Great video, it's fascinating to see what a guitar store in China actually looks like! There are some cool guitars in there. Some of which may or not be Gibsons 'cough'. Those are a bit dodgy but the rest actually look pretty legit. I get some proper vitriolic comments on my channel about anything to do with certain regions. I remove hate so no biggy (but it is horrible to deal with). It's so interesting to see what the landscape actually looks like. It's like anywhere, you get some reputable and some not so reputable companies doing business. Often the good ones can get lumped in with the bad which is plain unfair. There's a lot of misconceptions so any insight is valuable! Keep it up! BTW I think this video is great as it's a break from 'normal' guitar reviews. I'm burnt out on them personally at the moment unless there's something amazing to say - even if I sometimes do them too lol... I think we all need something a bit different like this! Yay!
Thank you so much mate! 😃🙏 Yes... there's been a few people commenting here that instantly assume everything is fake because the shop is in China. @@stevecassidyguitar I have to admit I was watching this and wondering the same thing, mostly because I guitar shop on eBay a lot so I see a lot of examples of very detailed copies, and no longer just of high-end names but pretty much anything and everything. I saw a Kyle Bull video of one of them turning up in the used section of Guitar Center (as a "real" ESP), too, so it's really concerning when you don't have a ridiculously low retail price (like on eBay) to clue you in.
Nice walkthrough! That sparkle pink ESP is the signature model of Takayoshi Ohmura. There's a super high end custom shop version that's all pink including the fretboard and pickguard for around £10k. The white Eclipse beside it is James Hetfield's famous Iron Cross.

Hi Steve, what a cool store! I don't think they could have crammed any more guitars in there if they tried. It's hard to believe the shop was so deserted. Yes please, post some more of these.
Thank you for the feedback mate! 😃🙏 Yeah they definitely made the most of the space! There's a lot of music shops on that particular street and we went in the morning on a weekday. I was surprised that this China music shop shunned Left handed players like most U.S. Guitar shops. Great video . The 333 is Paul Gilbert’s Ibanez. He is known for the painted f holes on an RG style body. Btw you should ask any guitarists you bumped into, do they or any of their friends buy the Knock off guitars or they all stick to non knock off guitars.
I wasn't familair with the 333, but I'm very familair with the old Ibanez PGM models with the painted F holes, I was having a laugh at myself because I put an F hole decal on one of my Starcasters 😜

I have been under the weather for a week or so and so missed a few videos and did not know you were venturing out to China, you lucky so and so! I recently made an addition to my Telecaster collection, an AIO TC1 Dark Walnut neck through Tele, I had always wanted a set neck or a neck through model and had never seen the AIO neck through guitars, they give you a custom set up via a menu when you order the guitar and mine is perfect, not to low and not too high, the nut was cut perfectly and the first fret notes are bang on, it sounds very nice, quite different from any of my other Asian import Telecasters but close to my 1986 Fender USA Tele apart from having a humbucker in the neck. I was considering having a few weeks at Crimsons Luthiary School to build one as I never thought I would find anyone selling one, my other wish list guitar is a Les Paul with a Flying V headstock and so I might still go to Crimson and build that guitar.
Hope you're feeling better mate - and congrats on your new AIO 😃👍 I'm the worst at DIY and anything with my hands, so the Crimson thing (as much as I love thier content and guitars) wouldn't be for me. But I reckon you should go for it mate! Ya only live once 😃👍

Zheng'An, is the city that makes ALL the guitars in China. Zero flights from Beijing, but that would be a cool place to roll film. I would be highly skeptical if you could just roll in without your diplomatic escort and get access. I have always been curious what the guitar stores have on the shelfs in Zheng'An, precisely which brands come out, and to lay eyes on one of the actual master luthiers who crank out the hollow bodies and acoustics and set up the CnC lines.
Great info! Thanks for this 😃👍 I always wondered where all the factories were, and never thought they'd all be mostly concentrated in one area. Good to know for future - cheers! 😃👍
I'd like to see you "wheel and deal" with a salesperson and see if they're flexible on prices-especially on a Gibson. That'll tell you a lot about if they're the real deal or not. Also check out the case candy and goodies that come with Gibby's and Leo's to look for the authentication paperwork. Also, do they have a back room available for testing them out? That would make for a fun video! Cheers from Idaho, USA! 🎸🤘🇺🇸
Cheers mate! 😃🙏 I think the pricing say's it all. I don't believe they're not the real deal - If they were not, they'd be cheaper. The prices there were pretty much the same as back here in the UK. I was with my GF "Yoshi" (She's Chinese) she told me that it's very unlikely for a man of my complexion, to have any kind of success in bartering. 😂
My experience in Chinese guitar stores, the ones that I can find as there are not many outside the main cities never have them set up or remotely tune and even have the fret boards taped and covered in paper and very reluctant to let you try unless you almost promise to buy it. I have been in China for some years and struggle to find good stores. if anyone knows of somewhere near Suzhou in Jiangsu let me know. Shanghai has some but way too expensive and some only stock top end guitars. I used to travel to Jinan and that has a good one but its too far away. There is a second hand app but you can never be sure what you re getting.
I noticed many of the stores in Beijing had the guitars hanging on the wall wrapped in cling film. I never asked to try anything, but one shop owner pushed me to try a couple of guitars and I'm glad I did. They both had perfect set ups. I was actually in Jinan most of the time during the trip as that's my GF's hometown. I didn't know about the guitar store there. Will have to check it out next time - cheers! 😃👍 We're gonna check out Shanghai next year too 😁👍
I don't remember noticing any Eastman strings soz. There was a load of instrument shops on that street though. Loads of classical and Chinese traditional instruments too.
Thank ya so much for the feedback! 😃🙏 It's looking like there will be more then 👍 Wasn't sure how this would go down - It was so low effort (well... except for the travelling to China part 😂)
The Coral Red Strat with a matching headstock says Player Series on the pickguard label, meaning that it's a Made in Mexico. It is somewhat similar to the still available Tash Sultana signature HSS Strat from a few years ago, though that model was a darker red (Transparent Cherry), with a pearlescent pickguard, and gold hardware. It too was Made in Mexico, though at £1,350 it's not far short of twice the price of a regular MIM Strat.
I've since found another one in Germany on Reverb and another one out of stock in Merchant City Music in Glasgow (So close to home! 😂🙈). Turns out it's a "Limited Edition" (Not FSR) Fender Player HSS Strat in Fiesta Red 👍

