    Yeah. I think I'm giving up on cars and switching to all marine. Love the idea of skis because I can get one in the garage and have loads of space to tinker. And....there are no speed limits on the water, and the penalty for crashing while not zero, is a lot less than say a moto bike.

    • @classicjetskis
      @classicjetskis 20 годин тому

      For sure marine has more freedoms and the sense of freedoms on the water is far greater… the barrier to entry is a lot lower which is a good and bad thing I guess. Thanks for watching dude 🙏

    • @classicjetskis

      I love to 'nit pic' thats why I have 9 pristine examples in the garage, in order to make a clean classic super clean is to have an eye for detail. IMO if you're looking at a 30 year old ski and not being this diligent, then you're asking for trouble... Do you know how hard it is to get the OEM parts, if so you would understand why I'm so fussy. I'm out here buying 2 strokes multiple times a year and when I buy them I put thousands into restoring them, this example you may think was clean but since buying it, its been fully stripped and gone through, just because the cosmetic looks nice, you still need to go through them. I am looking for museum pieces, so glad you noticed. Thanks for watching ✌

    The yellow 1996 XP was still the best ski ever made. I had 4 all @ the same time and then for some reason they started building huge boat sized ski’s that became more and more boring…. I am a Yamaha man now just because of reliability and haul material.

    • @classicjetskis

      Hey dude! Totally agree, the yellow 1996 XP was an absolute legend. Four at the same time? That’s impressive! I get what you mean about the newer, larger skis losing some of that fun factor. Yamaha definitely knows how to build reliable machines with solid hull materials. Thanks for watching 🙌

    Thank you so much for the time you took to explain the history of the xp, I have an 94 xp with a yellow hood, and I'm trying to figure out how to wire the triple gauges ( rpm, LCD, mph) would this be possible? Thank you once again

    • @classicjetskis
      @classicjetskis 5 годин тому

      Hey man! I'm glad you enjoyed the history of the XP, thanks for reaching out and for your kind words. That 94 XP with the yellow hood will have been retro updated by someone as it would have originally been green. Wiring the triple gauges (RPM, LCD, MPH) should definitely be possible, but it can be a bit tricky. I’m actually in the process of updating my HX to have gauges so doing the same thing at the moment. You’ll need to check the wiring diagram for 1994 model to make sure everything is connected correctly. If you need detailed instructions, then the Facebook groups have some super helpful dudes that have done everything when it comes to these machines. Keep me posted as keen to hear how you get on. Thanks for watching ✌

      @@classicjetskis Never ridden a Stand Up Jet Ski unfortunately… The GTX certainly is very different and a lot of fun shocking friends with a ride on it. Went to a Wake Pro 215 back in 08 as a compromise because of space and cost reasons instead of getting a boat, with the intention of getting a towing boat in the future. But life being at it is, it never worked out and JetSkis just work great for our/my needs. The big watersport ready SeaDoo‘s don‘t need much space, don‘t require a big car and sip fuel compared to a real boat. They can also be a lot of fun alone on the water. Buddy owns a 1997 XP with the 03 DI engine in it but never seems to run right. Maybe this season we will get it out there and enjoy both vintage and new Jets 👍

    • @classicjetskis

      Yes they do, I believe from that period Seadoo were plastic and Yam used metal, both have pros and cons. Thanks for watching dude 🙌

    Wheelies are very easy on the XP: While holding the handlebar, stand with one foot at each corner at the rear of the ski. Lean your body over to one side so that the whole craft begins to tilt on its side. Just before you land in the water, turn the handlebar opposite of the direction of the fall and punch it (full throttle). Voila, instant wheelie!

    • @classicjetskis
      @classicjetskis 5 годин тому

      Thanks for the advice, as time has gone on, I have gotten better at the wheelie on the XP and for sure agree, you can do it but honestly dude, the spark is effortless in a way the XP isn't for wheelies, thats not to say it can't be done as you say in your comment, but the extended VTS on the spark for this specific skill, hands down is better, as much as I hate to admit it. Thanks for watching dude ✌

    Man what kind of software do you use to edit your videos? Do you use go pro?

