Secret of the Scientist (Escape Room Puzzle Adventure) - A spoiler-free review
Got here from Solo Board game knight and stayed for your 7th Citadel series. You got a new sub from me good sir. Compliments for your amazing work!
Thanks!
Teleported here from recommendation by Solo Board Gaming Knight 😉
Cool, thanks for dropping by! :-) And I hope you enjoy Metrorunner.
Beautifully done! Just like with your Oathsworn series, your explanations are flawlessly executed. If you don’t mind, whenever I make my review, I would like to refer my viewers to your channel for a more detailed explanation. Normally I don’t do this but I really think the work you put into these videos should be seen by as many people as possible. Extremely well done!
Thanks for the comment. Of course, that would be cool if you give my Metrorunner video a shout-out, and I hope the game gets more of the attention it deserves. I'm a subscriber and fan of your channel, by the way - thanks for all the great content!
Thanx for the video, However, I'm looking for a way to assign a button on my midi controller (novation launch control xl) to tap tempo. I did this years ago and can't remember how I did it. Any Ideas? Cheers from Regina Canada.
That's a great tutorial! Thank you so much!
Beautiful! Thank you for this fantastic and thorough motion-graphic tutorial! We hope you had a fun tine playing Metrorunner 🚇
Outstanding!
2:40 . As of 2.0, you still get to finish friendly effects, so tou would still gain a potential battle token when breaking a location, if I rexall correctly. Thanks for an awesome series! 3:40 . 2.0 also changed that you calcumate the movement points it takes, not the range, so the broodmother would not move towards the exile. This is due to it being easy in 1.0 to game the boss by using water tiles, forcing it to not attack anything in many situations by just stopping short. 5:40 Fire is now resolved at the end phase.
Thanks a lot... your video was so helpful... i wasn't able to solve this issue
A wuestion regards ng rangee characters targeting closest location. Does that means vlosest as in number of hex spaces, or closest as in you checking LOS (tightening a rope)?
this series has gotten me to order the game (and i'm still on vid 3) - qq... the updated 'apocalypse' rules are meant to be played with the base game right? (i ordered the core and apocalypse boxes)
That's great - welcome to Drunagor! Hope you enjoy some epic adventures. Yes, any rules I cover in the first five episodes can be used in the base game. (The 6th episode is dedicated to expansion-only rules).
@@adventuresincreativesoftwa6283 is the 1.5 core rules still different from updated apocalypse?
Thank you for this video series - I confess, I've had this game on the shelf for a number of weeks now and whilst very excited to dive in, it does feel very intimidating! Looking forward to watching the rest over the coming days. (P.S. will you also be covering Tanares...I have this about to land and certainly seems equally impressive!!!)
Thanks for the feedback. As you say, Drunagor is no lightweight! Tanares also looks like something I'd really enjoy, but sadly I don't have it.
Thank you for another amazing video.
Thanks for all your help in making the series possible!
this series of videos was brilliant. It was informative - helped me to learn rules and also lot of fun. Thank you for it.
Thanks! 🙂
Hi Adventurers! Regrettably I made a mistake with the Skill Upgrade rules (at 17:00, see video description for details), but apart from that, I hope that the video provides a helpful 'leaping off' point, for your own journeys into the Apocalypse & Awakenings campaigns. Good luck!
07:07 "... and the exile has commited a major fashion faux pas by wearing the same outfit!" Hilarious. Great video.
Great series of videos! Thank you so much :D This makes re-entry so much easier.
truly amazing work! Im in awe - well done and well informed. I hope you do this for many more games in the future.
Thanks for the support!
Awesome series of videos once again! Thank you very much! (from the UA-cam vermin) 🙂
Great finale to the series! Thanks again for the entire six videos which I found very helpful !! Out of curiosity, what games are you planning to do next? Have you tried the HexploreIt series?
You're most welcome - I'm glad they were helpful. As it happens, my Hexplore It pledge arrived just yesterday (and it looks awesome!) I'll be taking a hiatus from video production, but I'm sure some other UA-camrs will give it some great coverage.
