This Florida boy was thrown into snow wheeling when I was stationed in Iceland for four years. I had to learn really quick how to drive in the white stuff. I'm talking driving down roads that had snow as high as the hood type of driving. The first trick I learned was to never go fast. Doing so will send you on top of the snow. You will sink down into the snow once you lose your forward momentum....then you are stuck. The second thing I learned was to stay in 2x4 until you get stuck and then shift down to 4x4. If you cruise in 4x4 and get stuck....then you are stuck. I would drive in 2x4...get stuck and then pull myself out using 4x4. The other thing I learned trying to get myself unstuck onetime when I was in 4x4, and the ice slung me off the roadbed into the snow and I bottomed out. We jacked up the Jeep, dug out the snow from under the Jeep for clearance and dug out the deep divots and put rocks in them for traction. I had an idea......put chains on the front to pull me out. IT WORKED!!!!! I left them on the rest of the day and didn't get stuck again. I ended up putting them on back on the base to pull people out when the Rocky Road Four-Wheelers club was called out during massive snowstorms to pull people out. These are the top snow wheeling tricks I learned and live by during the winter. Thanks for the great video.

Just downsized from a 2020 Jeep Gladiator Rubicon to a 2024 CrossTrek Wilderness. First mod will be skid plates. During my research phase, I noticed many popular skid plates are large, restrictive panels with poor ventilation and rather thin aluminum. I feel like skid plates have become more of a cosmetic trend than a form of protection. It’s becoming increasingly more rare to find a solid, functional plate with minimal branding.

You can’t laugh and make fun of the sticks idea… but yea I have had to do this and it worked!! My family and I got two vehicles stuck pulling off the off the road, idiotically, into a muddy area while it was raining. Me and my brother stood there in the rain for a bit trying to figure out what to do. We were not in built rigs, had absolutely no gear, or experience, so I came up with a genius idea to gather sticks and brush from the surrounding bushes and plants.. and I do mean sticks not branches or logs. Put them around all the tires and we got two totally unequipped vehicles out of spinning mud. So yes it is possible, could help in a pinch.

Great Vid. 30 plus years of repairing these ARB Airleakers has pretty much paid off my house. They also (10 + yrs back?) 'standardised' a lot of the locker centres, leading to (in a lot of cases) a much smaller set of side gears/pins etc than what was in the original and earlier ARB centres. Edit - as clean and meticulous as you do the install.... wont help with any bearing /gear material that will (not a matter of if) end up destroying either the 2 quad O'rings or the bigger actuator seal. If there's an option for fitting a TJM ProLocker , go with one of those instead. No centre 'shrinkage,' no O'rings on moving parts.

I've got a 2013 Jeep JK & 2018 Jeep JL, both with Teraflex 60's under them and ARB's F&R, 42" tires, 5:19's and weight about 6000-6200 lbs, I have a 53 Willys CJ3B, 9" rear w/spool, Dana 44 front with Yukon Zip Locker (air), 5:89's, 40" tires, #3400 lbs and a 2000 Toyota 4Runner with rear E-locker and front lunchbox locker. In the last 2 years I've had 4 of the 5 air lockers fail while on the trail and then fail again after repairing them. I carry everything to rebuild one on the trail. The Zip locker is the least reliable of the air lockers. The 3 jeeps have a grand total of maybe 20,000 miles on them. 2 of them are just off road rigs and the JL only has 10K on it. My 2000 4runner is about to pass 330,000 miles, 3.4l, TRD black supercharger on it, URD 7th injector and bunch of mods. I have wheeled the living crap out of this 4 runner, especially the last 3 years or so. It's seen hard abuse for 33" tires. The E-locker in the runner has never failed me, ever. It always works, even after blowing the seal out of the rear axle and running it low on fluid and filled with water on an occasion. It always engages with a little slip of a tire but has never been an issue. A good mechanic can bypass some of the features to get the locker to engage when you want it at any speed in high or low range.