    • @classicjetskis
      @classicjetskis 6 днів тому

      So I use Premiere Pro for the video editing, After Effects for the motion graphics and Davinci Resolve for colour grading. Then on the actual filming side, I use a mirrorless camera with multiple lenses and then go pro for headcam stuff. I do pay for a drone pilot for certain videos. Hope this helps, you don't need to use all of the above FYI, I'm a designer by trade so makes sense for me to use what I know, but I know guys that edit on all sorts and get great results. Videos are first and foremost about story telling. Thanks for watching 🙌

    Why did you pick the 3 up ? I’m stuck trying to decide 3 up or 1 up on a 24 model.

    • @classicjetskis
      @classicjetskis 6 днів тому

      Great question, so 2 reasons, 1 buying a 3up from the factory gives you a longer seat plus the rear 3up platform, my plan was to remove the 3up rear platform but benefit from always keeping the longer seat, irrespective if I removed the rear deck. The 3up longer seat can be fitted to a 2up after the fact, but seemed easier to just have the parts fitted direct from manufacture. If you're buying the parts to make a 2up into a 3up, theres a number of parts needed, see end of this comment. In reality a 3up longer seat on a 2up i.e no rear 3up platform, is beneficial even if you're riding 1up on a 2up if that makes sense. IMO the 3up seat length is better even on the 2up as you can stand on it when wheeling to do tricks and your that further back to tip it more. In essence I wanted the flexibility to go between 3up and 2up by just removing the bolts holding the rear deck on. The reality is me and Megs love riding together so keeping the platform makes sense for now, but sure at some stage I will remove. 2nd reason is top speed wise the 3up platform is out the water once you're up on the plane, so doesn't create any drag. Yes 2up will be slightly more manoeuvrable for low speed tricks, spinning and wheeling but I've never struggled wheeling my 3up and the benefits and flexibility of keeping it 3up means its balanced for fun and practicality of 2 riders. Hope this helps, if you're buying new I would just buy 3up as the price difference is small and then its future proof as you have the parts there for swapping between. Here in the UK a 1up (2up) is £10,199 and the 3up is £10,999 so £880 difference. I'm not sure if buying the parts after the fact would be cheaper, see below parts, but just faff: • A spark 3-up seat, I highly recommend getting a comfort seat if you're gonna get a new seat. • A seat extension support • The rear handle support • An upper rear platform (Deck) • A lower rear platform (Hull Extension) • 3 foam floats to go in the rear platform (rear deck, RH and LH deck extension floats) • A bunch of the BRP Torx screws M6.81 X 30 • A bunch of the BRP flanged hex screws M6.81 X 30 Hope this helps. Thanks for watching

    Nice video and great work. The only reservation I have is those plastic/nylon caps for the bolts and nuts. My concern is that water will get trapped in/around them and eventually create corrosion and rust. I'd be smearing some marine grease or lanolin grease on the bolt heads/nuts before putting the plastic caps over them, so that if water gets in (especially salt water), it's not going to rust out your fasteners. Other than that - looks great and I've never seen a powdercoated-over-gal trailer in Aus. Galvanisers in Aus don't like to re-galvanise existing trailers that are worn or degraded due to impurities in the bath but you've shown powdercoating over existing gal to be a worthwhile option. Thanks for the content.

    • @classicjetskis
      @classicjetskis 6 днів тому

      Thanks for such a detailed and helpful comment dude, 100% in hindsight you’re 100% right, the great thing about doing these trailer restores is you learn every time. My trailers are washed within a inch of their life, air compressor blown off and then all u-bolts, hubs etc all sprayed and covered in GT85 (water displacer) and thus far on all my trailers, no sign of corrosion etc. I think in this instance, because the white caps are so tight, the chances of water getting between is limited, but for sure grease would be safer. Honestly dude powder coating over gal when you find the right supplier is a game changer, my trailer even years old turn heads at the ramp, no more tired looking gal trailers. People always say it will chip etc, but its strong and durable as hell. If I was buying a brand new trailer, the first thing I would do is go get it gassed out and then PC. If its old like you say, the best option is to get it sand blasted and then PC primed with a rust neutralizer and prohibitor before PCing. Thanks for watching and supporting dude

    We had one of those 97 models and 2 yellow GTXs. At the time, they had the best hulls. We had tried waverunners and they were so sketchy at high speeds. Those seadoos felt like they were on rails in calm water. Those GTXs were my favorite, and they were so reliable for cruising around in the intercoastal rivers here in FL.

