The Anglia Angler
United Kingdom
Приєднався 28 чер 2022
Welcome to the Anglia Angler channel. I returned to angling in the summer of 2017 after a nearly 40 year gap. I decided to concentrate on fishing from the beaches of Norfolk and North Suffolk. UA-cam re-awakened my interest in sea fishing, so I have had ago at making my own little films. Hopefully you might like them.

My old stamping ground. Used to live near the Jolly Sailors pub when younger. 🎣🎣
Maybe I’ll pop into the Jolley Sailors next time. Hope it brought back some happy memories.Tight lines Neil
Well done. I’m in Clacton area still getting rays doggies have just turned up and the whiting ain’t a bad size at the moment. 👍🏻👍🏻
I was surprised at the size of the Whiting, no tiddlers, If it carries on with lots of 30+cm fish the freezer will soon fill up! Thanks for watching and commenting, tight lines Steve.
Great to watch as always Sir. Many thanks for sharing. All the best, Cheers. Robert.
Thanks Robert, always appreciate your encouraging comments, tight lines Robert.
Well done great video enjoy watching you very informative
Thgank you for the kind words. Tight lines Rob.
Nice session. Well done matey!!
Thanks MrTatts. It was nice to be amongst the fish again. Tight lines.
Brilliant video mate, could you tell me what tool you are using to bait the dongle rig please.
Its a Spooligan Deedle, available from Veals Mail Order. I modified mine. Put a grove in the end that the dongle goes onto to prevent the braid slipping off, Attached an old hook to hold the circle hook of the rig and finally used an elastic band to hold it all together so I could use my hand to help position the bait whilst tying it on. There are videos on youtube showing how to use the Deedle but obviously without my mods. Hope this helps. Tight lines Michael.
Just came across your channel, put in a nice and calm way, made it good to watch thanks for your time and effort. A good mixed bag of species.👍👍👍🎣🎣🎣
@@glencronin1592 Hi Glen, Glad you enjoyed the video and thank you for the positive comment, much appreciated. Hopefully this is the start of a good winters fishing after a poor summer. Thanks again, tight lines.
Google kittiwake hotels Lowestoft and you’ll see close up pictures and a news article on those structures. I believe those boats are testing outboard engines.
I fished there 2 weeks ago, caught quite a few on rag and squid.
Glad you had a successful session there aswell. I’ve found I seem to be more successful with Lug worm rather than rag, Do you have a preference? I’d be interested to know. Thanks for watching and commenting. Tight lines Stef.
@@theangliaangler Hi, just recently I’ve had more luck with Rag and squid, rather than Lug and squid. I’ve tried sandeels, and mackerel but haven’t had much luck with them, but other people do.
Nice vid mate
Was not my best, I must remember to press the record button next time! Must have been too excited with all the fish.Tight lines Steve.
those structures are kittywake hotels put up by edf energy last year
Thanks for the information , I’ll investigate further. Never seen or heard of them before. Tight lines MrRobbie.
Great idea's cheers.
Thank you. Glad to be of help. Tight lines.
Great fishing videos. I am hard of hearing. But I can hear everything you say. What camera and mike are you using for your videos?.
I suffer with bad hearing as well, deaf in one ear and need a hearing aid in the other, although I don’t wear it on the beach, too much wind noise. Can be a bit of a problem whem someone comes and talks to me whilst I’m fishing. To answer your question, I do most of the filming using my iPhone 11 with a DJI wireless microphone ( an updated DJI 2wireless microphone is now available). I also use an action camera and my even older iPhone 6 occasionally. Glad the sound quality is good for you. I bet you have problems with TV sound, thank goodness for subtitles. Thanks for commenting, tight lines Mick.
@@theangliaangler Yes wind noise and people talking to you on the beach is a problem. But I try and lip read that helps me get by. I have just got the DJI wireless microphone’s and I’ll be using them with my iPhone 12. I retired back in may. So I’m getting back into sea fishing. I’m coming over to Norfolk again soon who knows we might be on the same beach. The only one’s shouting to each other to hear. Thanks for replying to my message. It’s always helpful to know what others are using. Tight lines my friend
am i correct in saying you then put said box on a trolley?
