Guitar Stuffery for the discerning Guitar-er
Why My WEIRD Shaped Room is a YouTube Set Up DISASTER
I've been in this weird shaped room for over 12 years now.
There are worse things in life - but this is ANNOYING!
In this video, I'm outlining the problems I've had filming, livestreaming and editing videos for my Guitar UA-cam Channel.
I've already started making improvements, and should have a part 2 follow up vid out in the next few weeks. So consider this the "Before" vid and "after" to follow...
We'll have this all sorted out in 2025 - Promise! 😁👍

Great video, and thanks for sharing all the useful information for other guitar UA-cam fellas! Congrats on your successes, and I have no doubt 2025 will be even better!
String trees... Really??
Always!! 😂👍
Scotland looks beautiful
Agreed mate! 🤩 Freezing today though! 🥶
I think we can figure out who wants to sing from the crowd cam, lmao i'm sure he had a blast.
Ha! He does look like the culprit eh? But it wasn't him - the other guy was in a worse state 😂👍
Hi Steve. I've really enjoyed watching you over the years. You remind me of myself, very self critical, but You've achieved an awful lot and should be proud. I was drawn to your channel because of your personality and unique style. Not everyone has this.
Thank you so much for your kind words mate 😀🙏 I try not to be so hard on myself, but I've just been in a bit of a slump recently. Working on it though 💪😀 Thanks again! 🙏
Hi Steve, I love your videos, could you do a comparison between your Jet Js 400 and the Harley Benton plus, explaining which one you like more and why? Thank you very much for your videos!
Thank you so much mate! I'm not sure If I filmed that video or not - I've got 12 vids I've not edited yet - I'm waaaay behind! 😂🙈 But to save you time - I prefer the JS400, I don't really like the ST Modern plus that much to play. It's got great specs on paper, but I just don't enjoy the neck profile. I only have 1 more vid to film with the ST modern, then I'll be moving it on. I LOVE the Jet necks! I have a JS300, JS400 (x3) a JS450, and I'm seriously considering getting a JS 500 😂🙈 If I liked the neck on the ST Modern plus - I'd probably prefer the ST Modern (non plus). The things that make the Plus more expensive.. The Babicz trem, Luminlay side dots, flame maple neck and Tesla Pickups are not really to my taste anyway. I'd say both the Harley Benton's are better value for money and higher specced. But I prefer the neck feel and sound of the Jets. That's the review done mate 😂👍 Hope that helps
I know it annoys you because you are the perfectionist we love. I know you'll get it all sorted ; you're on a mission! We would love you the same in a mud hut❤
Awww Thank ya so much for the support as always! 😀🙏 Hope Team Cuthill is doing great! 😀
Is that the same sofa my ass used to play guitar on
HA! Yes! More than likely 😂👍 The one before it was almost identical too 🙈
Well you kept that new 2025 'Steve Cassidy DIY' channel quiet on the last vid didn't you? Sneaky!! Interesting to see the rest of the Mothership...I always pictured a door up on the wall with the window! 🤯 Mind blown!! Exciting times! LOVE a bonus vid by the way, you're spoiling us! 🙂Speaking of which, do you think John Cordy watched your 2025 round up and heard you say you were going to watch less YT? I think it might be why he decided to suddenly do a 3+ hour livestream (good effort with the Starcasters question btw - I think he needs convincing tho 😂😂😂)
Ha Cheers mate! 😂👍 I'd love to hear Cordy on a Starcaster! 😁👌 I missed the first 2 hours of his stream but man... He's just too good 😎👌
Believe me you’re room is clean and tidy compared to my mates studio he’s known as Mr Messy!🙄
I'm not gonna lie, I did move the coffee mug and pint glass off the desk - I'm not an animal!! 😂👍
@stevecassidyguitar lol i should think so too!😅
It appears that I am viewer # 666 as I am watching this. LOL.
I hope that's a good sign!? 👹 😂🤞 Thanks for watching mate 🙏
@stevecassidyguitar It is a good thing, indeed. 666 is 665+1, LOL.
I like the shape room Steve is fantastic 😂😊
Thank you mate! The experts here have told me it's actually ideal for sound - I didn't know that and I'm pretty happy about it now 😀👍
epic shred at 5:15. nice gig man! sounds great and the crowd is into it!
You got 5:15!?!? 🤯 Thank you mate! 😂🙏
@ I actually got to no diggity which was cool too!
I thought your black wall by the desk, with the guitars hanging, looked great! I feel your pain about the radiator - my only space is in the garage with pipes from the tankless water heater going into the wall. Oh, and my refrigerator. I'm looking forward to seeing what you do! Cheers, mate!