I must admit the X4 1up XP is where my love is and don’t know as much about the bigger GTX hulls, but for sure that period in time I would agree (as I have a Yamaha Wave Raider) the Seadoo handles a lot better... Yes a 4 stroke and direct injection is more environmentally friendly but the philosophy is the same. I appreciate you watching but I think saving and keeping a 30 year old machine going vs going to landfill is important vs the throw away culture we see today.

      Man thats a hard question, in general I'm always just looking for clean one owner examples, but at the top of the list it would be a B1, X2 or OG square nose stand up. Yes I would love a 95.5 but personally (sorry) I way prefer the 96 hood with the mirrors, I understand the aero on the 95.5. but I love the hood with mirrors. The other tricky thing is whilst a 787 is for sure a quicker more capable ski than my 717, with them both being X4s and mine being so clean, I think I want to find other classics first i.e. a clean stand up. In general I want more space to keep buying more and more. Thanks for watching dude

    Mate, I'm from Australia and although I'm a little older than you (36) I too completely share the identical passion as you do. My friends think I am crazy about the two 80's model motorcycles I have (collectors items which I have restored) as well as my other classics I have restored to perfection (1996 honda cr125 motocross bike & 2005 TJ Wrangler). Like you, I am a 2 stroke guy which is why my motocross bikes are only 2 strokes. There is something about the character of the older machines that you cannot buy today. These days, cars, bikes and even ski's are all the same - it's like originality went out the window....Anyway, I really love the channel mate - the cleaning videos are like porn for people who like to appreciate restorations and bringing the old machines back to life. I got so much education out of this channel, and literally have put so many bits of ideas into my toolkit. Love the detailing brushes, out looking now for some too. Thanks again mate, top stuff!

Also so glad the cleaning video is helpful, ironically I look back on these earlier videos now and hate them, my videos have got alot better I think and also my detailing has but I’m harsh on myself, as most say they are good, I just compare to bigger channels with 100000 of subs. Mate, funny story. Years ago, my friends and I rented skis in Thailand on holiday and it was a very old, cruddy Waveraider (faded stickers, bad paint) and it just ran like shit. We ended up getting scammed $600 (lesson to avoid ever renting skis in Thailand - classic racket) - however since that time, I always looked at the Waveraider as that junky, trashy ski no one liked. After seeing this one and how gorgeous they actually look when found in such clean condition, I actually really want one!! I had 2 WB 2's (have since moved on with RXTs) but I never completely appreciated them as machines and now, am completely on the hunt for a barn condition one. Love the channel, extremely well put together and I don't doubt it will only be a bit more time and it will blow up - just need the awareness to let people know it exists!

      Man this story sounds like a nightmare but have seen UA-cam videos on these scams they run! TBF with any ski when you see them beat up, they can look like junk but a pristine ski like this is just a joy to see. This Raider still only has 69 hours on it and clean as you will find. Sadly with having so many other skis, its doesn't get rode as much as I want but I do love it, such a quick ski even to this day! I have a B2, not sure if you have seen that series on my channel, thats another clean one! Love the B2s but my fav at the mo is the X4 1995 XP... Think this may get topped by the HX i'm restoring at the mo... My dad has a RXT and loves it, those ST3 hulls cut through the chop super well! Thanks re the channel growing, its growing nicely and as you say hopefully in time its blows up more... My spark vs XP video has just smashed through 40k views which is epic! Nice man, congrats on the new GTR-X... I hear you re relative cost point of GTR-X vs GTX Ltd but they are completely different hulls which is what my video was mainly focusing on. The GTX Ltd runs an ST3 hull which is a much more compliant hull vs the Polytec 2 hull on the GTR-X, as such the GTR-X should be a lot more playful. Worth noting the GTR-X has the largest front bin out of the RXT, GTX and GTR-X I'm sure. But yes other features like speakers etc the Ltd is more geared towards this as its the Ltd model... The GTR-X is more sporty with the race handlebars etc. Thanks for sharing and watching 🙌

    I have a Trixx and hope the GTR can fulfill this role too. I can give up 10-20% playfulness to gain acceleration, top end, more space, more storage, more practicality and a ski that can handle rougher waters and go greater distances in comfort. I took my boys 3 & 7 on a 40 mile round trip last summer in flat conditions. We had an amazing time but it was always on my mind that if the sea turned quick it would be a massive slog home. GTR would give way more piece of mind in this respect and allow use of the craft for many more things than you can do on the spark. Don’t get me wrong, I do those things on the spark but it is a compromise for sure.

