I grew up with FJ40s and FJ60s and have always wanted either a Land Cruiser or a 4Runner. I feel like I finally made it in a way getting my 4Runner. Now I just need to do a little off road adventure with my wife and kids. Been on them with my parents and had a few with my old 2001 Mitsubishi Montero but haven't gotten to give my family the same memories yet, now I can though. Keep it up, you guys are great. Cheers!

@@OverlandPNW Yes, I resolved the drawer friction problem by straightening a bent cross-member, and by trimming away some of the carpeting material from the side panels that was rubbing on the drawer. The blue device is a Bluetti AC50S power station, similar to a Jackery 500 device. Have a Merry Christmas!

Beautiful Campsites!! But , boy do I hate those conditions. I can't stand the unpredictability of that mud probably because I mostly cut my teeth in desert driving in the SW. It really tears those trails up too. That stump is a perfect example of why I recommend sliders right after tires to anybody starting to mod. Damaging your truck there is difficult and expensive to repair. Love the headlight sitting on the opening stump. Way to go Sam, clearing those trails like that is awesome.
You are the first person that noticed that headlight on the stump! I would love to know the story behind that one! Mud is definitely not my favorite either. I like a little bit of a technical challenge but the drier the better! Desert driving in the SW must have been awesome!
I picked up an aluminum work bench not long after watching this video and have taken it on a few trips and I’ve gotta say it has been awesome. Thanks for sharing that great idea.
I’m relatively new to my relatively old 2011 4Runner Trail, and you have taught me a lot about overlanding what 30+ years of off-roading have not. Thank you. BTW, the Ellis Precision is at the top of my list for interior upgrades.

I am a 4 runner guy so appreciate the tips on how to use the computer settings on the rigs. I can also relate to the terrain as I am originally from central Washington but now live on the Olympic Peninsula which is MUCH different. Thanks for sharing the ride along!
So true about how different very different the terrain is in the Olympic Peninsula. It is almost like learning a whole new style of off roading. Still very fun, just different. When we first started doing trails in the coast range in Oregon we called it Roots, Rocks, Ruts, Puddles, and Mud....ha ha!

Interesting knob change. I have to admit, the one that comes with the rig is not overly impressive. But it does say TRD. lol. My short list of things I never explore w/out: Spare tire. Tire repair kit/fix a flat. Phone, CB. Water, food. Extra warm clothing. Recovery gear.(includes work gloves) That is the bare minimum. The list you give is what I consider luxury items. :)
Yes, you are correct! This was a list of "nonessential" items that we never overland without because they make life on the trail more pleasant. We may do a video in the future on essential gear such as trauma kits, recovery equipment, navigation, communication, etc. Your list is a good one. Cheers!
@@OverlandPNW An extensive list should really start with a 2nd trail rig. And end with a satellite emergency locator beacon. lol Everyones list varies. But after 35+ years experience, I can assure you, it is not difficult to have a long list. :).
The mud hill was the highlight of the trip for me. Part of me would have loved to do it multiple times but I’m glad we didn’t tear up the road excessively. I enjoyed having cause to bust out the electric chainsaw. So quick to set up, for me it’s even an alternative to a machete when clearing the small stuff.

Another great way to rappel is to use your winch, makes it a lot easier coming back up. 👏 Thank you for all the great instructions and dreams.

Gotta love that PNW mud. That little propane faux fire pit was awesome. I am usually backpacking during fire season.. but I think I could carry it. The only bummer about camping in summer, beside mosquitos, is not being able to have a fire but... problem solved!
We need to invent a propane fire pit small enough for backpacking...cha ching we are millionaires ha ha!