Cheers mate thank you! I've had a load of great suggestions here about how to do it all properly with bespoke furniture etc but... I got too impatient 😂 I've painted the radiator now, put up wallpaper (Nightmare 😅), Now Sofa and drawers in today. Desk arrives on Monday then the Hangers will hopefully arrive by the end of next week (Thomann) 😀👍 Not the smartest way to do it - But probably the quickest 😂
@stevecassidyguitar I've never hung wallpaper, I've only removed it (probably why I've never hung it!). I can't wait to see the new look! Cheers!
@@TonJager72 It looks almost identical 😂🙈
Congrats. I can relate to so much of this. It seems all my videos surge up, then after about 4 days, they completely fall off. I feel like I basically have to keep posting, no video seems to last. I also agree that getting a big hit on a video can be damaging. It's all about titles to draw people in, but then you can be assured some people will criticize you for using "click bait". It's like people don't want you to actually want them to click on your videos! LOL. It's like a paradox. I notice that cheap guitar reviews do really well. Pedals not so much. Personal anecdotes also not so much. You're doing great though, so keep it up. I agree having sponsors would be helpful. It's pretty hard to make a profit when all your money goes to buying gear. Here's to a great new year.
Mate you've did an incredible Job with your channel and had a great year last year! It took me 10 months to hit 1k - You're at 3k already! 🤯🥳👍 You've got the titles and thumbnails nailed down mate - I'm sure 2025 is gonna be a great year for your channel! 10k before the year is out - Easy! 😎👍 And thank you for your kind words too sir 😀🙏
False partition walls against existing walls to make square ...... Maybe? 'Gyprock' Sheets ... not TOO expensive I don't think .... All the Best Cheers
Fantastic idea mate thank you! My Step dad is a retired joiner who would gladly help, but I got too impatient 😂 I've painted the radiator now, put up wallpaper (Nightmare 😅), Now Sofa and drawers in today. Desk arrives on Monday then the Hangers will hopefully arrive by the end of next week (Thomann) 😀👍 Not the smartest way to do it - But probably the quickest 😂
Thank you for showing this to me amigo! I am actually pretty decent at design and interior design. So let's do this! First thing with your room, get rid of everything you don't use or haven't used in a year and will not miss. The fundamental flaw of where you are is that everything is cobbled together and what I am hearing you say is "take it to the next level" like what Rhett Schull did to his main UA-cam space. If this were me I would replace the couch, replace the desk and possibly redo the storage. The main issue you are running into is you are looking at a wonky space and trying to shop in a store. The result is YOU CAN get a better setup but to be honest with you, it will only be "Ok/Better" at best but really leave you wanting more. You need a custom desk and shelf/book shelf. In true UA-cam fashion I would tell you to partner up with another channel who does carpentry and do a collaboration video on fixing your space. Also, if you are handy with tools you could make it yourself. I do like the idea of multiple guitars on your wall but if I am being totally honest it would be three hangers on the top tier and two in the middle tier, so while it really only gives you one more, visually it will look better. I think the Starcasters on the top with Strat styles below it will visually give you what you are aiming for. I think eventually you will just have to cycle guitars in and out of this room if you have more guitars. Even Ryan does this on 60 Cycle Hum. In your case, less is more, Marie Kondo the hell out of that space and get rid of what you don't need. Getting custom made furniture and minimizing what you have will give you the look you are going for and put you in the right headspace for UA-cam. I would also probably recommend a newer amp like a Katana mini one that takes up less space than the Fender and looks right in said space. If not the Katana a lunchbox sized amp will work especially if you are using digital effects. I hope this helps.
Thank you so much for all your suggestions mate! You're totally correct on all counts 😎👌 However, unfortunately.... I got too impatient and have went with the "okay-ish, that'll do" option 😂🙈 I've already got new furniture on the way 😬 I did go for a slightly smaller sofa though 😃👍 Painted the radiator last night and put up some foam wall paper today. Hangers and a couple of more appropriate sized desks (with storage) on the way 😅 I know what you mean about that amp being too big, but functionally it's ideal for me. So will have to keep it. Thank you once again for taking the time and giving your (waaaaay better) suggestions though mate - much appreciated 😃🙏
@stevecassidyguitar I stopped the video and am watching the ending and it's an interesting room. The key will be to declutter the room and get rid of what you don't use or you don't need. So "Less is More," in your case. My idea would have been to measure an L shaped desk, use the electric legs from one of those Ikea tables and put them on each end. I would have finished the top in like a Fender style amp Rolex to continue with the guitar theme. That's just me. I still think a newer and smaller amp that can plug in to the back of your computer will simplify your life and make your space neater. Make a record bowl and put all your bits and bobs in that so they are out of the way on your desk.
