So this is the most important race I'll do this year. This is the Race For Life. It is organised by the charity Cancer Research UK. It's a great cause and an opportunity for people to raise money for a really good cause.
I had a great day and would recommend doing one of these with friends and family. It's a really fun event and very inclusive for everyone.

Well done mate huge improvement nice red bar too
Amazing effort lad
Great video, straight to the point and exactly what I was looking for. Like you, I’m pleasantly surprised with the Strava estimates
So the one-sided SPD pedal is going to be LIGHTER than the SPD-SL. You're comparing a double sided SPD with a single sided SPD SL lol
Topless!
Power to weight is a real thing. Don't have ambitions on the top step until you know this fact.
Good racing. It looks like that is a level above D as far as categories go. One thing is that appears that your trainer suffers from sticky watts. I really don’t think you’re doing it on purpose but that will be something to try to avoid.
Yeah my trainer is slowly dying. Hoping to get another half year out of it before upgrading!
You are really good at racing by putting most efficient energy to max the result! Wow! I finished this stage by using avg 3.7wkg( 305w ) power! However I only ranked in 20th in that group. The guy using 3.2 wkg (avg)win the first place!!
Good one, needs more practise on how far from finish you can handle intense push - whether long and steady or 400m full gas! Still GG
How fast you realy got by using them in kmh because iam planing to buy the trek domane al 3 and thank you for reading 😊
I can average about 30kph without the aero bars, I’ll need to practice with them more to see how fast I can go with the aero bars
I had this bike when I lived in London, I miss it every day 😢
Great job!
awesome job! love your videos and recaps. you passed my first triatlon at 1:27. keep up the good work looking forward to the 70.3 💪
Cheers! hopefully the 70.3 will go alright, I'm a bit nervous about the swimming but hopefully it'll all come together
Hope your channel blows up man, appreciate the work you put in and its nice to see the proces/progress! Very decent times/speed man. I'm doing very similar speeds and have the ambition to do a triathlon once but currently am just training without an event in mind. As I can see it's quite a bit of hassle and planning on race day. How do you measure your watts (cycling)? I'm a zwifter myself and was wondering if the watt output outside is similar to in the app.
Cheers pal! I have a power meter crankset, it came with my groupset but it's probably easier just to buy a set of power meter pedals. I think it's easier to put out more power outside, inside it's always so warm and that makes it harder to push the power without overheating
Are you sure about 1500m swim? Half distance is usually 1900m swim.
Yeah it’s slightly short, also the bike is 86km instead of 90
Bang on with your targets! Congrats good luck on your future event!
Thanks! Hopefully the next events will go as smoothly as this one did!
Congratulations - that was a marvelous effort!
Cheers! Hopefully the longer events will go just as well!
Told you 2 weeks ago that you'd smash 18 minutes, well done!
Cracking effort, Jarrod! 🎉 You set a goal and smashed it! 👊 💪 🚲
What route is this?
Elevation Evaluation
Love how the "back to proper training" lined up with the cake and strudel
One step closer to the 4W/kg goal 👍👍
Welldone mate
great job and congrats
Well done. Keep it up.
They should make sails for bicycle to push us using the wind.
I don't bring food on my rides. I eat before and after my bike rides.
268 is solid! a lot of great cyclists and UA-camrs have similar FTPs!😅 lots to be proud of!
Thoughts on Budapest?
Beautiful, if you get the change i would 100% recommend it
Soo cool keep it up man!
I think the tombstone at the top of The Grade gives your FTP as 95% of your 20min average. So you probably averaged 282W up that climb for your 268W FTP. A 300W average up the climb will give you a 285W FTP, I think, but I could be wrong!
You're right. The average near the top of the screen whilst riding it is yor average for the KoM. Zwift then make a calculation based on that. If the climb takes you more than 20 minutes, it seems to use the old 95% rule to estimate your FTP. 268 is 95% of 282. As you take longer, I guess it will adjust that percentage upwards. As you go quicker, it will adjust it downwards. For example, for me it was 88% of the KoM average.
great job too bad part of the live feed froze up so i miss the last segment
Welldone Jarrod. Great new FTP. 💪
Nice work man, keep it up! Thinking about doing one myself, fun and useful to see which decision related to gear you make. Best of luck!
Good video Jarrod, sounds like a lot of fun.
Trek Domane AL3 is an entry level road bike.
You kind of nailed exactly all your splits. You know your body and ability very well.
Did you use the watch transition setting or go for the manual button press?
Good video ! One think you could do for the half, trying to stay budget, is clip-on aero bars. They are relatively cheap and allow to get way more aero. You could also get aero socks for the bike leg, cheap upgrade that saves a few watts. My last comment would be regarding the sunglasses : I too have Oakley and they are great. I think budgety alternatives are again, the Decathlon offering ranging from 30 to 60€. Goodr also often come up as an excellent option.
For the first triathlon, you can do a triathlon with swim trunks, running shoes, and a single speed bike. However, once you come to love triathlon, then you'll realize that a disc wheel /aero wheel cover is a must, as well as an aero helmet, no matter the distance. When you look good you feel good. Also,.for the run, if it's such a short race, you don't need socks. Happy racing.
Go Jarrod
Post-race video title suggestion: "My First Triathlon - Everything That Went Wrong" 🤣
Good advice, particularly with not spending big at first. Good luck with the event!
GOOD LUCK! 💪💪💪
Good luck Jarrod
Great strategy! Hope you smash it. 💪
Cheers! Hopefully I won't be in too much pain the next day!
Good luck, Jarrod. My unsolicited advice would be to pay attention to how your stomach feels during the run. I've found gels can give me a bad stitch-like feeling when really pushing on a run. That's not uncommon when you add a bunch of carbs (this is why Maurten is now so popular). Personally I've found drinking my carbs and electrolytes along the ride to be helpful in prep for the run. Either way, you'll learn what to do or not to do for your 70.3.
Good advice! I've been training with various gels and found that the sis ones don't bother my stomach too much. Also I'm probably going to take a gel before the run starts so hopefully it'll be able to be absorbed before running starts
first gel right before water start, get the second gel into you with about 5 mins left on bike
Good luck Jarrod 💪
Good luck fella….keep to your pace strategy and push as you feel you’ll smash it 🏊♂️🚴♂️🏃♂️💪👍
