F/A-18 Tutorial - How to DESIGNATE Ground Targets with RADAR.
The Latest DCS World Update Lets F18 Radar Designate Ground Targets.
We'll Find Out How Using the RADAR, we can both find and designate both buildings, as well as moving targets in the Hornet. We will not use TGP or predesignated waypoints!
The updated F/A-18 Hornet now allows GROUND Targets to be Designated and Tracked using the RADAR, without further intervention!
This Tutorial goes over the controls needed, and shows DCS pilots of all skill levels how to find & engage enemy tanks and structures, together with useful tips, recorded in real time.
This bugfix adds a whole new possibility, especially useful at night or poor visibility. Of course in most conditions, using RADAR would only be 1 in a series of steps, where ultimately the TGP would be the final designator of choice for most situations.
The F/A-18's Air to Ground RADAR was previously able to designate, but it was a broken feature that didn't track targets, and in some instances didn't work correctly, or at all. We fly over Egypt in poor weather hunting targets.
If you find the tutorial / guide useful, ensure to like the video and subscribe for more!

    It’s not you. Hooking large cargo like artillery is completely broken. It will yo-yo crash into you every time. It seems pretty unforgivable to release it in that state. It seems like picking up an artillery piece would not be difficult. Also releasing cargo is broken.

    Like most of our community, I eagerly awaited the arrival of the ED CH-47F and was naturally disappointed when at the last minute and despite some obvious clues which, with hindsight should have prepared me, it’s release was delayed. No need for me to point out the obvious shortcomings of any company that spins up hopes and expectations and yes, misleads their customers with disinformation, lack of information and so on. We are where we are as they say. So the CH-47F finally graces us old fashioned kids, with its arrival. Yes there are some real positives about the ‘Hook’ but unfortunately any number of positives are overlooked in the face of a few negatives - that’s a fact. Anyway, I have watched quite a few vids on the ‘Hook’ and all I can say is that I must have a different install to everyone else. The most common phrase ‘easy to fly’ is absolutely not my experience. I know how to fly DCS choppers and this one is terrible. Yes I know about trimming (1st time I heard of it on the collective though, sorry ‘thrust’, depending on which ED content you watch and by the way, bind the Thrust Brake switch on the Thrust Control Lever grip to then depress, to move the Thrust Control Lever or collective across its axis - well makes no difference as the collective moves over the axis regardless. Furthermore and despite @BritishAvgeek telling us to make sure we bind a key to the Centering Device Release (CD REL) button to depress when moving the Cycliq over it’s axis, well that does not work either. For the Cycliq you actually need to bind the force trim function and that does work. By default the Cycliq Trim is set to Auto and the System Sel set to ‘Both’ but that makes absolutely no difference to the flight behaviour. So either take off in a rolling take-off or a hover, increase the thrust appropriately and tilt the nose down no more than 2 in on the Longitudinal Stick Position Indic and it flies ok, for a few seconds, then pitches violently up or down and you can be sure if you look at the trimmed position on the little trim overlay, the Cycliq has not moved. Ok, so provided I am high enough, it’s possible to recover using some violent stick movement; settle down, apply force trim then it‘s erratic behaviour will rinse repeat again within seconds or the engine just cuts out. Other aircraft I have purchased previously were not in the early days of EA other than the Apache and that was fine from day one. In my view the ‘it’s in EA’ card doesn’t fly here as it’s sadly lacking some basic flight control and for the life of me I can’t fathom why no one else is griping about this. Here’s another customer who will unfortunately no longer be enticed to pick up anything thats in EA and just released.

    I love your affinity for realism, agree on the wind settings sentiment. I think actual zero wind and turbulence should be in the same menu area as game flight setting and invincility. In real life on the calmest day, air still moves, just differently, and no sim does great at this yet. I find 12 knots wind and 15 units turbulence in dcs is an effective balance.

It's a fun bird, very powerful and a bit quirky, but the flight model doesn't really feel like it is in a finished state. My recommendation is to buy it so the developer is motivated to keep working on it.

    So. At 8:14. The rear slips out. The real ch47 does NOT do this in normal flight due to the DAFCS system. Because DAFCS isnt in dcs YET then the chinook will be slightly harder to control. This is because DAFCS has an auto trim function which does as it says on the tin and does trim for you. You can still use AFCS beep trim manually but in the F model (the one we have). DAFCS is a huge controlling factor and a reason why the hook is so easy to use

      I don't how "realistic" it is, but I can tell you there's been much worse aircraft in DCS. For sure the ability to slide down thousands of feet it a few seconds and roll out the bottom with minimal effort seems a little "too easy" and the mid-flight yaw tendancy is questionable (maybe someone who knows can put me right).

