm working on a video about that topic now, actually. ❤
The Golden Pink Palette has been a good product, but I have more neutral/pink undertones. The Rosey Brown Lip and Cheek Tint is a surprise favorite of mine! Based on your review, I may try the Tawny Nude shade. Thanks for your honest reviews.
I'm really glad to hear that those products have been working out for you. Thanks much for reporting back on your experiences! ❤
Thanks Lisa! I tried the face balm and the fragrance in it broke me out and stung my eyes. So never tried any of their other products. I do like the lip and cheek palettes on you, all the colors look good. My favorite was the Mocha, so I might try the lip balm in that color.
Unfortunately both the WTF foundation and the Miracle Balm do have a lot of essential oils in them and have been irritating for me. A lot of their other products really have been inice for me though. Please report back if you decide to try anything on how you to with it. ❤
Thank you for all that you share. I value your input. The only skin tint I have found that doesn't make my skin look worse, is Lisa Eldridge Skin enhancing tint. My skin isn't bad at 62, but moist tints or foundation highlight lines & pores. Not Lisa Eldridge's.
I'm so glad to hear that is working for you! Thank you very much for sharing your experiences here. ❤
Thanks for the update on Jones Road! I was hoping they would have an amazing holiday deal so I could try their brow pencils, but I didn't see anything compelling, and I hate to pay shipping for one item. I probably need to go ahead and just place an order, because the brow pencils sure sound unique. It seems to me most brow products are made for people who already have decent brows, but the Jones Road ones appear to be different and look like they'll work great for someone with nonexistent brows like me! Maybe I need to order multiple brow pencils to satisfy the shipping fee, in faith that I'll absolutely love them! Thank you for what you frequently say about how you like to apply foundation with your fingers, as you believe using a brush from the get-go wastes product. I'm sorry, makeup artists, but this technique of "loading the brush" wastes a lot of product! The reason the foundation looks barely there and natural when you load the brush is because 80% of the foundation just got absorbed into the brush!!! LOL
They really seem determined not to ever have any sales at all there, except occasionally on sets during the holiday season. I do think that their shipping minimum is really steep though, especially for both people who are buying for the first time and for people who have purchased really large amounts of stuff from them already. I do think the brow pencil has been fantastic for me, and the brow gel is also best in category in terms of making my sparse brows look a lot better. ❤
@@lisapetrison-beautyreviews OK, that’s good to know that about the brow gel too! I will check their website again and see if there’s anything else I’m interested in now. I would want to try their lipsticks if I weren’t already up to my eyeballs and lipsticks!😂 Maybe someday they will be offered somewhere that would make the brand a little more accessible!
@@jjjjk1241 They were at Credo for a year as a "pop-up" but then removed it all as soon as the year was up when they started building their own stores. I wonder how their stores are doing and if they are going to open more of them. Apparently BB has concluded that cosmetic company profits tend to get totally wiped out by retailer margins and sales, and that she is going to do everything possible not to fall into those traps. And I can't say that I disagree with that strategy, in terms of building a company that will be profitable in the long-term without needing to sell out to a big conglomerate. They do seem to be really good about taking products back if people don't like them, and so I would suggest going ahead and using that option if you buy things that don't make you happy, though! ❤
@@lisapetrison-beautyreviews thank you; that helps! Wish the WTF was available in a mini to try. I’ve been wanting to try it, but I’m hesitant to since some people have said it’s irritating. But if they are very good about taking returns and I have that to fall back on, maybe I’ll try it.
@@jjjjk1241 I think that especially for the WTF, they are planning that a lot of people are going to return it and they bring their return policy up prominently in their UA-cam ads about it. In general, the generous return policy is one of the best things that Estee Lauder has going for it, and I am sure that they have researched the heck out of that and concluded that it is in their best interest financially to make that available to people. And that BB has seen those numbers and that that is why a good return policy is so integral to JR as well. And all the reports that I have gotten do suggest that they make it easy to return things if necessary. If anyone reading this has had any problems with a return to them, please do let us know though!
I love Jones Road products & have almost everything they make. I think the bronze & pink look great on you. I said it in a past video how healthy & shiny your hair looks. Whatever your doing keep doing.
Thanks so much for your nice comment! I feel like the main issue with my hair is that it is seeming really thin - I wonder if that is just because when I broke my arm, my body diverted all the collagen that it was making to fix my arm and started ignoring my hair? I do need to figure out what to do about that though. Thanks very much for your kind support! ❤
I think both the pink and bronze colors look good with your skin tone. Try Merit mascara looks very natural even in black and is tubing and stays on.
I do like the Merit mascara a lot and agree that it looks quite natural. I do think that it's quite similar to the Caliray mascara, and since I have a lot of minis of that, I haven't bought the Merit all that often and so don't talk about it that much, I guess. I do like it though! Thanks much for your comment! ❤
Super nice review! Thank you!
