Fast Paced Fantasy! 'Among Thieves' Review
Great video! I always love to see what everyone is reading. Helps me get some ideas of what to read next.
Thank you! I do read a variety of different things, so I pride myself in always having something for everyone in these wrap-up videos. Thanks for watching! :)
1. The high king 2. The black cauldron 3. Taran wanderer 4. The book of three 5. The castle of llyr
Great ranking. Thanks for watching! :)
Ooh Mission Impossible! Love the shirt! Hiding covers again 😂😂 with a title like that, it better have a risqué cover! 😂 That’s quite the month you had! That’s disappointing to hear about the horror novel not being that great. The title made me giggle. Glad you finished and enjoyed Mistborn. I’ve gotta try Sanderson one of these days. Good luck hitting your 140 goal!!
I just never know what I can get away with on the channel. It isn't as risqué as some of the other Hard Case Crime books I have read, but better to be safe than sorry. It had the absolute best title! It was just ok in the long run, but I am also not the ideal audience for it, so... Sanderson is such a good writer! You should definitely try Mistborn someday. Thanks for watching! :)
Currently shaking my head at you... 😂 I didn't even call you out! 😂 You called yourself out! 😂
Well, you seemed like you were going to, so I just beat you to the punch. Again, I am sorry. :(
After sitting on my bookshelf for the last few years, I am finally reading 'The Five Warrior Angels' trilogy by (fellow booktuber) Brian Lee Durfee. I am halfway through the first book, 'The Forgetting Moon,' and I am really enjoying the massive world-building. It's fun to get back into a sprawling epic series.
I do want to tackle that trilogy someday. I have heard nothing but good things about them. Thanks for watching! :)
You do not have a problem, you have an opportunity 😂, looks like a good reading month
You say opportunity, but when you run out of places to put the books...it is a problem. ;P Thanks for watching! :)

You say opportunity, but when you run out of places to put the books...it is a problem. ;P Thanks for watching! :)
This adds to one of 2 opportunities, either for reading or alternative dominos, fate will decise. So many future reads
Alternative dominos sounds like a fun intro I could film for a video at some point, so thanks for that idea. :) I have so many great options it is hard trying to decide what to read first. Thanks for watching! :)
Spoiled and forgetting to mention it! 😱 happy belated birthday and good luck! 😂
Yeah, I still can't believe I forgot to grab it when I was gathering everything together! Thanks for watching! :)
Great Stack📚📚📚📚
Thank you!! :)
I made a big mistake and trying to audio the first book in The Song of Ice and Fire series more commonly known as Game of Thrones. Don’t do that🥴. I can’t even pick up the book because I hear the voice in my head that I hated on the audiobook.
I thought that was something unique to me... I did the exact same thing
I am not a big audiobook person, so I don't have this problem. The books just scare me due to their sheer size. Thanks for watching! :)
Nice haul. Some interesting reads. My Bday was in June as well and I took a vacation and bought so many books myself from various used shops. Got some great bargains. We’ve got some reading to get to !!
Happy belated birthday to you!! I clearly bought way too many, but hopefully I can really hit the stacks these next couple of months. Gotta make room so I can get more. lol Thanks for watching! :)
@@Man-With-a-Hat-Who-Reads Thanks for the Bday wishes. Happy reading !
34 books, holy bananas that’s a lotta books! Mosaic is super atmospheric and weird, hope you enjoy it when you get to it!☺️📚
Holy bananas?? ;p lol I went a bit overboard. :P I am looking forward to Mosaic; might try to pick it up in October. Thanks for watching! :)
Totally agree that "Taran Wanderer" is the weakest of the books. Also, "The High King" is my favorite, a terrific summing up of everything that has happened to this point.
'Taran Wanderer' just feels unnecessary in the scope of the series. Thanks for watching! :)
No Sleep til Wonderland?! Sounds like a weird Alice in Wonderland retelling! I must know more! Dunno how that would be a mystery, but it could be fun! Yay Tim Dorsey! He is definitely weird! I haven’t read that one yet, but hope you enjoy it! You aren’t alone, I watched one episode, no dragons and a bunch of hates me characters 🤬, and still have yet to read a GoT book. Witchcraft western?! Isn’t that an oxymoron? 😅 Definitely some awesome looking covers at the end! Nice and creepy! Hope they live up to the graphics! Joining the read what you own out of necessity?! 😂I love it! Good luck!