    • @Rhys3295
      @Rhys3295 6 днів тому

      I mean, I've never flown a Chinook, but I am a PPL (H) holder, to me it definitely feels different to anything I've ever flown... But then again, it is completely different to anything I've ever flown 😂 but something doesn't feel right, and to me it's mainly the yaw, but that also could be down to the fact there's no tail rotor 😂 so again, could be because it doesn't act like a 'conventional' heli. But one thing is for sure, she falls out the sky like a rock if you're not careful 😂 only way anyone can comment is if an actual Current or ex Chinook pilot gives it a go 🤷‍♂️ but it is also in early access, so we can't complain.

    • @dominickelly3881
      @dominickelly3881 5 днів тому

      @@Rhys3295The one thing the dcs chinook does that bothers me is when you bank left or right during turns the nose of the aircraft pitches up resulting in rapid altitude gain and loss of momentum if not counteracted. Hopefully they sort it out when the model gets updated. The real life counterpart is much more stable during flight. Pretty fun to fly though.

    The rudders just adjust the individual rotor torque? Is that how you stay coordinated?

    • @DCSDigitalCombatSimulator
      @DCSDigitalCombatSimulator 7 днів тому

      I think I go over this about half way in - basically left rudder (or left torque pedal) makes the front rotor tilt left and the aft rotor tilt right - creating a rotational force around the centre

    • @TFT-bp8zk
      @TFT-bp8zk 6 днів тому

      The pedals stick and collective all go through the AFCS into a Mixing Unit, right, so control is a mixture of blade pitch (torque) and the swash plate angle of both rotors differentialy in order to maintain coordinated flight. It is not direct control of one rotor head or another per flight control input.

    • @briantoplessbar4685
      @briantoplessbar4685 6 днів тому

      @@TFT-bp8zk Tyty

    • @hootman_hawk
      @hootman_hawk 6 днів тому

      @@briantoplessbar4685 A mixing unit is a sort of contraption that takes the control inputs, and through varying shapes and sizes of levers/arms translates the motions of the collective and cyclic into varying degrees of movement up and down into a swashplate, which is normally a round assembly at the base of each rotor assembly mast. The swashplates usually has a fixed and a rotating ring. To the rotating ring is connected the individual pitch control rods that are hooked to "arms" of each rotor blade, and moves the arm up and down, which adjusts the pitch of each rotor blade. So picture the swashplate as a flat circle/plane that is moved up and down at varying angles and as each pitch control rod rotates around it, each pitch control rod goes up and down to have the blade pitched at a certain angle and a specific place as it rotates around. The pitch angle at each place of the swashplate results in the lift/push in direction. The Chinook rotor RPM is 225 Revolutions per minute, so each blade Pitch control rod is going around that circle 3.75 times per second, going up/down, up/down, up/down based on the angle of the swashplate at each location of the 360 degree circle. I did 20 years as a UH-60 crewchief/maintenance guy, and helicopters still fascinate me to this day. There is nothing quite like the experience of being inside a massive machine hovering 100 feet above the ground, literally beating the air into submission. Quite possibly the most amazing machine man has ever invented.

      Hehe! I fly heli's a fair bit in DCS and the faster you go (beyond designed cruise speed) the more they start to "slip". In normal aircraft the slip kills speed and must be trimmed out, but in heli, pushing the wrong way on the tail rotor actually puts a fan into the slipstream - thus slowing it down. What I'm trying to do is list a detailed excuse that not coordinating a heli is by reason and force of habit - I think the hook is different absent tail rotor. Good idea for a test one day

    splash damage in DCS is by far not like IRL with much bigger kill zone circles. but there are splash damage scripts available. the mk84 has a following damage radii against unarmored targets of 0-20 meters: Total destruction. 20-50 meters: Severe damage, likely inoperable. 50-100 meters: Moderate to severe damage, probably inoperable. 100-200 meters: Moderate damage, potentially inoperable. 200-400 meters: Minor to moderate damage, potentially operational but requiring repairs.

    4k doesn't really make things easier to see as distance. It just means objects at distance have more pixels it won't help if the individual pixels are so small you can't see them. You only really need ~100 ppi which can be achieved with 1080p. If you want to go for 2k or 4k then you really need to go for a bigger screen to benefit from the extra pixels. I'd say to to about 24 inches you can get away with 1080p Then up to around 34 inches you can get away with 1440p Above 34inch (basically TV territory) is where you start to truly benefit from the extra pixels 4k has. The reason you can see better in vr is because the screens are much "larger" as they sit in frint of your eyes. Uaing vr is essentially like watching a 60 inch tv from up close ofcourse you will see small details better

    I just got a 4090 3 days ago. Im still flabbergasted at how much better everything looks and works. I mostly fly the F16. I never realized how hard it was to use the targeting pod until now. It is so much easier to find targets. Kola is jaw-dropping. I know it's an expensive gpu, but i wish i would have done this earlier. It's worth every dollar.