Yes it goes on my trolley along with as much as I can fit on it and I still take a rucksack! I really should take less. Tight lines John.
Great to watch as always Sir, thanks for sharing :)
Not a problem, glad you liked it. Tight lines.
Thank you so much for that, as I said previously I have just bought a used nearly new shakespeare box with the breakaway back rest, It did not have the bait trays in it, so i was interested in your trident tray. I had not seen one before, I did not realise it was fixed to the box, I was about to purchase some side trays but if they do not fit with the Trident tray then i would be wasting my money. I have not managed to find a Trident tray yet, so I may just buy the side trays. Thank you so much, a great help. just getting back into sea fishing now i am retired, so thanks for the tips. Gold medal for the tidiest Tackle set up I have seen. Thanks again much appreciated.
So glad you found the video useful. Regarding the Trident tray, there are contact details on their website. I’m sure if you contact them they will tell you when the trays will be back in stock. They have been very helpful in dealing with any queries in the past. Thank you for your kind comments and I wish you good luck with your fishing. Tight lines.
Interesting video, your tackle box is much more organised than my mess. Oh and a very strategically placed Norwich flag.. you’re a good man OTBC 👍
I always like to be organised and prepared for anything. I end up taking too much with me making getting back and forth from the mark much harder than it needs to be. Come on you yellows!⚽
Thanks for showing your homemade bits, I've been trying to get a good look at the "pan pipes" tool holder you clip on your shelter in your videos.
The “pan pipes” are made up of 15 and 22mm copper pipe with the associated clips. I’m always looking for things to make. Trolley mod next. Tight lines
Nice video mate despite the weed, as you say it's just nice to be on the beach.
Its always nice on the beach, just hope the catch rate improves soon. Tight lines Michael.
@@theangliaangler I have to admit I have also had a crap year catching this year, but have not had quite as much trouble with weed in the wash. Still much better on the beach than sitting at home. Tight lines.
Hi, I went to Dunwich today. I went far left of the carpark, no snags, just caught 1 bass.
Glad you didn’t lose any tackle and you didn’t blank. Well done. Lets hope the catch rates improve soon. Tight lines Stef.
Good try mate and great video., you have the most tidiest tackle box I have seen, would it be possible to show on one of your videos, the tackle box set up, what do you have under your lid section, does the box have trays and a lid section i could not quite see it on the video, I am looking to buy a new box as just got back into sea fishing now that I have retired. Your set looks excellent. Thanks for the video.
The box is just a standard Shakespeare tackle/seat box (on offer at Angling Direct at the moment, but check other web sites) with aTrident Tackle tidy tray fitted. (Unavailable at the moment) They are the only off the shelf products, everything else is made of odds and sods I had in my shed. i’ll try to get round to making a video to show the details. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching and the comment.
Thanks for the reply, I have not seen the top tray before, my previous one had to loose small trays in the bottom, I have just started fishing again after many years so was interested to see shat it was. Thank you for your help.
I’ve heard the same story multiple times from people trying collect bait from Rays of Runton.
It was the first time I had been let down. Its a shame that it seems another tackle shop could be on the verge of closing but if you let your customers down it becomes inevitable. Hope you’re better luck than me at catching at the moment. Tight lines.
@@theangliaanglerMy last session was 8.5 hours at Gorleston pier and I blanked. There’s always the next one to look forward to!
@@rubythescooby4002 Thats a long session to not be rewarded with any fish. Things can only get better.🤞Soon we hope. Better luck next time. Tight lines.
Thanks for sharing as always Sir. Jeez that weed looks a nightmare. Enjoyable to watch as always though :) Cheers. Robert.
The trials and tribulations of beach fishing. At the end of the day it was still much better than sitting at home. Tight lines Robert.
Hi mate , I felt for ya on this session. What a nightmare it can be when it's that bad. Bob narley would of loved it lol. All the best from G.Y
Hi Carl. Its not the first time I’ve suffered this but its so annoying when it ruins a session you were really looking forward to. Hoping for better luck next time. No weed and lots of fish! Fingers crossed. Tight lines Carl.