    • @classicjetskis
      @classicjetskis Місяць тому

      Honestly dude reading your comment I couldn't agree more with your sentiment. You are bang on! I always get thrown at me 'if you want more speed you should buy an RXP or RXTX' etc but these people genuinely don't get my point around wanting to maintain playfulness in your ride, and me preferencing playfulness over rider compliance. I ride 2 strokes not just because they are 2 stroke but because the 90s and that era prioritised connection with the water and rider skill... Fast forward 30 years and honestly when I ride the ST3 or T3 hulls on the high performance crafts, I feel disconnected with the water and feel at times like I'm not tested as a rider... don't get me wrong they're incredible crafts and eat up the chop and corner on rails, but I want my hull to be loose and me make the difference if that makes sense. The reason like you say the GTR could be great is it runs the polytec 2 GTI hull which lets go and spins in the spirit of the lighter crafts... for sure its still too big and in an ideal world they would make a faster spark vs suggesting the GTRX as the performance playful craft, but I also hear your point around kids and also storage etc on the GTRX... which fair play doing 40 miles on a 3up (I assume). The only thing I'm not crazy on is the GTRX is abit boring looking in the grey, I do love the red details but for me its 'safe' I love the look of the all red new 325 RXP... I just know I would hate the compliance of the T3 hull not spinning like my spark/XP etc, even if the 325 will give me 75+ Thanks for watching dude 🙌

      Trip was on the 2up spark 😂. 3 year old in front holding his own little handle bar extensions and 8 year old behind holding me. We were out again at the weekend for this first time this season and we can still get away with it this summer - all felt safe and stable but next year I’ll need to get a different ski or convert the 2up to a 3up. I’ve seen some reports saying the GTi hull is better in rough water than the ST3. That would appeal as I ride 100% ocean and the Spark quickly becomes a liability if you have any passengers on board. At the other end of the spectrum it’s a riot in rough seas on your own launching off waves 😂

    For skidoo there snowmobile brand they have had a 900 ace turbo r for a couple years and they reliable extract 190hp out of them and there snowmobile chassis are very tight for there 4 stroke motors and they make them work no problem. That’s definitely what motor I think they might put in there.

    • @classicjetskis
      @classicjetskis Місяць тому

      I hear you dude... I have seen the motor you're referring to and like you, hope this is what they put in the coming year spark... I think they will do it but at the moment they are selling the new shape spark just on the merit of the aesthetic/feature redesign alone... hopefully we get the faster version next or year after but I could see it being much later than that sadly... Also I think the issue with putting a turbo version of the 900 ace in the spark vs a snowmobile, is people wave jump sparks 3-4 meters and the impact on a turbo might be holding it back from the spark application...We have seen the issues with the mod turbo kits on the current spark where you cant jump them, as the turbo and the way its mounted has too much stress on it.... I know people jump snowmobiles but not to the same degree we jump skis... Fingers crossed, but in the meantime 2 strokes 😍😍 Thanks for watching dude 👌

    I think it would be a better comparison with 2up spark, I have mine with additional deck and it makes it very sluggish comparable to 2up no deck setup. Also in the end of a race, the second driver looks significantly heavier than you, that should have been accounted for and maybe you could swap jet skis for the second run for example.

    • @classicjetskis
      @classicjetskis Місяць тому

      Yeh a couple of people have said about taking the 3up platform off... I might do this, this season, as would still have longer seat for Megs but would hopefully give it more playful characteristics. As for the race at the end, honestly dude we ran this every which way and this was the most competitive out of all the races, hence why I did a fair lap with me riding both the Spark and XP which was timed. I did it where I was on the Spark and the other way around and each time the XP is faster off the line, it has alot more pull than the spark. The biggest thing about the Spark is they have ironed out alot of the rider skill needed to ride it fast, its a very compliant hull to ride which is great for newer riders, but after literally 1-2 laps you can basically ride it full throttle around most of the track, which compared to the XP, the XP requires alot more practise and skill, but once you master it, its quick and you get alot more satisfaction on nailing a lap, as you have earnt it, if that makes sense. Maybe the Spark could be faster without the platform, so will try it out and see, however from what I have read online though, is once on the plane the platform is out the water so drag really isn't an issue, the main area of difference would be playfulness with spinning etc. I love them both but for out and out performance the XP is a faster hull, just has more pull than the Spark. The Sparks main strength is reliability and wheelies but outside of that I would pick a 2 stroke as the Spark feels slow to me, which sucks, as I spent 10k buying a new one... I'm holding out for a Spark X 150hp, then things would get interesting, as this comparison is using the 717 baby XP from 1995, if I would have put it against the 787 XP the gap would be bigger... Thanks for watching

