Thanks Robert, I’ll keep trying. Roll on 16th June.
Might wait a few days after that as there is always a lot of people fishing in the first few days of the new season. Thanks again.
Hope you’re having a good Easter.

Always good to try a new style of fishing, adding strings to your bow. Every great fishing story starts with a cast! 🎣

It certainly does. Casting when amongst the trees is a skill I will have to master. Practice makes perfect. Thanks for watching and commenting. Tight lines.

🎉welcome to the Dark Side aka lure fishing mate.
I agree with the other chap, Braid will slice through anything 😮 so take care.. I only use it on my Shimano Calcutta multipliers as it twists like a pig 🐖. If you ever travel to the West Country, I can set you up for a day's Salmon fishing which will definitely put a bend in (even), that rod 😆

Agree about the braid, but at least it means you can get out the snags, shopping trolleys, branches etc. Well most of the time anyway.
Think I might be a bit out of my depth salmon fishing, but I’d be willing to give it a go if I ever come your way.
Thank you very much. Tight lines.

Great to see you mention that was filmed before season closed, what I would just say if you are going to be lure/drop fishing Fishing Republic at Go Outdoors stock a cheap but bulletproof Trout/Perch Combo that I swear by for years now

I used to fish the Wensum back when I was a young kid for pike. But that was a way from here at Swanton Morley. Then after leaving school, I went to work on a sma;; cpaster and would occassionally run thru Yarmouth to Norwaich, on the broads, to the Colemans factory. Never actually got around to fishing the place tho. Now, living in Harwich, I like to lure fish for bass in the summer, locally. My biggest problem used to be finding out which lures to use and when. Both costly and time consuming, but at least you get to learn what your local fish react better to. and when they want them too.
Word of advice tho mate. Use a piece of wood or something like an old tea towel with the line wrapped around it to heave on your braid with when you get snagged. That stuff will cut through your neoprene gloves and skin really easily.

I had towel with me, never thought to use it! I’ll carry on once the close season has finished. The only way to learn is to do it.
I might have a go for Bass as well. In it to win it.
      Thanks for watching and commenting.

By the way, to stop the reel spinning backwards as in reverse when it has a load such as a fish or branch or whatever there is a small flick switch at the bottom of your reels body, it will lock the reel in retrieve only and not allow the backwards spinning as I noted throughout the video. You may have already figured that out, and if so my aim was not to teach you to such eggs. Tight lines and another subscriber for you.

Welcome John. Don’t worry about teaching me to suck eggs, any advice is always welcome. Glad you enjoyed the video and subscribed. The lure fishing will resume after the close season, hopefully actually catching a Pike or two.Tight lines John.

    Welcome to lure fishing.
    Some helpful tips:
    1) Don’t use snaps/swivels most of the time, bite the bullet and tie direct. The results will better and you’ll never have an issue with the hardware not going through the guides
    2) always close the bail with your hand, not by turning the handle. You’ll eliminate line twist, knots and won’t wear out your bail spring
    3) that rod/reel seems overly heavy for what you’re casting, that could explain your knot ball.
    4) If that is a rear drag reel, think about replacing it with a front drag model. You lose 2/3 of your drag power with a rear drag and the front drag isn’t inconvenient like people say it is. I’ve never understood their logic.
That’s all for now. I fish 2-3 days a week for smallmouth bass in the US (one of the hardest fighting freshwater fish on the planet pound for pound) and I work at Bass Pro Shops, in case you wondered about my bona fides.
    Good luck!

Thanks for the advice. I always close the bale arm by hand when I’m fishing from the beach so don’t really know why I wasn’t in the video. Concentrating on other things I suppose.
The Diawa reel I bought has got just a front drag as have all my beach reels so thats not a problem for me. I hope you have great success with your fishing there in the US. You sound like a good salesman as well. Tight lines.

@@theangliaanglermate please dont ever go spin fishing without a decent barrel or snap swivel on your line esp if your using inline lures like mepps (which i rate as the best all round beginner spin fishing lure) or spoons, when you cast very lightly feather your line with your finger (takes a bit of practice) as your lure travels out it will prevent bellies in your line which is a major cause of wind knots and birds nests as is fishing with no swivel

think you may have had the same problem as me, lure is too big. try a mini/micro lure with a 3g weight