I am pretty sure it isn't an Alice in Wonderland retelling, but who knows?? ;p Not sure when I will get to Dorsey, but now I have it to tackle whenever. I did like the first Game of Thrones, but I have no idea when I will get back to the series. I am excited to read all of them right now, but I really need to get some of the ones that have been here forever read first. Thanks for watching! :)
@@Man-With-a-Hat-Who-Reads one can always hope 😂 you’ll get to it at some point. He’s another one with a weird sense of humor and I’ve noticed some of his books make much more sense than others, but the banter always cracks me up. Good luck getting through em all! 😊
Nice haul! Your girlfriend is a keeper! Enjoy!
She definitely is a keeper!! :) Thanks for watching! :)
Ooohh I gotta watch this when I get home!! 34 books?! Where are you gonna put em all?!?!
Well, let's just say that my book stacks are starting to look like a giant version of Jenga. ;p
@@Man-With-a-Hat-Who-Reads Jenga sounds fun. I’ve played a few versions, might as well try book Jenga. Whichever one falls is the one you have to read next 😂
@@gingerbibliophile I have a feeling that if one falls they all fall. So long as I am not near the stack when it goes, I should be fine. ;p
@@Man-With-a-Hat-Who-Reads maybe the one that falls furthest out?! If your lucky it’ll only be part of the stack that goes at a time 😂 it’s your sign to slowly build shelves along the top of the walls and over doors. Home library goals! 😊
Wish I had a store like that near me. Would be nice to have a place to resell merch as well
Yeah, it is about an hour and a half drive for me, but I always make it worth my while when I go. lol ;p I have gotten more from selling back in the past, but they had a lot of stuff in the store this time compared to other times I have been there. Thanks for watching! :)
You’re on the board?! That’s so cool! Do you get to help pick which new books to get? Sucks that you miss out on a lot of library events cause life wants to get in the way. Hopefully you’ll get to do the book club thing soon! Awesome answers and awesome video! Take care, happy reading! 😊
Well, we don't get that kind of fun stuff. We mostly deal with things like policies, financials, etc. I will get to the book club thing at some point. Eventually. lol ;p Thanks for watching! :)
@@Man-With-a-Hat-Who-Reads ahh, but you can’t buy books without money, so you kinda have that power… bookmark a few bucks for the next Rollins novel… 😈😂
@@gingerbibliophile lol I don't even have that much power. The librarian gets to decide what we get. They have gotten some Rollins in the past, but they don't move. :/
@@Man-With-a-Hat-Who-Reads folks aren’t picking up the Rollins?! What is wrong with the people in your town?! I’m not sure I trust their taste! 😅
The Hat demands for you to travel and for me to watch, like and comment.
Well, thank you for watching! :)
I'm stoked that you loved it so much :) Those mad characters were so much fun to write!
It was so much fun to read!! And I am stoked to have gotten a comment from the author! :O Thanks so much for watching! :)
You’re on the board of directors?! That’s super cool! ☺️📚📚📚
Yeah, it has been very interesting learning more about the operations of the library. :) Thanks for watching! :)
I finished the book today and came look for reviews as I have no one to discuss books with, and although I enjoyed it, I think it could do more with less, some parts just went on for so long that I started to miss some words, I loved the characters but some of them just, existed, like Steve or Emmet, overall I enjoyed it, 3 out of 5 I would say.
Well, the booktube community is a great place to discuss books with people, so welcome!! :) I think for me, the book just came off as more of a surprise than anything. I went in with no expectations and ended up pleasantly surprised. I have a feeling that if I were to re-read it, I might have more issues with it. Glad to hear you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching! :)
Good luck with your tbr list! I am a fan of good ol pen and paper. That’s what I use for taking notes about books I’m reading. For my tbr if there’s a book I want to remember to read I usually just add it to my goodreads want to read list.☺️📚
I should use my goodreads want to read list more often. lol I have random papers and notebooks all over the place with titles and authors written down. I really should get them all in one place. Thanks for watching! :)
Best wishes with what yo read off your list.
