VW Front disc brakes: part 1 - can of worms!
Переглядів 2202 роки тому
A simple maintenance job becomes a can of worms when I go to replace the brake pads on the 1976 crew cab. In this video I assess the front brakes on a VW bay window van. While the van doesn't have any braking issues, the brakes haven't been looked at in over 8 years so it's time for some maintenance. VW Replacing The Rear Lights
Переглядів 1,7 тис.3 роки тому
Rear lights are a very important safety feature on any vehicle, so it's important they're working reliably. In this video, I'm replacing the tatty old rear lights on the red van with some much improved genuine VW units. VW Replacing the CV boots
Переглядів 2,1 тис.3 роки тому
This week I replace 30 year old CV boots from the early bay. After removing the old drum brakes I planned to replace the CV boots and check the CV joints. Without resistance the job is impossible. Now with the rear brake rebuild done I can finally replace the CV boots. Fortunately the CV joints look good so after a clean up and some fresh grease they can go back onto the van along with a new se...

You are in for a treat.......just spent 7 weeks doing rustrepare on mine. Just about the only thing left is brakes all around and a oilservice. Been of the roads since 87...... Cheers ! Hakan in Sweden
Instead of removing the heat riser/intake assembly what would you think of just tapping on the heat riser while still on the vehicle to free up blockage?
what was the final number of turns for the small screw. If you dont know what was the inital turns for the small screw
Keep up the clips 🤞 / good job 👍
very informative videos thanks
Great video, thanks so much
Good thing you caught your mistake when reassembling the CV joints, I was shaking my head when you put the first one back together. But I feel you should have mentioned exactly what you did wrong, then shown how you corrected the issue. Also, I believe the chamfered edge of the inner race should be positioned toward the axle, not toward the case, as it gives the axle just a bit more range of outward pivoting motion without it making contact with the race. Good video, thanks for sharing. 👍
IRELAND? I THOUGHT YOU DROVE MINI COOPERS THERE
Good wiring on this important install.
Hey rob! looking to change mine out. How many hoses are there exactly? Do they each need a filter? Thanks in advance
Was literally just trying to see the one thing you left out before i accidentally break something. Guess we're just going to smash it out and figure it out with the new housings.
Thinks
Cheers , gonna check mine out tomorrow as never had any heat since I bought it last year . Good to see the system and hose locations .
You've helped a lot. I have that switch on my gearbox but wasn't smart enough to figure what it was for.
Thanks for the explanation. The after market header exhaust on my bus and broken at a weld joint and I am trying to decide what type of exhaust to replace it with and leaning towards stock exhaust/heater box. Luckily I still have the duct to the front of the bus and my fan shroud has the air flow ports. Though a sidewinder exhaust just looks cool.
Grazie,se spiegavi come agire sulle due viti...cosi non si e' capito niente
I really like your I only have one complaint And it may just be me It's hard to pay attention when your eyes are darting and all over the damn place.
Thanks for revealing the heating system with the air-cooled Beetle engine. it is new for me and would be a good idea to do some experiments and record the temperatures inside and outside the car-cabin with and without the heat exchange working. What if I live in a hot country! How can I improve air cooling for my Beetle engine only. Do these heaters help cool the engine while traveling? Or will removing it will cool the engine more efficiently? best regards
Always use steel clips no cable tie
Car in very rusty condition
Astute observation.
This is exactly what I have to do on my '70 beetle. Thanks for this video. Even JBugs video isn't this thorough. I'm by myself with no help, so lifting the fan shroud up and removing the alternator and fan is where I'm at now in this process. I didn't know I had to remove the oil cooler duct stuff. Pulling the engine out is my last resort to remove the intake and heat riser. I'm going from single carb to dual.
interesting i have a 5th gen Honda prelude no spark coming from dizzy just on cylinder one tested everything apart from ecu solder joints but never thought of checking to see if this magnet issue was the problem il go check that right now
You explain that so well thanks 🎉🎉
Nine years later, here is the answer: Your batterie is dead...
Size tread. 1/8 27 npt or m10x1.0
To be honest....maybe im just lucky but...i put my pully to TDC and also put my distributor pointing to the line and my engine runs like an absolute boss...never used a timing light..did run across this figured id check it out its basically what i do with my engine but with the headache lol
Brilliant! Thanks for sharing. Must order a kit and have a go myself.
Thanks for this. I have a ‘79 and have looking at the ways to heat the van whilst driving, over winter. I thought ‘why don’t I just get the original system set up correctly?’ But then worried that it might not be very warm, but you’ve assured me that it’s absolutely the best thing to do! 😊
If it’s working correctly it’s pretty effective, make sure that your heat exchangers are good and not letting exhaust fumes into the cab .😮.
I don’t own an older VW, but when I do I am certain this will help me at some point. Thank you for sharing!
Cheers thankyou,rgds Steve
Hi Rob,we're about to buy,a 1972t21600cc van,and wonder can the heat exchangers be changed without removing the Engine.manythanks&rgds Steve&Theresa
Yep! It's a bit fiddly, but they can be changed without pulling the engine
G Morn Rob,excellent advise,much needed &Appreciated,rgds&best wishes Steve&Theresa Rainham Essex England
Is taking the vacuum hose off and plugging it correct
Excellent video, thank you
Good work! I have a similar issue. I was thinking of cutting off (carefully) the drums, but your approach looks better!
I have the same carb on a Honda 1200 Goldwing and had to change out the 55 idle Jet for 60 idle jet for it to idle better.
I did not learn much.....WHAT your final settings ???
Thanks for that. I have your DoKa's son - the 1980 T3 (T25) DoKa, also in red, and reverse light switch issues after gearbox work. Keep it up.
Very nice, I have mounted recently on my vanagon t3 1600ct Aircooled, and I was wondering if you could guide me within what scale it should hang out, and what to look out for when driving, thanks 🙏
Where do you get your VDO ?
Rob, thanks so much for the video on reverse light install for the Bus! Even though you posted this 2 years ago it really came in handy today as I'm restoring my 72 Transporter. I was able to trace out my switch location and the wiring. As a result I found the in line fuse holder missing the fuse and wire to the coil.
Super useful video! Thanks for sharing Rob.
I have a 76 Bay Westy. It has the flat boxer motor 1800. The heater fan is working but I don't feel any heat coming out of anywhere. What could I be missing?. Thanks for the video.
Great video....what is the official color of your Double Cab?
It's called a bus !!! not a van !!!
Thank you for sharing this. Mine is just squeaking like hell
Great video!! Just bought my 15yr old daughter a 1970 bus and still learning about it. Learned something new from your video!!
Did your temperature gauge ever get above 50 ish...I fitted one a while back and it never goes above 55..I have tried lots of things like a thicker sender wire..a new sump plug sender...and nothing has worked ..any ideas
Are you using different size terminal connectors where you made the jumper wires?
ee-em-pee-eye? Or Emmpee?