Thanks so much for your comment! ❤
I’ve still not tried JRB . These look great for winter on my paler by the day face! Will need to try . Thx Lisa . Happy holidays! 🎁🎁🎁
Happy holidays to you too!! ❤
Love the organization of how you present the products on your face and ingredients you avoid. Very nice and convenient!
Oh great, I'm so happy to hear that! ❤
Lisa, my name is Lisa. I am 72 and just finished a year and a half of active treatment for breast cancer. I basically only had control of my skin and face during treatment, I have been loving Charlotte Tilbury Beautiful Skin which is dewey coverage but lightweight and also Charlotte's Unreal Skin Sheer Glow Tint which is less coverage but I like it. I also use Makeup Forever HD foundation for fuller coverage. I almost always use Glossier Future Dew underneath which boosts radiance for everything, even when using Moira Powder Foundation. For sunscreen I use Iris & Romeo, Kosas Dream Beam and Coola. I have to wear a lot of sunscreen as I'm not supposed to go in the sun at all for three years since I did radiation. I love your in-depth reviews.
Thank you so much for sharing the products that have worked for you! I hope that things start to feel more normal for you now after all the recent challenges you have been through. Happy holidays to you! ❤❤❤
Hey Lisa please can I ask u is it possible to open the tube of Dolce Gabbana tint ? Cause I was thinking after it’s finished is it possible to pour another foundation in it 😅
No, unfortunately the nozzle part of that container is permanently attached to the bottom part! Good idea to want to reuse it though.❤
@@lisapetrison-beautyreviewsthank you very much for ur answer 🌸❤️
Thanks, Lisa, for another great vid. I agree that the Typology tinted serum is great. But I also like the Westman Atelier one that you don't. Here's a tip for eyebrows: I FINALLY found a product that's not too dark: e.l.f.'s brow product in Taupe. It's got fuzzy bits in it, too. Their mascara is also brilliant - the same set up as Charlotte Tilbury's, but a fraction of the price, and way easier to put on.
I'd like to know which product from ELF you're talking about - is it a pencil or a tinted brow gel? I'm glad to hear that the Westman Atelier liquid foundation has been working for you! ❤
@@lisapetrison-beautyreviews I checked: the lash thing is called Wow Brow Tinted Gel in Taupe. The mascara is Lash 'n' Roll. There is a brown version but its hard to find. Lisa Eldridge recently did a thing on it. She was impressed. e.l.f. apparently stands for eyes lips and face. Have fun trying them (I think I bought e.l.f. at Ulta last time I was in the US. . .)
I enjoy your comprehensive reviews of products. A dermatologist I follow whose skincare products are approved by the National Rosacea Society recommended Summer Fridays skin tint. This is a vegan, cruelty-free product. It is an excellent moisturizing product that provides a lovely tint I can wear over sunscreen.
I'm so glad that the Summer Fridays skin tint worked for you. I did try that right after it came out and unfortunately found that it irritated my skin. In looking on the Sephora site on the lowest reviews for the product, it does seem like quite a few other people had their skin irritated by it as well, in some cases pretty badly. But I agree with the dermatologists that the ingredient list looks pretty good and so I am still not sure what the issue was for me. I'm sad that that one didn't work for me though. ❤
Do you have one skin tint that is your favorite?
Probably the one that I use most often is the Jane Iredale HydroPure, which improves the look of the texture of my skin and is nice for my skin and makes a nice primer. It doesn't really have much pigment at all in it though. ❤
Hi Lisa, I for one will not be watching any video related to K~Jenners, haha. But I’m really interested in the WA complexion drops, have you tried them and what do you think?
I did purchase the WA Complexion Drops when they were first released. I felt like it exacerbated the look of my wrinkles more than a lot of foundations, especially around my eyes, and I actually noted that being the case when Gucci Westman used it on some older women in the videos as well. I wouldn't say that it irritated my skin to the point where it was unwearable, but I don't feel like my skin liked it all that much, and in looking at the ingredients I do see some things (such as cottonseed oil and soybean oil) that seem likely to have some contamination with glyphosate. So that would be my guess as to why I didn't do better with it. A lot of people do like it though, and I do really like many of the other WA products including the foundation stick. ❤
Thank you for explaining. I also love the stick so I’ll just keep using that.
Really looking for a nice tint to wear for christmas day, this was helpful thanks,🙂
I'm so happy to hear that, Merry Christmas to you! ❤
Hi Lisa - great vid. Thanks. Have you tried anything from e.l.f.? Their mascara is the best, I think (Lisa E also likes it; it's a clone apparently from Charlotte Tilbury at half the price!) plus they have a brow product that finally doesn't look too dark on my fair skin (colour Taupe). It has fluff in it to fluff out skimpy brows.
