David & Goliath HVAC
Приєднався 22 сер 2021
My name is David and I’m a new HVAC Contractor in North Carolina. I’m a one-man army (hint the name of my company) sharing what I find on the job and striving to help others along the way. My main goal is to help guys in the HVAC field go from Tech to Exec: To break free from working for a company and to start their own HVAC company. This is something I started last year and I’m in the process of building my business from the ground up. I’m no “expert” but I am going for it. I plan on documenting and demonstrating my journey.

Nice solution 👍
Can you break it down into steps?
This is how I’ve done it but I’ve heard of people saying wet bulb and dry bulb I’ve never understood why those were needed.
Add freon to lower superheat?
@@gaetzwarren8146 yes
@@Davidandgoliathhvac thanks. Just clarifying
that was dope
Thank you!
I hope this kind of video stops the charlatan tradies. My old parents were fleeced by $20k aud by someone I called to fix their heating.
@@rossdtool sorry to hear that about your parents but it’s also good to get a second or third opinion on the situation if the first company says it’s going to be 20k
I've stopped using the Titan brand capacitors. Go with u.s. made ones or Mars. They're slightly more expensive but last much longer.
Yeah, the cheap Titans are ass but the Titan HD capacitors are good American made capacitors.
@@samisharif87 I agree and carry a good better best option for the customer and have them decide based on their budget
@@Davidandgoliathhvac nice, I may have to start doing that as well. Lol
How many dead lizards was that 😮
@@mdterpz532 At least two this time. Always gotta watch for bees when removing covers as well
Easy money
What state you in?
North Carolina
Nice work brother how long have you been doing HVAC?
Thank you and almost 5 years
Hi, mine have red light lit up (closed).....does this mean time to replace a new one? House is less than 5 yrs old. Thanks
@@Nick2JZ you have to test with volt meter and or also open up and look inside to see if the damper actually opens and closes
Hi, so the Damper in Close position without power? And with power it Open? Thanks
Flame sensor not sensing the flame so it's cutting out
Thanks for the videos
Thanks easy easy
I burned my hand last week. Are you supposed to use gloves? Someone told me they can freeze to your hand and rip skin off when you try to take the gloves off afterward. Idk what to do. 😂I’m kinda nervous to burn my hands up. Someone at my job has bleach white stains on his hand because of it being burned.
Nice tip Please tell me would this fix the winding noise these specific actuators make
The winding noise of the damper opening and closing? It does make a small noise when opening and closing but nothing alarming
What chemical
I use the blue nubrite cleaner. Let is soak for a few minutes wash with water and also use a brass metal toothbrush to get rid of any extra dirt build up.
Takes a man to admit their mistake. Good find, stay cool brother
What are the number for ? 0 1 2 3
I like your clamp you put on the liquid side , where did you get How should I look for it ?
Hilmar clamp. You can get one online or hvac supply store.
Can you do accurate line set temperature for sub cooling or Super heat with just one clamp ?
Can I use one of this on my sc680 field piece meter for sub cooling or super heat, Or do I need two milmar clamps ?
@@elleondejuda4681 yes any clamp really will work and I only have one clamp for now so I have to go back and fourth to check both the subcooling and superheat. If you have two clamps you don’t have to do that.
Let’s see the flash light signal
Great job

Awesome 😊
This tells how to measure. There is a formula to determine what it should be.
I got txt but subcooling is 2-3. Gauge temp is 115 & Line temp 112-113. But last week I had perfect subcooling of 12. Is that the mighty power of the txv constantly changing & fluctuating?
What were the pressures? And yes the txv can fluctuate and adjust.