We all have days like that but have you thought of drifting a float fished bait in amongst it? Just thinking out loud!
Not a bad idea. Never float fished before. Got any suggestions for a rig setup?
Fishing is a nightmare when weed turn up.fishing don't always go to plan just have to do the best you on the day there allways next time.all the best woody 😂😂😂
Very true Woody but its really disappointing when you just feel its going to be a really good day. Like you ast though, better luck next time. Thanks for taking the time to watch & comment Woody, tight lines.
Use john hall m8
Thanks John, I’ll give him a go. Tight lines.
Use John Hall at Runton great bait always available. The other outfit you use are a waste of time.
I think you are right, I’ve never had a problem before though. It would be a shame to see the shop disappear. Tight lines.
Good effort. Once that weed turns up it's a nightmare. North Norfolk Bait supplies (John Hall) excellent bait, fresh and frozen, good selection and reliable 👍
Never had problem with Rays before but looking at the state of the shop and him only accepting cash I’m not surprised he let me down. Hope he gets it all sorted out. I would like to order from him next time but I don’t want to let down again. It would be a shame to see the shop disappear. Thanks for the comment, tight lines David.
Cannot fault bait from John Hall and he is 100% reliable👍
I did speak to John when Rays let me down but he was out doing deliveries so couldn’t help me. He sounded a good bloke and I haven’t had anyone say a bad thing about him, every one has been very complimentary. I’ll give him a go next time but it would be a shame to see Rays disappear from West Runton. Thanks for watching & commenting James. Tight lines.
think you may have had the same problem as me, lure is too big. try a mini/micro lure with a 3g weight
Thanks for the advice. I’ll give it a go. Probably not until autumn/winter. Tight lines trol9926
Hello mate I am just new to fishing in uk , learning now I am just planning to go fishing in sept second week, is clay good in sept, please give me suggestions
Welcome Vishnuu. Cley will be as good as anywhere. Suggest tackle wise to use a 2 or 3 hook flapper rig with small size 2 hooks. If the fish are there that will catch them, big or small. Bait wise I would suggest fresh Lug worm from "‘Rays of Runton” in West Runton, order a day or two in advance if possible. Unfortunately you can never guarantee to catch but I wish you good luck
I was let down by Rays of Runton the other day so I suggest trying John Hall of East Runton instead. Tel:07502 355524
Well done I blanked at hopton last week😢
The only reason I didn’t blank was perseverance and a hefty dose of luck! Hope things improve for you next time out. Tight lines Rob.
Well done in the end, saving the old blank with ya schoolie mate. The humber is fishing well at the minute. All the best from G.Y.
Thanks Carl. Amazing how one little fish can cheer a person up. Glad you’re getting plenty of fish at the moment, hope they migrate south soon. We need them down here.😂 Keep well Carl, tight lines.
Great to watch as always, many thanks for sharing Sir :) Hope all good with you and please keep the videos coming. Best regards, Robert.
Thank you very much for the kind comment. I hope next time I can catch a few more fish for you Robert.Wishing you all the best. Tight lines
Nice video mate, at least it wasn't a blank. Fishing around the North Norfolk coast has also been slow apart from some of the local lads who put a lot of hours in , they have had bass and smoothhound on the sandy beaches.
You definately need to be in the right place at the right time especially at the moment. That Bass may have been small but gave the impression of one much bigger by the size of the bite, never had so much action on the rod for such a small fish, but it meant I avoided the blank. Thanks Michael for the watch and comment. Tight lines.
Happy days my friend thank God no blank love watching your videos thanks keep them coming cheers
Thanks Clive, you’re very kind. I’ll be out filming again soon, hopefully with more than one fish. Tight lines.
I'm not sure why it's fishing as poorly as it is recently, my last session a fortnight ago was the same as yours, 1 solitary bass, untouched baits. Yet go 5 miles up coast and there's stacks of sole.
There may not be many fish about at the moment but its always nice to get out on the beach. You really have to be in the right spot at the right time at the moment and I wasn’t. Better luck next time. Thanks for watching and the comment. Tight lines .
I really like fishing at Dunwich.
