Saw Cherie the other night. Didnt have a good word to say about Lita. Not very classy there but I still hope for a rock and roll hall of fame for them all, especially in Sandy's honor. I do find the film irritating as they cut out the other band members. My daughter liked it though

Flippin love your content! Man, you are so interesting and descriptive. I don’t know if this is a serious thing for you, but I can see your channel growing if you put out more bands. I can tell you put effort in it, so I understand it takes a minute to put these together. Anyways, keep it up, maybe a Slipknot retrospective and maybe you can expand such as other genres. Some Nick Cave/Birthday Party or Reverend Horton Heat vids would be cool. I loved the X retro. Thanks for being inclusive, another UA-camr (cough cough) Finn Mckenty, who claims to be punk is a conservative. Those people need to stay away from Rock/Metal/Punk! This music is for the outcasts of the world and we want to keep it that way. Take care.

Warrant is a Band that will be remembered for “Cherry Pie” but they also had songs like “Uncle Toms Cabin” which is a deep meaningful and great Rock song. Many Hair Metal Bands had great meaningful songs while also having Pop power Ballads. I can’t think of a single song Mötley Crüe has which is anything like what I described.

Amazing documentary, lot of work went into this and the results speaks for themselves. As for DM, Ultra wasn't a bad album actually, but clearly something was lost and they have never recovered, after Ultra it's been all downhill from there with the very rare exemption here and there (Precious being one of the best dM songs ever). One of the greatest bands in history, but like many others they should have called it a day before it was too late...

I do like Motley Crue and the first time I saw them I really enjoyed it. They played all the classics and put on a great show. Then The Dirt came out..a movie I felt was not good, definitely had the wrong director for the job and missed out a lot of stuff I felt should’ve been prioritised over all the dumb stuff. Then I saw them again and the crowd was different. It wasn’t old school rockers with some younger fans it was a bunch of people who obviously were not fans of rock but saw The Dirt and thought “hey it’s that band from that movie on Netflix, maybe they’ll play that one song I know from the movie. Fights broke out in the crowd, they didn’t even give a shit about the support bands..was basically a pop crowd and I hated it. I wouldn’t be surprised if Motley Crue started showing up on festivals that weren’t even rock or metal orientated. Personally I feel a good biopic would be for Dave Mustaine..guess the only thing is his story isn’t exactly over yet Anyways sorry for long comment. Recently found this channel and really dig it.