Hi! Loved the video. Some looked great, but a few looked suss. Why are they no cheaper than in Australia??? Makes no economical reason not to substantially cheaper than Australia.
I noticed the prices were about the same as in the UK too. In one of the other shops I visited, the Fender Players were about the same price as back home too
I don't think you'll EVER find a music store in the states with a wall of horns like that next door store has, cool. As far as I'm seeing those prices are in line more or less with what I would pay in the states, I would imagine they have a ton of cheap Firefly type brands for pennies on the dollar. I would enjoy some more China based videos, as long as you can do it safely

That's an interesting question. I'm not presuming any of these are fakes though. They could be, but nothing stood out as a red flag to me when I was there, but maybe I just don't know what to look for? 🤷♂️
Cheers mate! and... good question - I'll have to go obver the vid again with Yoshi (my GF and professional translator 😜) to double check the clips, but from memory, I can't remember seeing any 🤔
@13.12 all over this section the lighting is just right to see all the waterslide edges around the "Fender" logos on the headstocks. I mean fender don't use those. (I do on my "Thunder" range of parts casters for home use, which is why I recognise waterslides when I see them) It does make you wonder if there is a single guitar here that wasn't ...erm fabricated reasonably locally.
I do know what you mean - but I thought that was standard fare for the relic custom shop stuff? I'm in Dunfermline tomorrow at another Kenny's vintage & pre-owned roadshow, I'm sure they'll have more there, so I'll have a closer look tomorrow 👍

@@tvtothepoint Fair point but judging by the prices that Steve quoted I think they must be genuine, after all we wouldn't buy a Chibson at Gibson prices and I assume that the Chinese wouldn't either.

Yeah soz mate - didn't even realise until all the lefties piled in to point that out 🙈
I do feel for you lefties tho, you're always poorly catered for - Tis a Crime! 💪
Please forgive my leftignorance 😬🙏
China has GREAT guitar shops 👌
I only got to see a few in Beijing, but I bet theres loads more all over China. I'm going to try to get to Shanghai next year 😃👍
Great video, it's fascinating to see what a guitar store in China actually looks like!
Yes... there's been a few people commenting here that instantly assume everything is fake because the shop is in China. I didn't feel like that at all when I was in there 🤷♂️ I've kept the comments up though (for now)
Sorry to hear you've lost your... appetiteforguitar... reviews 😜
I actually felt guilty posting this vid as it was so low effort compared to a guitar review 😂
Thanks again mate 😃👍
@@stevecassidyguitar I have to admit I was watching this and wondering the same thing, mostly because I guitar shop on eBay a lot so I see a lot of examples of very detailed copies, and no longer just of high-end names but pretty much anything and everything. I saw a Kyle Bull video of one of them turning up in the used section of Guitar Center (as a "real" ESP), too, so it's really concerning when you don't have a ridiculously low retail price (like on eBay) to clue you in.
A lot of very nice instruments in there to be fair. The very first fender up on the wall caught my eye.
Oh yeah! That one is a cracker 😎👌 love that honeyburst finish -or whatever finish that is 🤷♂️
Great video mate. The At100 Ibanez. Stunning guitar for a stunning player. Super cool to boot.
100% I never realised it was a matt or Satin finish until seeing it up close. Very cool indeed 😎👌
Nice walkthrough! That sparkle pink ESP is the signature model of Takayoshi Ohmura. There's a super high end custom shop version that's all pink including the fretboard and pickguard for around £10k. The white Eclipse beside it is James Hetfield's famous Iron Cross.
Awesome! 😃 Thank ya so much for the info mate! 🙏 I think the 10k one sounds more up my street colourwise - I'll get that one! 😂😜
Great video, mate. Thanks for sharing 👍
Thank ya kindly mate! 😃🙏
Love these walkthroughs and looks at guitars from foreign lands. More, please!
Brilliant! Thank you for the feedback mate! I can definitely do more 😃👍