I enjoy it more now that I’ve discovered that if you go left of the carpark you avoid all the snags. I’ve lost loads of gear going right of the carpark. Tight lines Stef.
@@theangliaangler Thanks for that I didn’t know.
@@StefG2024 I think you probably need to go a couple of hundred yards to be safe, thats what I‘ve found anyway. I think it might be because most people fish directly in front of the carpark or like I used to, park near the cafe and then go right. Once people start losing tackle it just creates a bigger and bigger snag. Also its easier to walk behind the beach like I did in the video. Good luck.
I usually go right of the car park, got snagged up a few times, but I will try left of the car park and see how it goes 👍
Glad you caught something 👍
So was I. Never has such a small Bass been so gratefully received. Tight lines Stef and thanks for the watch and comment.
All the gear no idea
Thanks for commenting Peter. I look forward to many more in the future.
Not even a Norfolk bloke dabs at best
Great to watch as always thanks for sharing Sir! Been busy buts its great to catch up with your videos again after a while :) Cheers Rob.
Glad you enjoyed your catch up. Aways nice to hear from you. Cheers Robert
Good vid, I had fears of seeing myself staggering past going to The Jolly Sailors!
I had thought of going in there myself but decided against it as I had to drive home. Thanks for watching and the comment. Cheers.🍺
Love watching ur videos…. What beach shelter u using I use a bigaloo urs seems so much more compact
On the fishingmegastore.com web site its called a DAMS IMAX Iconic Competition Beach Shelter. On offer at £95 RRP£189.99. Or on the Angling Direct web site its called a IMAX FR Competition Beach Shelter at £129.99. Both are the same thing, as far as I can see, same picture used on both web sites. I weighed mine, complete in bag. Just under 4kg/9lbs. Hope this helps. Just one thing, there is a bit of a knack of putting up and down as the legs are jointed so they can be folded in half. Maybe should do a video showing how I do it. Glad you like the videos Rob, tight lines.
@@theangliaangler thanks for that much appreciated
Nice one for another vid chief. Well done. All the best from G.Y
Thanks Carl. I do my best. Tight lines from NORWICH.
Another entertaining session, (it's not all about catching), and I just love the "dangling spoons"😂 The last section is, I believe, the most informative and demonstrates just how important kit management is with almost all forms of angling; well done for showing that and I may steal the idea for my next one🤣😂🤣 And, if the sea is reluctant to give up her bounty, perhaps it's time for a return to the Pike fishing in Norwich? 🤔
I got fed up of not being able to find a spoon when i needed it or losing them completely! Hence the dangling spoons. I must admit I take far too much kit with me but I also know if I take less I’ll need the very thing I’ve left at home, Sods law you know. As for the pike fishing I will get round to doing more soon, other things keep getting the way. Glad you are enjoying my little videos. Thanks for watching and the comment, tight lines.
Nice vid mate picture quality really good
Thank you Steve, just filmed on my phone. No fancy video recorder. I did splash out on a decent wireless microphone though. The action cam I use is only a cheapish one, not a GoPro.
I had similar issues with dongle rigs at Cley, it's dogfish. They chew and hang on to the bait without connecting with the hook. Then they drop off, often at your feet where you can see them swim off.
Thats quite possible, I need to persevere with the dongle rig. I’m sure I’ll be ok with it once I catch a few fish on it. Just not confident with it yet. Thanks for watching George and commenting. Tight lines.
Nice video mate, I miss fishing off the shingle but there is no way that I could manage it at the moment. I have been using small squid and lug wraps dongle fashion on small circle hooks on my local beach and have had a few flatties all lip hooked with them. I use a bit of green garden twine a few inches long with a couple of knots in them to lash the bait to and then just put the hook through the twine below a knot, seems to work ok for me.
I’ve done some thing very similar on one of my previous videos, I can’t remember which one though. I did have some success with it but have slipped back into old habits. I must give it another try as it does reduce the number of deep hook ups. Thanks for watching and the comment, tight lines Michael.
Another great video my friend some nice fish but I did not like that wind but you stuck it out top man keep them coming
Thanks Clive. Should be another video soon.
