  • Watch as I remove the seized drum and disc brakes from an old volkswagen bus.
Continuing with the restoration of our 1971 VW bay window. We want to be able to push the van around the garage and it'll need a full brake rebuild in the near future. Unsurprisingly, after sitting motionless for the best part of 30 years, nothing wants to move. So let's have a go at removing the old seized brake components.
    Can we pull it off?
Note: Before resorting to the hub puller, we did try backing off the star adjusters on the rear drums. Unfortunately, they were just as badly rusted/seized as everything else.

You are in for a treat.......just spent 7 weeks doing rustrepare on mine. Just about the only thing left is brakes all around and a oilservice. Been of the roads since 87......
    Cheers !

Good work! I have a similar issue. I was thinking of cutting off (carefully) the drums, but your approach looks better!

Ahh i was almost shouting at the TV to remove the hub nut! 😉 I love the fact that this van has been sitting since 1991! That's the same year my MG was taken off the road!

I'm wondering if indeed he also forgot to release the parking brake in first place 🤔