Very Helpfull Series!!! but im i wrong that at 29:52 normally Equipment cannot be blocked with Curse Cubes?!
D'oh! You're absolutely right. Thanks for pointing that out, I'll add it to the list of Corrections & Clarifications.
These were fantastic. I’m off to see what else you have.
Thanks, I'm glad it was helpful!
Utterly brilliant!
Genius video for me. I just bought three of these exit games on a sale and I am just waiting for my friends to play with me. Thanks so much for this demo it must have been a lot of work
Keen to see part 6 ! Coming soon?
Yes, it should be posted later this week. Thanks for your patience!
@@adventuresincreativesoftwa6283 TERRIFIC, thanks ! You make wonderful and high quality videos by the way. Super helpful. May not make a ton of $, as it is a niche game, but rest assured that there are people like me that appreciate what you do. Do you have a Patreon or other website to donate a token of my appreciation?
I hope awaken realms send you every game for free, this video is amazingly made. Thanks!
Thanks! Awaken Realms prefer to work with other channels, but some other publishers have been really supportive and helpful.
These videos are insanely good. Thank you for doing this! Your tone and calm manner was a delight.
Thanks, nice of you to say. 🙂
You should have enable a way to pay you !
Thanks for the comment, I'm just glad they were helpful. 🙂
Why are you changing the initiative card sides whenever rotten flesh activates? Is that a house rule?
The core game includes 'variations' of some monsters (including cards with an A and B side, which get flipped after their turn). Beginners would probably use the 'standard' version, but I wanted to demonstrate this optional mechanic. (Of course, I could have explained that better).
20:36 I am confused. First you said taking the shortest route is the lowest priority. Wouldnt the Rotten Flesh then AVOID the poisoneous terrain and go back up instead to take the longer way around (through the water)?
If there were a safer path, which would get him just as close to his target, then he would take it (even if it were a longer path). But there isn't. He only has Move 3, so there's no possible way for him to reach the water. Hope this helps.
Amazing tutorials mate. Thank you! Just got my second edition standee version and am having a blast following along with you.
Condition cards? If a lightheaded card reduces my sentience by 1 blue, once discarded do I get this back?
Yeah, your sentience attributes are always based on your starting attributes and the cards you currently possess. The sentience pad is just a convenient way to track that.
Once again thanks!! I played my first turn last night and your tutorial was instrumental in me having a good time!!!
Thank you, man! Absolutely amazing video!
I don't get it, if defeating the abomination is one objective to win, how can it be an option to not defeat it at the end of the wanderers stage (familiy lineage)?
Yeah, I may not have explained that well. You might lose the game before managing to kill the abomination (e.g. all wanderers are dead at the same time, or you run out of time). If that happens, you apply the 'loss' effect on the back of the abomination card, before packing the game away. Hope this helps.
@@adventuresincreativesoftwa6283 and then you replay it with the loss effect applied? Or do you just proceed to another wanderer?
@@MajinMind It's totally up to you whether consecutive games involve the same wanderers (or the same abomination). Games are separate, and self-contained. (Except for any Legacy cards and lineage tokens, which carry over between games).
@@adventuresincreativesoftwa6283 alright. Thanks. Very nice videos like always, you are the 🐐
@@MajinMind Thanks! Enjoy the game.
2:28 and 4:35 all the Action cards have a number in bottom left and all are of the form Axxx. How the hell am I supposed to distribute which cards to Brooks? You completely do not explain this. in 8:25 you seem to imply that the blue cards with a B letter in the top left are for Brenda. There are 6 variations (from top left icons): A, B, C, D, X and Continent or whatever that last one is called. And I was looking at the A-numbers in BOTTOM left - there are only A cards not B, C, or D. The A in bottom left probably stands for Action (action card)...
Hi, sorry to hear you're having problems with the card ID's. As far as I can tell, you probably don't need to refer to the (tiny) codes in the bottom corner, when setting up (and playing) the game. To be clear, I'm just another backer - like you - trying to make sense of the game. I only had a PDF of the rulebook (not a copy of the game) when I made these videos, so - as you say - they're not very good. There's a much better official video, and I'll leave it to the pro's, in future.
