    To be fair, it's doubtful any acoustic guitar, travel or otherwise, would stay in tune owing to the pressure and temperature changes which occur during a flight. The pressure at sea level is typically 14.7 psi, but an airliner cabin such as the one on that Lufty A321, is pressurised to equate to 8,000 feet on a standard day, which is 8.5 psi. Then you have the cabin temperature, which would be a minimum of at least 18°C, but is more likely to be nearer 23°C, and possibly more than that if the A/C isn't doing a great job during its time at the gate prior to pushback and taxying to the runway.
    That's considerably warmer than the average for Dundee in September, which is between 11 and 17°C, so it's a big temperature change down and then back up again which the guitar has gone through in the space of maybe two hours, depending on check in duration. Those pressure and temperature changes will inevitably affect the contraction or expansion characteristics of a guitar's wood and the metal of the strings too of course, particularly in a soft gig bag which provides little in the way of insulation, so it was really fairly impressive that a take-down wooden acoustic managed to keep some of its strings in tune with one another, let alone reasonably close to concert pitch.
    On the minus side for the guitar however, the 'Furch Little Jane' sounds like the name of a mail order sex toy.

      Brilliant! 😂👍 That was a lot of awesome inside info and very scientific - topped off with a great one liner at the end 😂👌
      But yeah it actually wasn't that far out of tune, I was maybe asking too much with DADGAD 😜.
      Apparently it wasn't designed to stay in tune. But with their choices of carbon reinforced neck, Tusq saddle, zero fret and locking tuners, it "mainly" stays in tune as a by product of the above. Pretty cool I thought 😀👍

    Omg, I was belly laughing the entire way through this one! Hilarious and informative all at once! Yes, I’ve noticed nobody seems to know how to say the brand name. Also, the children at the airport were delightful - my nieces and nephews think I’m the coolest aunt because I can play songs for them that they actually recognize. It’s hilarious!

      I was too scared to attempt Baby Shark in DADGAD tho... and in German 😂

    My second trip to Scotland (on my first I was on a whisky only diet) was a business trip. One of the locals took me out to a chippie for an Iron BRU and a piece of fried pizza. We were in Glasgow. Anyway, awesome video and I love those little Jane guitars.

    Great fun watching you travel to Germany and put on a show at Frankfurt airport.👍
    I've never really owned a travel guitar, nor traveled with one. I did buy a Harley Benton Traveler E-Steel guitar once, but it went right back the next day... It was simply too bad a guitar.
    I do have a nice EART GW2 headless guitar. If that counts as a travel guitar 😬

    Coincidentally, I just had a Voyage Air guitar on my bench, just yesterday. That's the one with the folding neck. It failed miserably, which is why it ended up on my bench. And I am not even going o fix it. Your Furch looks better.

    • @stevecassidyguitar
      @stevecassidyguitar  3 місяці тому

      Had never heard of the Voyage Air - Just gave it a wee google. It doesn'y look as well thought out design-wise as the Little Jane. I had to give the Furch back unfortunately ☹️
      What was the issue with the Voyage Air? Or is a vid in the works? I can just watch that 😁👍

    • @GuitarQuackery
      @GuitarQuackery 3 місяці тому +1

      @@stevecassidyguitar There's not video in the works.
      The Voyage Air has a hinged neck joint. It basically did not close all the way, so there was a gap at the heel of the neck, while the adjacent side (where the hinge is) was completely shut. This resulted in an underset neck, which would normally result in high action that can't be fixed by lowering the saddle (after a certain point the saddle on an acoustic guitar cannot be lowered and the guitar needs a neck reset).
      In the Voyage Air, though, the action was actually medium to low (despite the underset neck). But the real problem was the misalignment between the neck and the body.
      Basically, the entire fingerboard extension was elevated, relative to the fretboard, so fretted strings after the 9th fret would fret out completely.

    I travelled to Frankfurt with my travel guitar!!!! Mine is a Steinberger Spirit GT-PRO Deluxe... it is better than NOT having a guitar. However, I'm too bashful to pull it out in the airport.

    I got a Hofner Shorty for travelling to keep up my practice. It doesn't keep tune very well and a very awkward size. Now I take a back up Strat. The Furch acoustic is great - How long will the clip mechanism last though?🤔

    • @stevecassidyguitar
      @stevecassidyguitar  3 місяці тому +1

      Always been intrigued by the wee shorty. Maybe some hardware upgrades could help? Or how about one of those fold out leg stand things like you get one some V's ? Maybe a wee mod idea there 😀🤷‍♂️
      As for the Furch clip - That's a good question I never thought to ask 👍

    Unfortunately I missed it last night, we had visitors, it’s an interesting mechanism but I hope that the mechanism is serviceable. I made an Electric Travel guitar myself in the style of a Chapman stick but acoustic, I got a Harley Benton GS mini knock off. I did have a Martin Backpacker at one time but it was pants 😂