Thanks so much!! I have plenty of options. Thanks for watching! :)
Never even heard of this til you, but it’s going on my tbr wish list now. Thanks 😝😂 I’ve got a series that has the occasional western pun too, and it’s about monsters, but yours sounds way crazier. I might be friends with some of these characters. Exploding pigs? A vampire that eats annoying people with impunity?! I’m here for it! Awesome video and you’re right, it’s not the Coil 😂
It was so, so, so fun!! I highly recommend it! :) There are so many other things i could have mentioned, but I didn't want to spoil anything. ;p Thanks for watching! :)
@@Man-With-a-Hat-Who-Reads love it! It’s always nice to have a fun completely out there read.
I’m have a TBR list on Goodreads that I obsessively compare to my shelves to make sure my list is always accurate before I go bookshop
Yeah, I know that feeling all too well! I always triple check lists before I go to the bookstore. Thanks for watching! :)
I don’t have a system and sometimes I re-buy a book and find out I already own it ☹️ Very frustrating indeed !! Assuming you don’t have a kindle. Have you tried one? Or you just like physical books better? I find I read a bit faster on kindle for some reason
You see, that was why I started the list years ago. I ended up doubling something and was so annoyed. Now I make lists of specific books that I am looking for when I go. Although, it does help having a smart phone now as well. ;) I don't have a kindle, but I have read some ebooks just on my computer. I actually prefer reading and owning physical books. Just something I like. Thanks for watching! :)
I love the idea of writing em all down! Too bad I didn’t do that before I moved and my tbr box got mixed in with the rest! Currently i have the bookcase in my kitchen that I’ve been reading through since I got it. And adding to it… 😅 at this point I have a rough idea of what I’ve read and sometimes get corrected when I go on goodreads thinking I’m reading it again 😂 how do you handle you Had Enoughs on your list?
I just find it to be an easy way to keep track, and I also love making lists, so that is a bonus. ;p Crossing them off always feels like great progress is being made. You see, if I had some excess shelves around, I would most likely have them more organized. :P Had Enoughs don't get on the list after I give up on them. Usually, when they are gone, they are gone! :P Thanks for watching! :)
Wait people keep track of their physical tbr!? What sorcery is this 😂. Great video bud, far more organised than my 'buy it and put in a space thats empty'
Hey, I used to use a system like that. But it got to be a bit much when I started buying a lot more books. This way I always have a record of what needs to be read. Thanks for watching! :)
Oh wow, I need to read What Have We Here?. I only know him from Star Wars and would love to know more about his life. Just put a hold in Libby for it. Very interesting about the Matt Haig book. I’m curious about it...and glad you has a 5 star Sanderson book! I’ve still never read a single one from him! 😬 nice to see the follow up of the fate The Coil 😂 🔥
It was an interesting read, and it added some movies to my list of ones to look for. lol He did a baseball movie called 'The Bingo Long Traveling All-Stars & Motor Kings' with Richard Pryor and James Earl Jones that I had never heard of, but I am so intrigued by it. ;p The Matt Haig book was good, but make sure you are up for something a bit more bleak. It ain't no 'The Comfort Book.' Although that one might be a good one to read right after it. :P May 'The Coil' rest in pieces! Thanks for watching! :)
Ballad was one of my first reviews, it was outside my normal wheelhouse but I enjoyed it quite a bit, I have since read changeling which I enjoyed, and I am reading Lone Woman in July. I need to reread Mistborn 1 as it's been so long and then crack on I think.Looks like you had a bit of an uneven month, here's to a consistently better June.
Ballad was such a unique little novella that I was never sure what was going to happen next. I am really enjoying the Mistborn trilogy and can't wait to crack open the third book later this month. June has already been better than May, and I hope your reading is going great also! Thanks for watching! :)
My high point for the month of May was the classic Henry James novel (novella) The Turn of the Screw. I totally loved it and wanted it to keep on going. Currently I'm taking a dive into the world of distopian novels (new territory for me) with Dies The Fire, the first of a long series by S.M. Stirling.
Never read 'The Turn of the Screw' but it is one I should probably get to some day! Glad to hear you enjoyed it. :) I have heard of that S. M. Stirling series. Isn't there like 16 books in it?? Some of those huge series commitments scare me. lol Thanks for watching! :)
Still one book more than last year! Love the fire 😂😂 so many bad book and sexy chin jokes for the rest of the year. I thought the Matt Haig book was gonna be cute at first. Dad paying attention and looking out for his little girl, and then bam nope! 😂 you had quite the all over month. Glad there was some good to cancel out the book which shall not be mentioned 😂 Hope June goes better for you!