I like Haus Labs, KVD (for more coverage) and lately have loved Nikol Johnson’s BBCream & her Serum Foundation (Nikol Beauty.) This video was very informative!
Oh, that's interesting about the KVD product. I haven't tried that one, or the Nikol ones, but it sounds like I should! Haus Labs is definitely one of my favorites though. Thanks for sharing what has worked for you. ❤
I really enjoy your videos skincare routine , thank you ❤🎉😊 xx
I'm so glad to hear that! ❤❤
I am thankful for the depth of your reviews, Lisa. I look forward to them. I am drawn to skin tints rather than foundations. I apply tints only where needed, in the T zone and on acne scarring on my neck. The Dolce and Gabbana tint is very flattering to you. Truly undetectable, it's your skin but a bit more refined, which is exactly what a skin tint should do. The RMS SunCoverup is too pale. RMS will match you if you send them a pic without makeup and in good light. 😊
Definitely that RMS SunCoverup shade is too light for me. I wonder if the other shades would be too dark though. Of course, if I bought one of those, then I could mix them together to get an in-between shade, but I don't think that people should have to do that. Thanks much for sharing your thoughts and I am glad that you have been liking this channel!! ❤❤
Hi Lisa! Lovely thorough review/round-up. Here are the foundations I have found make my skin look the best, I've de-cluttered all the others but am always watching your channel for any new gems you dig up for us: Chantecaille gel and tinted moisturizer in the tube; Chanel not the lightest water tint one but the next one up with the beads; Rituel de Fille; Lisa Eldridge skin tint; Kosas foundation (not the one you found irritating); Clinique even better (I think that's the name, the lightweight one); and, I find the Cover Girl one with the beads gives a quite similar result to the Chanel one with the beads (not the water tint); Nars Light Reflecting. I do have some stick foundations but find they always look patchy and heavy on my dry skin so I usually use those for concealer. Thank you for all the hard work and research you do for us, we appreciate it! BTW I have sensitive dry skin also, and my skin tone is similar to yours so I find it easy to rely on your picks for a good match. Happy holidays to ya!
Thank you for sharing your list! I really like almost all of your picks, except for the RDF one which irritated my skin like crazy and the Clinique Even Better (the one in the glass bottle has butyloctyl salicylate in it so I haven't tried that one). I think the Chanel one is called something like Water Fresh Complexion Touch and I do like that one too. That is interesting that you liked the Cover GIrl one - I have heard mixed reports and did pick it up but haven't tried it yet. I will do that soon! ❤
@@lisapetrison-beautyreviews I recall you didn't get on with the RDF ~ neither than or the Clinique one bother me, though I find I can't tolerate ones that have a lot of fragrance in them ~ the fragrance evaporates and stings my eyes. Terrific videos on your channel!
This was so helpful! I would love to see a video about Kylie cosmetics. I like a very light coverage foundation. Lately I’ve been finding myself just using a glowy sunscreen (the RMS one) and throwing on the Tom Ford concealer all over my face as foundation. It’s so quick and easy and perfect!
Thanks much for sharing that information. The Tom Ford concealer is really great. I will work on that Kylie video then! ❤
Great info as always. I am not a fan of the Kardashians...but since you mentioned Coty being in charge, I wouldn't mind a video on Kylie products. Since your review on them were good.
Oh good - I do have a lot of their products and so I will work on that! ❤
I’ve been trying the TirTir Matt foundation. You might want to review that line.
I've heard some good things about those foundations but every time I have looked into them, it has seemed that everything that they have offered has listed "fragrance" on the ingredient list and I do always seem to react when products list that. I do hope that they are working out for. you though! ❤
Thank you for trying so many beauty products so we don’t have to! 😂 Love your channel❤
I'm so happy to hear that - thanks much for watching! ❤
I would be interested in the Kylie video. Great info, as always.
Oh good, I will work on that soon then! ❤
Great video! 👏
Thanks so much, I'm glad. you liked it! ❤
I do enjoy watching you work with red blush! Also, I think it is still a win if you pick up a palette on sale, because your analysis is unique, and it is awesome to let other people know when something is a great deal. Thanks, Lisa!!
Red blush is a trend that I really am liking these days. Thanks much for commenting on the video! I hope you are having a good holiday season! ❤❤❤
And happiest of holidays to you and handsome Cocoa!!
I love doing makeup and your channel has been such a blessing! My grandma only trusts me to do her makeup and no one else, your reviews have helped me so much to understand products and perfect looks!! thank you so much Ms Petrison!
Oh, that is so lovely that that is something that the two of you can do together! I'm really glad that you are finding this channel helpful! ❤❤❤