@@gringogreen4719 The Amp Tolex is a great Idea! Wish I'd thought of that! 😎👍 Since you said - I've been looking at a used Mustang GT40 - It's smaller/shorter and is compatible with my GTX50 footswitch. Only thing it doesn't have is aline out for going into my interface. But It does have a USB out. Still investigating If I can make that work 👍
@stevecassidyguitar I know that you and I are old school but moving everything onto the computer would free up space and simplify things. Otherwise a smaller, modern amp that plugs into your computer would be the next logical thing. You could also do the "head into a box" thing but most of the channels that do this tend to be Metal ones. I have a Vox VT 30 and with a 10 inch speaker (upgraded to a Jensen MOD) that would be a bit loud and big for that room. I've even gigged with that amp. I also have a Roland JC 120 which is "Overkill" by definition for a UA-cam channel and I have a Blackstar Fly 3 amp with an extension cabinet which is what Johnny uses on the Budget Guitar Channel, sounds ok for what he does too. For what you play either in a computer or a smaller amp would still get you to your tone. I'm just looking for practicality. It's not like you are playing Stoner Rock and need a Orange full stack behind you with a massive pedal board! I mean, even your Live Rig is essentially amp-less. Getting rid of what you don't need or you don't use is going to do you the most favors. Oh by the way, you can still put Tolex over furniture if you want to. That would be something more for you than anyone else. 😉👍✨
I share your pain Steve. Maybe you have a mate who is a kitchen fitter / joiner who could build you a bespoke desk at a suitable height to fit the odd wall angles . If not, you could appeal your channel viewers for help. Just an idea - keep the guitars at high level and install a raised floor to lift you up and use the space below to store your excess kit. On the plus side you have a good selection of guitars and the room shape must be an advantage when recording !
Fantastic ideas mate thank you!
@stevecassidyguitar I look forward to seeing the finished job soon. What about a livestream virtual tour?
👍🏻👍🏻
Thank ya mate! 😃🙏
i feel a lot better about my rectangle like room now 😄, those measurements are not easy to deal with, those desk heights and side things are crazy what i did thanks to my girlfriend, we got bigger planks of wood from the hardware store to put on top of the two desks that i had (instead of raising the tables), oiled the wood so it looks nice, screwed them onto the tables (on the side with screws and a metal join) and effectively gave me a nice L shaped desk setup, so it widened one desk, and the other one then had the height to match you can then also cut the wood to better fit the dimensions of the room, without having to either change your desk or find a suitable desk that would fit your room measurements if that makes sense, i think that's probably the best way of dealing with those awkward measurements, at least that's how i'd look at doing it
First, you just rock up here, bammin' off about your awesome rectangle room and all your tidy right angles - Then... you come up with great ideas that I would never have thought of! 🧐 😜 Cheers mate! 😂👍 That plank idea is a actually genius - Wish I thought of that before I ordered all that new furniture in a rage last night 🙈
@stevecassidyguitar 😄 happy to help, have to really thank the lady in my life, she really had the brains and DIY skills on this one I look forward to the interestingly shaped new furniture then 🙌
I can give you an address where you can store your unused guitars for FREE. It's in the USA, but I know that the guitars will be given love and attention. 🤣 I think I need a UA-cam Feng shui expert to help me with my guitar studio! From my time in Europe, I noticed that all the history equated to a lot of goofy shaped buildings, rooms and roads.
Thanks mate - please do send that address on - Sounds like an ideal solution! 😂👌 This room I'm in is part of an extension on the rest of this old Victorian house. This room used to be like a laundry room or something apparently. Which still doesn't explain why the walls are wonky 😂🤷♂️
You could get a worktop cut to fit the room angles and make a great work space👍. You could also put all your furniture on pallets to raise the floor level instead of lowering your guitars🤔😉🤓. I'm happy to help.....as always!😇
Great suggestions mate! My step dad is a retired joiner who would have been happy to help with this, But I got too impatient and just got a load of furniture, that should hopefully fit better 🤞 Searching for tone also mentioned raising the couch. If I can't fit my hard case under the new sofa, I'll definitely look into that - Cheers! 🙏
@stevecassidyguitar I was joking about raising the floor level, but fair play to Searching for Tone on his comment on raising the sofa.😎👍👍👍
👍🏻👍🏻
Cheers mate! 😀🙏
