    Matthias, aka HiTech Farmer, is a 5th generation family farmer from Southwest Minnesota who promotes agriculture by capturing it through the lens of a camera, one video at a time. Passionate about emerging farm technologies and the benefits of 21st-century precision agriculture tools, such as farm equipment, GPS, and autonomous tractors, Matthias is determined to bring new methods into his operation. These methods can improve his farm's efficiency and sustainability into the future. Learning from his parents' (Mike and Dawn) work ethic, Matthias sees every day as an opportunity to educate and entertain about the daily triumphs and challenges his farm faces, whether technology-related or not. Guess how long you think it takes us to treat 1 large unit of beans (40bags)?

    HI Mathias! Very interesting seeing the seed treating process. You're the first farmer, I've seen that treats their own seeds. Thanks for showing us how it's done. I'm guessing 26 minutes. Thanks for the video, stay safe and healthy!

    I guess 11 minutes start to finish, Does the seed treater do all types of seed just by changing the seed wheel? Looks like a pretty smooth running system once everything’s set up and in place! Thanks for the video! 👋

      The treater can do other seed, like corn or wheat, but we use it strictly for soybeans. It's a smooth process with the On-Demand setup like it is.

    You did not wear a lot of ppe. Are these chemicals safe to handle and be around with an open door?

    • @HiTech_Farmer
      @HiTech_Farmer  6 місяців тому +1

      It's a completely closed treating loop. I never physically handle or mix chemicals with this system, outside of the inoculant, in which case I wear gloves. The overhead door open has no affect on the process. If anything, it improves air circulation in the building which reduces the dust from the soybeans. Appreciate the questions!

    Do you use well water or treated water for the seed treating?

    • @HiTech_Farmer
      @HiTech_Farmer  6 місяців тому

      It's treated to manage for impurities and to achieve a pH level that will not interfere with the other applied chemicals. Great question!

    Ok Mathias, I'm going to guess 25 minutes.
    I have never seen this process before. I've seen other farmers who buy their seeds, mostly corn and soybeans, already treated, what I saw looked like the seed was purple, and the farmer became quite concerned when his three year old daughter had some seeds in her hands she'd picked up from the shop floor.
    What is the "polymer" that you dumped from the bag into a hopper. When I think of polymer, I think of a plastic gun stock or pistol frame. I started researching the subject online, and the more I read, the more complicated it became.
    what is the polymer you're using made of? What gives it the red color? Is it biodegradable? I don't know anything about this process, but I'd like to know the simplified answer, if that's possible. 😊
    Thank you!

      Appreciate the comment Linda! The treatment is fine to touch, just wouldn't want to leave on skin for an extended period of time. The polymer is a light fluffy powder that gets on the outside of the seed to help with planter flowability. The red color is from the fungicide treatment on the soybeans, that is how we know they are treated. The treatment is 100% biodegradable like most chemicals, it really helps protect the seed early in season. Would you like if I made another treating video and explained more of the why than the how?

      @HiTech_Farmer Thank you for getting back to me. Yes, I would very much appreciate another video with more in-depth information. Some of the reading I did spoke of other colors in the treatment of seeds. It was not clear to me which seeds were being described or what the other colors indicated was being applied to the seeds.
      Yes, please, I'd like an expanded look at the other types of seed treatments. Thank you 😊
