Hello guys. I’m a veterinarian who teaches trauma care to law enforcement officers who have canine partners. I think your video was excellent. I would add a muzzle because even very nice dogs can bite if they are in extreme pain due to something like a fracture. I also carry a SWAT T tourniquet for my dog because the CAT tourniquets don’t work well on dogs, they slide off. Other than those two points, most things you have learned in your human trauma classes apply to dogs. So pressure wraps, clotting gauze, and chest seals can be carried for yourself and your doggo.
Thanks so much that means a lot from a veterinarian! Thanks for mentioning the muzzle and SWAT tourniquet. I'll add a muzzle to my kit. I've got the tourniquet in my human kit. Thanks!
That’s a great K-9 first aid kit . Having worked as a paramedic after my military retirement. I can say that bag rocks and litter harness is very handy
Thanks appreciate that! It started out as a very small K-9 first aid kit and just kept getting bigger. So, I decided to do a video about it. There's more to the kit I take in the field but I wanted the video to be very basic.
Excellent video WOW! I've been a first responder , Long Beach lifeguard, For 22 years of my life. I'm very impressed with your medical dog information! Solid very informative. 👍👍👍
This is a subject that needs more attention. We seem to go into the field without thinking about the fact that our pets can get injured too. Your first aid kit is perhaps the best I've ever seen. The sling is something everyone should have. For people that aren't ready to go all in, there are also commercially available "starter' pet first aid kits that would be good to have.
This never crossed my mind when it comes to pets out on an adventure. This is my first time seeing that harness, great information, and I learned something new.
Good grief, your dog has way more medical supplies than I have. My first aid supplies are more along the line of Steve's. Many decades ago I was talking to a friend of the family who was by that time 75 years old. He had spent his entire life in the bush hunting, fishing, berry picking and running a trap line. I asked him what he carried in his first aid kit and he replied he never carried one. I then asked what he did when he hurt himself. His response was "When you are in the back country, don't hurt yourself". In other words, everytime you pick up a knife or axe, or go to step over a log, etc. you must pay attention. This was in the day before cell phones, GPS sat messengers or sat phones.
Definitely important to know. While it's admirable that you've packed something for Steve's heart, you're making the assumption that he has one. Good luck. :))
Thank you for covering this important topic. A lot of people take their dogs with absoultely no first aid items at all. At least a basic, dog-specific first aid kit is a very good idea to include when you travel with your dog. Thanks!
I won't lie, I wasn't expecting this video to be so serious. I've gotten used to seeing videos full sarcastic humor and brotherly jabs but this one had tons of really useful techniques and advice. Then you still managed to get a few quips in for good measure haha. Nice video
@@OverlandPNW Thanks for watching! Yeah we do a mix of group rides and solo trips. Since we still don't have a winch we definitely have to play it safe when we're alone. The groups are a great way to try harder stuff, learn some new trails, and meet new people. My next video will have some more challenging parts and multiple winching recoveries. Cheers!
Greetings to you, my dearest friend. Absolutely Amazing work. Well done. Keep it up. Undoubtedly thumbs up. Thanks. Gorgeous day. With respect and full support, musician Yuriy Saliy.
I think you should add a de-wormer to the kit. Not for the dog, but for yourself. Considering where the dog licks itself prior to giving you kisses, that could be a really important piece of kit.
I never thought of building a first aid kit for Bawb but after watching this video, I think he will be getting his own, I do have that same pack for carrying Bawb out if he gets hurt him. Are we going to see you in May at the #highdesertoverland ??
The dog sling in the video is the Airlift Emergency Dog Rescue Sling made by a company called Fido Pro. They make a variety of slings in different sizes. Here's link to their website: fidoprotection.com/
How about some doggels- I could see a branch getting slammed in an eye socket while transporting off trail with the litter unintentionally while maneuvering

Great topic indeed. Love the Steve First Aid kit. Well done guys!
Thanks! Other than keeping Syndey safe, my primary concern is Steve's heart health. So, that stun gun goes through a lot of batteries ha ha!

Jon’s going to need to up his insurance, he may not make it out of the bush at all 😏

I have no idea why this never crossed my mind, but what great advice. That harness is awesome!
The harness really is pretty cool. Sydney seems to like piggy back rides. So, I might have to start hiding the harness ha ha!
Don't miss the "special" medical kit I have for my brother Steve at 7:36
🤣🤣🤣
This awesome advice. I have never thought of this scenario when travelling with dogs but feel it should definitely be a part of the plan.
Thanks! Can't wait to see your new suspension out wheeling!

Thanks and love the new ditch lights on your rig!
a very pleasant atmosphere when camping and accompanied by a dog and a great idea greetings my brother
Looks like a great kit.
Thanks for the video
Thanks and that Canon is a great camera!
I've been happy with it.
Gotta make sure the heart’s healthy! 😂
So true ha ha!

Great topic Steve, and well presented!
Thanks! Love your photography!
Super appreciate that Steve!
Great info here! Also, I want to wear my dog like a backpack in normal, every day life so I'm gonna get one of those for sure :D.
Wearing your dog like a backpack in normal, everyday life is a great idea...I've seriously got to try that now ha ha!
Great stuff here! With the heat in AZ, we always make sure we carry extra water and a small collapsible water bowl for our guys (Loki and Shadow)
Thanks! Great point about making sure to have extra water for your dogs.

Thanks for that comment! Your Treat Mountain video was great! It has been a while since I've been out with a group that large. Looked like fun!

Excellent topic to cover! Lots of good info here. I learned a lot, as usual! I've found some more stuff to add to my dogs' gear bags. Thank you!

A lot of great information there. Cheers Steve
Thanks! Gotta take care of the pup as well ha ha.

Somebody cares more about their dog than they do about their brother 😏
I don't know, I offered to test that defibrillator on you out of pure kindness. That's brotherly love for sure!