Nice display of a Gibson Greeny, with a picture of James Hetfield😅
I never even spotted that - nothing gets past you mate 🤓👍
These Chinese guitars are probably set up properly in the store unlike the ones sent over by mail order.
I wish i tried some out so I could tell you. But I felt I'd already intruded too much by filming without buying anything 😬 Was feeling a bit shy too 😂
My experience in Chinese guitar stores, the ones that I can find as there are not many outside the main cities never have them set up or remotely tune and even have the fret boards taped and covered in paper and very reluctant to let you try unless you almost promise to buy it.
Nice video Steve, more of this type of thing. enjoyed that.
Thank you so much mate -I'll definitely get more out 😃👍
Hi Steve, what a cool store! I don't think they could have crammed any more guitars in there if they tried. It's hard to believe the shop was so deserted. Yes please, post some more of these.
Thank you for the feedback mate! 😃🙏
Yeah they definitely made the most of the space!
There's a lot of music shops on that particular street and we went in the morning on a weekday.
I think most people were commuting to work. In the evening from around 4-5pm the shops get much busier with a lot of them doing guitar lessons on the shop floor.
10:00 - Gibson SG Deluxe - Lime Burst, absolutely legit, 2013 limited edition,,, nobody would fake that 😂
Lamby knows the year and everything! 😎👌
That was definitely one of my favourites 👍👍

I was surprised that this China music shop shunned Left handed players like most U.S. Guitar shops. The market has opened up over the years though as Lefties like myself can find those southpaw guitars online. Reverb, Sweetwater, Guitar center etc. give lefty options. China does plenty of kits, copies that you can get online.
Now it's all gone😂(the commens)... I like the channel ✌️

Thanks for the video Steve! Some nice reasonably priced guitars! Thanks for mentioning my name...Dragan ( you said dragon fruit ) lol. Enjoy your trip and thanks for sharing!

@stevecassidyguitar haha, yes Dragon fruit is one of my favorite fruits from Asia. Cheers!
Well done on the views.

Japan appears to have some of the best music stores in the world. I’ve never been but seen several videos. They're known for hoarding rare 60’s &70’s Les Pauls and pre CBS Strats. ESP factory is also there and you can buy an authentic ESP. If you can escape where you’re at head to Tokyo. Thanks for sharing your final video and Good luck!

Thank ya kindly for the feedback mate! 😃🙏
Re the Gibson headstocks - I honestly wouldn't know, I'm such a Gibson noob 😂🙈
Hope you're feeling better mate - and congrats on your new AIO 😃👍
I'm the worst at DIY and anything with my hands, so the Crimson thing (as much as I love thier content and guitars) wouldn't be for me.

Not a single explorer or V. I loved that green SG.

Cheers for the feedback mate! 😃🙏 I'll definitely get the other ones out too
I'd like to see you "wheel and deal" with a salesperson and see if they're flexible on prices-especially on a Gibson.
I think the pricing say's it all.
@stevecassidyguitar
I've found men of "out complexion" usually don't need to bargain as hard - for a variety of reasons.
Thanks for the reply.
They sure know how to utilise space in that there shop
That's a very polite way of putting it 😂👌
My experience in Chinese guitar stores, the ones that I can find as there are not many outside the main cities never have them set up or remotely tune and even have the fret boards taped and covered in paper and very reluctant to let you try unless you almost promise to buy it.

Any of those shops sell Eastman strings? I'd love to see a selection of their arch tops, mandolins, etc.
I don't remember noticing any Eastman strings soz. There was a load of instrument shops on that street though. Loads of classical and Chinese traditional instruments too.

Love it. This might be the first time in history that someone pronounced their name with a Scottish accent.
Ha! Possibly 😂 I think out of my several attempts, I got one of them kinda close 😂🙈

Thanks Steve!
Always good to see how the other half's doing.. how'd you go with the language mate..?
My sister's bloke was from Dundee, took him 30yrs to speak Australian-ish!
Deffo interested if you wanna show more, appreciate the effort that goes into editing vids like this.👍🏼
The reason I was in China, was to meet my GF's (Yoshi) family for the first time. But of course I managed to fit in some cheeky guitar hunting.
In terms of the language, I was 100% reliant on Yoshi's translations 😬
I managed to survive on "Hello" and "Thank you" for the entire trip (in mandarin of course) - but I'm not proud of it 😂🙈
I'll definitely put out the other vids like this - believe it or not it was a super low effort edit and is unexpectedly doing pretty well 😃👍

@@stevecassidyguitarhaha, then I’d have no hope! As long as it looks and plays well, and I can afford it, that’s good enough for me 😜
@@Mr_Ashley They'd all be genuine. The factories producing Chibsons are a completely separate world from the regular high street music shops in China.

@13.12 all over this section the lighting is just right to see all the waterslide edges around the "Fender" logos on the headstocks. I mean fender don't use those.