This is an age-old thing, though. In the age of the blues men (though women were the first blues performers in the minstrels to be recorded) there were already standards, or songs that everyone knew, in the ether. Most often, ownership, authorship, and rights went to the first guy who recorded and published it. In the 20s of last century, Alan Lomax started doing field recording for the library of Congress, finding all of these regional songs, that were either original, or bore some resemblance to European songs, but changed fundamentally over time. After a while, he realized that other people were grabbing publishing rights when they were up for grabs. So then Alan Lomax started his publishing imprint, making a fortune off of these songs he was hired to find for the LOC. It was around this time that AP Carter also noticed his scheme and contacted him about going into business, as AP Carter was aware of 1000s of unpublished songs, after he learned the ropes of the trade, had his imprint and would go on long excursions "song collecting" and so it goes that one of the greatest American songwriters was little more than a songwriter and a prolific thief. It was also around this time that a guy named Leadbelly pulled a knife on Lomax because of the money he had made on "his songs" which again, he didn't write, but had been collecting for quite some time in the prisons he had stayed in, and as a professional performer on the early chitlin' circuit... at which point, Lomax helped him do the same, so Leadbelly could publish his own as well. That's why you will see alan Lomax's name on thousands of songs, even though he couldn't sing or play music at all... there were clerks at the library of congress that would help in registering the songs contents by analyzing the melody and chord structures to accompany the recordings. Making it very easy for Lomax to just simply file the papers in his name. And once again... a great writer in the american canon is pretty much another thief. Then there are people like Jimmy Rogers... doing the very same thing, but and i'm more western style, and that becomes country music. And when Elvis recorded a song called, That's All Right, Mama, one of the watershed moments in the invention of rock and roll, he was combining styles of country, blues and new electric sounds of what would become Rockabilly. However the song's writer, big boy cruddup, had borrowed the lyrics and melody from an earlier, more obscure blues song, changing very little, but having secured publishing through RCA (also Elvis' label later) he was credited with the song. This was after he had learned of this technique from a guy named tampa red, who some consider the creator of the original chicago, blues scene and sound. Who heard the guy playing on the street one day and offered him some advice, invited him over ended a songwriter workshop with the guy over several days, in which he explained how blues is largely mainly recycled tropes with a little extra personal experience and twists in the style that you prefer... he explained that there's not much ownership in the area of a blues song... new ones sprout from old ones... as he owned hundreds of songs and collected handsome royalty checks on that basis every month. A week later, Cruddup walked out a changed man, playing his own style of blues, and a book of new songs he wrote with Tampa, all of which bore striking resemblances to pre existing songs in the area... songs that he had been exposed to and that other musicians knew and later mentioned by name... but as he went to rca, to record them, he was awarded publishing for all of those... it gets really twisted, the more you go down the rabbit hole... until you have a guy named Alan Klein, encouraging, george harrison to record the song, my sweet lord, even though harrison head recently become aware that he may have unconsciously plagiarized the song, he's so fine. Klein said it's all about ownership, and that he doubted that even if there were similarities that anyone could successfully sue him over that. So harrison recorded it and released it, shortly after his falling out with alan klein, along with the rest of the beatles, he was summarily and almost immediately sued for releasing it, as klein had bought publishing rights to the song "He's so fine" shortly after Harrison had mentioned his misgivings... that's right... klein encouraged him to plagarize the song he had already bought the publishing rights to! Which not surprisingly, was written as an answer song to the the Falcons "you're so fine", button bore a little resemblance. It was written by a 23 year old man named Ronnie Mack. Ronnie was a very poor black man who had been seen at the outsides of various record label buildings offering his songs to sell people of the day. One of the only songs we are aware of is the song Puppy Love, recorded by Paul Anka... and listed as Paul Anka, as the writer. It was a huge hit around 1960. It was reported that ronnie mack had sold songs to several labels through individuals who would buy them. The song He's so Fine, was his first chance actually Write publish and record his own song. In his typical style, he approached a group. Known as the tokens with his songs and his booklet full of them. He said not only did he have a song now, but he had a group to record it. The Chiffons were a group that he assembled, with three singers that all went to school together at the local high school. He found one more singer to add to them, and the session was assembled with the tokens playing musical accompaniment for the first time, as they were known as a vocal group, with a session drummer that they hired. Because of the hit, they had called The Lion Sleeps Tonight, Capital Records had extended them a contract for ten new singles to produce or record themselves. This was their tenth attempt... all of them had flopped and capital passed on releasing this one. Sensing, they had a hit, they had walked it all over town to all the major studios and labels, and none took them up until they reached the small label Laurie Records. The label owner locked the door when he heard the song and said he wasn't going to let the guy leave until he had the right to release it. It became by some accounts, the largest-selling single of 1963. Three days after it hit the number-one spot in the singles charts, Ronnie Mack died of cancer in the hospital. Age 23. He had yet to receive a single royalty check, despite allegedly penning several huge hits. Later, his song as well as the entire label it was released on was bought by a vindictive man Alan Klein, to sue the last Beatle who "betrayed him". When John had recoiled from him, Klein bought the collected works of Alejandro Jodorowsky because he and John had seen The Holy Mountain in the theater and both liked it. He soon saw to it that the movie was never seen again. I wonder who on my list here has even heard of that movie? It's considered one of the classics in cinematography. I don't believe it has had a proper release since its original showing in theaters. In closing, I recommend that if you love music, you should hate lawyers. At least the ones that litigate and normalize the theft of intellectual property. Right now, there's a group called the Chiffons, as well as the Coasters... the Drifters... Foreigner, Little River Band...etc -that are unaffiliated with the original artists of that band. Lawyers are the reason music sucks now. If you know where a lawyer is buried, I recommend visiting them and making a wee-wee in tribute. If you know where a living lawyer is, I recommend the same! They're probably used to it. The old damp salute!