Your videos are great, with great attention to detail and appropriate calls out. That being said, now that I've watched all 3, I still feel this game seems intimidating to me. That is to say, there's seems to be an over-abundance of things going on. Lots of symbology and iconography to be constantly looking up, maybe too much for my liking. I'm sure the story aspect is great and well written, so I may give it a go anyway...but this just looks like a beast to set up, to track everything, and with all these little nuanced rules...may be an actual turn off for me. I'll still give it a whirl, but I have a suspicion there is more time allocated to setup, phase checking, procedural mechanics than real actual gameplay and that scares me a bit. I hope I can stoach at least one game. Be a shame to feel so overwhlemed that this game just sits in the corner for ages considering its cost.
Thanks for your thoughts. I agree that there can be quite a lot going on (it's not a casual game), and the playtime can be quite long, especially for the first game. I find that it makes for an immersive and engrossing experience, but of course it won't be for everyone. Either way, I hope you get some fun out of your pledge - good luck!
I found the videos a great help for the game! I played through my first turn and am still figuring things out- but it's making sense! Hope you give it a try. 🙂
Perfect timing! Copy just came in 😁
outstanding. truly.
Thank you for concluding the rules videos! In BGG there is a lot of discussion about the lack of game save and gameplay unpolished architecture so it may not be my choice, but I really enjoyed your videos! Aeon trespass in depth next??
Thanks for the feedback. Actually I think that Paul Grogan over on Gaming Rules has been working on an Aeon Trespass series... and I'm looking forward to that too!
@@adventuresincreativesoftwa6283 yes, I heard about him working on it. In all cases, you deserve way way way more recognition for your work, I will make sure to tune in your next efforts
@@mel_from_hell Thanks for the support!
Is it correct that in the rule set provided when games were delivered, that you can no longer spend hope reborn! Cards to block damage?
Also, in the treasure chest resolution step, is the potion allowed to go to the involved player or is the active player the only one allowed to take the items in the consequence step? According to the rulebook provided in my copy of the game, I think Brook would have to take all cards that come from the action and then give the item to Casek separately.
But I could be wrong!
Thanks for pointing out that Hope Reborn cards can no longer mitigate damage, I hadn't noticed that change. I've added it to the 'Corrections & Clarifications' list. Regarding distribution of loot, I'm pretty sure that the video is correct. Page 17 of the final rulebook says "Revealed Purse cards: One involved character may either keep this card, or..."
Yep, you’re right. I see now that purse cards can be shared in that case. Thank you again for the great videos.
@@falen1839 You're very welcome - enjoy the game!
Fantastic videos. Found you through your dawn of madness videos and am glad for the 7th citadel videos. I appreciate the high production videos with the mixed in humor. I think these are the best how to play videos out there. I hope you find success working with publishers!
Thanks very much for the encouragement! :-)
It’s also probably worth mentioning that a tie for strongest hero is broken by whoever is earlier on the initiative track. Some of the other targeting keywords flip this to target whoever is further back on the initiative track.
Yes, I did mention this in the Part 4 video, but I agree that it would have been good to include it here, too.
f a n t a s t i c
gameplay structure killed me.
Thank you very much for these very helpful and comprehensive videos. You may like to know that you have persuaded me to part with real cash to buy a copy of the game. Cheers !!
Yeah, UA-cam can be expensive that way. Enjoy the horrors of the Deepwood!
Does anyone know anything about VAT? I can't find any information on the old project or on the Backerkit page. I'm in the EU and when I pre-order, no VAT is addes separately. Is it already included? Will it still be shipped locally when I order now? I've emailed them but didn't get a reply (yet).
Thank you for these videos. I am contemplating buying the game, and these are very useful in helping me decide whether to lay out a large amount of cash on a game I haven't played yet.
Amazing videos. When is part 3 coming ❤
Probably the best board game tutorial I've ever seen. Just watched all three parts. Such a flawlessly concise way to explain the rules. Loved, the flow, production was amazing, and the sheer effort is commendable. Thank you very much.
Thanks for your kind words! And enjoy the game.