Simple and comprehensive.
It amazes me how many tools it takes for us to put one of these in
Perfect explanation easy to understand. Thanks
Pretty thick to have that written down behind gauge
And the target super heat?
Thanks for that explanation!! I have always done New construction residential installs, but am trying to make the switch to service and changeouts, and so many HVAC guys online overcomplicate everything and make it all seem like rocket science instead of breaking it down in laymans terms. Im thinking of doing my own business too and its essential that I learn the ins and outs of charging units, superheat/supercool etc. SUBSCRIBED
Thank you for subscribing and best of luck to you on your new chapter! You got this!! 🙏
Flame rod or pressure switch
Clean that circuit cabinet!! Good God! 😮
Clean
Damn the dog needs to foot the bill F that 😂
Great video Bro. I got the same thing going on, trane heat pump, 3.5 ton seer It’ll hear in Aux mode, but not regular mode. Do you think this is the problem?
Could be. Start by making sure you have high voltages at the contactor coming into the unit and see that you’re getting a call for heat by messing the 24v coil at the contactor. Use your meter and test everything out.
@@Davidandgoliathhvac Ok thanks man. But I’m not a tech. I felt like I was for 10 seconds changing out a capacitor. Lol! But can you tell me what any other simple possibilities are? Thank you in advance
@@damon323 for a hear pump not heating it could be a number of things. Is the outdoor unit running at all when you turn it on from the thermostat? Does the outdoor fan turn on and compressor? You really need a volt meter and gauges. Could be a bad capacitor if the outdoor unit isn’t turning on.
@@Davidandgoliathhvac i may have jumped the gun. I think the unit was getting to temp and was running in a brief fan mode right before it shut off. I tested it some last night and this morning and I seem to be all good. Really appreciate your replies though, thank you. Most HVAC guys on here never do.
@@damon323I hope you figure it out and yes I try to not be like the rest
This people is why you should have general maintenance done on your central air unit cause first things first they use aluminum to make the cooling pins and aluminum can oxidize overtime. If you don’t take care of it and that is what happened to this central air unit
Dog urine will destroy a condenser coil!

Mini splits. The best thing ever.
*If it’s mounted on a wall
Needs fence keeping the dogs away from it
That’s exactly what I told the customer they should do once they replace it so that it doesn’t happen again.
can you just top it off for the summer and we will replace it next year?
You sure could but this unit holds about 8 pounds so it wasn’t something I recommended to the customer.
@@Davidandgoliathhvac I was joking.
From dog piss
Thats the craziest failure I have ever seen.
Replace....
Replace the coil or the dog? 😂
Have this same thing at a run down property I’m at. The unit has another problem if you can help me out. It’s a heat pump split system on r22 Thermostat is calling for heat and cool fine but air inside is coming out the same tempt (warm) . The outdoor unit seems like it cuts on and on off. The pressures are almost equal at 94-100psig and it has a faulty disconnect. Everything indoor is fine not sure where to go next.
If your gauges are showing equal pressures then there’s something going on with the compressor. Either it’s not running or it’s on its way out. Check capacitor for the compressor, check high voltages to compressor and also check the terminals at the compressor to make sure they are not grounded (make sure power is off when you do this).
@@Davidandgoliathhvac man I appreciate the swift response. Thank you. Capacitor tested good, I added a hard start to it but same symptoms. I will test ground short for compressor today. One thing though, instead of a plug this compressor has just wiring wrapped around the c/r/s contacts.
@@The1realroYes the older type compressors aren’t plugged in so take a picture of the terminal and you’ll have to remove the individual r,s,c and then test. But if you’re getting equal pressure readings could be the valves in the compressor are going bad. Since it’s an r22 system I wouldn’t recommend to customer they need to consider getting a new system.
@@Davidandgoliathhvacyup, you are spot on with everything. The system is in horrible shape. Property owners are trying to convert every system that has these significant issues to r410a systems. I’m a one man crew so Im looking forward to multiple condenser swaps in the near future. Anything specific I should note? I know the procedure and steps for a condenser swap but wondering about two things… 1. indoor unit compatibility(mostly pistons). 2. wondering how important it is to get those line sets cleaned properly because of the change in refrigerant. Or is a new line set always warranted? I appreciate all of your help. I’m an entry level tech in South Carolina with some experience but not used to being solo. Sometimes it feels like everything can be wrong wrong with a system.
@@The1realro For this system is it a straight AC with gas furnace? If so, then yes you can swap out the outdoor condenser unit with new line set and indoor coil. If it’s a heat pump they really need a whole new system. I wouldn’t patch together a swap unless the system was already 410a. And if the line set would be a pain to replace they do sell cleaning kits at the supply stores where you can spray each line with the kit + nitrogen and it’s suppose to work well. You can also pull a triple vac on the line set before you release any refrigerant. And I’m in NC man. A one man army too.. keep it up.