I mean, was there any other way for me to get rid of that book?? ;p Yeah, Matt Haig has written plenty of books that usually have a fun streak in them somewhere, but that was not the case at all with this one. Like I said, it was good, but it is a hard one to read. June has been going great so far. Thanks for watching! :)
@@Man-With-a-Hat-Who-Reads I never say no to fire 🔥😈 glad the month has been going well for you so far! 😊
Great video. My book for May was The Power of the Dog by Don Winslow. It was a great read about a DEA agent chasing two brothers who run a cartel. Fantastic character build up, lots of depth and very well written. So far my book of the year.
That is awesome! I have yet to read any Don Winslow, but I have heard nothing but good things about his stuff!! May you have many other great reads this year. :) Thanks for watching! :)
i bought that book randomly in a second hand book store, and i loved it ! (finished it 2 days ago) Unfortunately book 2 isn't translated, i guess i'll get the english ebook
I just picked up the second one! Not sure when I will get to it, but hopefully sometime yet this year. Thanks for watching! :)
I’m not at all a western fan, but Maleficent Sevens sounds fun, so I vote read that one first. I dunno what’s gonna end up on my June tbr. I’m trying to read through a few series on KU before that free trial ends since my library hasn’t heard of any of em, but the one I’m on now is the rest of the Chess Team series and I don’t like reading the same genre in two formats as I just confuse myself. Unfortunately that’s probably half of the books on my tbr bookcase 😅 and some of the others are scary chunksters so I don’t have a lot of options I’m in the mood for left. 😅 can’t wait to see what you end up getting to! Happy reading! 😊
Well, it really wasn't a western at all. The author just clearly borrowed some plot ideas from 'The Magnificent Seven.' It was great though! Good luck on reading through Chess Team! I never went past the first book myself. lol ;p Thanks for watching! :)
@@Man-With-a-Hat-Who-Reads glad you enjoyed it! I look forward to hearing your thoughts! Chess team is fun so far. I’ve knocked out 4, though the last one got a bit over the top for me with see through “dire wolves” from another dimension. 😅
Only 9 books left?! That’s pretty good! Bring characters into the real world?! Hmmm I could have some fun with that power! Ooohh The Italian Job! Good movie, wonder if the book lives up to that promise😅 Lot of Sci-fi there! I’m curious to see which ones you get to this year! 😊
Yeah, it feels like progress has been made when I look back over the book haul from a year ago. Italian Job is a good movie. :) I really hope I can get all nine of these read yet this year, but only time will tell on that front. Thanks for watching! :)
@@Man-With-a-Hat-Who-Reads it’s definitely progress! Especially given how many book hauls you do a year! You gotta have a few books left over to have something new to read while you’re waiting for the plots and best lines from your old books to get fuzzy so you can enjoy em again!
I really need to get to the Red Rising series, something else always seems to come up. Also Street gang is something i may add to a potential future read. Only having 9/25 left to read is much better than i manage 🤣
I loved Red Rising when I read it a few years ago, but never got back around to the sequels. So, I am hopefully tackling the whole trilogy later this year. Steet gang was just a random find that sounded great! I'll be reading it in June, so keep an eye out for my thoughts on it! The best way to make progress on reads is to prioritize what has been here longest, or at least that has worked for me so far. Thanks for watching! :)
That book definitely took it on the chin... 😂😂😂 But, it had it coming. 😉 10 out of 10 as far as rant videos go!
Thanks, girlfriend!! :) I am actually surprised it ripped as good as it did! ;p
Thank you for reading it so I don’t have to 😂
You are welcome. I think. lol ;p Thanks for watching! :)
Well this book definitely sounds terrible.😂
It really was! :O Thanks for watching! :)
Righteous anger at a book is a good look on you! I had a blast watching this from the intro onward. I have no interest in the book, but I would gladly listen to you complain about it all day.
Thanks so much for the kind words! I had low expectations when I picked it up, but my goodness it was so much worse than I thought it could be! Thanks for watching! :)