    Hello I am in the market for a reliable and fast classic jetSki that is fun on the water. I am a snowmobile/ Dirtbike rider! I want to stay away from the full standup but would like something that is fast, agile and reliable. My buddy’s all ride the wave raider 701 but I want to have something different. Unless that really is the best ski. Thank you in advance!

    • @classicjetskis
      @classicjetskis Місяць тому

      Great question! Ok so for out and out reliability, agility and still gives you 50mph (comparable with 700 wave raiders) a 717 XP or SPX Seadoo would be perfect. The 717 are one of the most reliable engines Seadoo made. I actually have the 1100 wave raider, so can't comment on the 700 but know the wave raider hull well and comparably to the X4 XP hull (X4 hulls are iconic for their playfulness and race craft) is night and day, the X4 are a much better hull. If you want a bit more power you could look at the 787 or 951 Seadoo engines or like I say the Wave Raider 1100 is a beast 65mph vs the baby 700 raider. Hope this helps, thank you for watching 💪 P.s. 2 strokes inherently there is no such thing as consistent reliability, they require work to keep them running sweet ( just to manage expectations)

    How would you compare this to the X4? Obviously it’s about 5 inches wider and more stable, but assuming they both have the 787, how do they handle different, hitting bouys and jumping waves? I own an X4 and blaster, I live on a very wavy lake (Great Lake Michigan, where waves are regularly the size of ocean waves.) In certain weather it can be dangerous to take the blaster out, because it’s near impossible to get back on in 6 foot waves. So I’m planning on either buying another x4 or have been considering a gsx 787. Just curious if this feels heavier in corners? I also ride on calm inland lakes, so corners also matter. Any help is appreciated!

    • @classicjetskis
      @classicjetskis Місяць тому

      Thanks for the comment dude, great questions… Ok so as you have alluded to key main difference is size and the way the x4 feels under you vs a gsx… The x4 is more playful and connected to the water vs the gsx. Yes the gsx is wider and the gsx has a pretty wide seat but that said IMO the x4 has a wide seat also so that’s not the big area of difference, the widened gsx mainly effects to stability and level or rider input you get back… the gsx still retains playfulness just not to the same degree… IMO if you want a great course ski and you already have a 787 x4 then go for a 951 4th xp parabolic v hull xp.. like a 1998-2004… these are so good on a course as they have a front mounted engine…. Keep in mind I have the 951 gsx so the key difference for me is the top end speed… my 951 has hit 64mph on calm. I can’t comment on a 787 gsx or xp as have the 717 x4 1995. Pretty sure the 787 is 110hp right… not sure on top end but would think a 787 x4 would be better in an x4 hull vs gsx hull as from what I have read, most say the gsx needs the 951 to come alive… in the same way the 1997 parabolic v hull xp was under powered with the 787 carry over from the 1996 x4 xp… until they put a 951 in the 1998 xp. I really want a 787 1996 x4 xp to see how it stacks up against my 99 gsx 951 Ltd But for now the way I ride, when I want complete playfulness I take my 717 x4 1995 and when I want proper performance, I take either my 951 gsx or xpdi… that’s a separate topic but for bouy the xpdi eats the gsx as front mounted engine… Both are great on the waves but yes the gsx is more secure and under you but still playful and can throw around. Thanks for watching

      @@classicjetskis thanks, that all makes sense. Yes the 787 makes 110hp, most people focus on the 96 xp but it’s also the exact same ski as the 1997 SPX, which is what I have. • @classicjetskis
      @classicjetskis Місяць тому

      For sure man, I actually would probably prefer the 99 SPX with the throw back XP X4 1995.5 seat... The 99 SPX is basically a more refined version of the 1996 XP... that said a 1996 all yellow and pink is historically more captivating to most than a lesser popular 99 SPX... By the time they moved to the X4 787 SPX's, most were onto the 951 parabolic XPs... so a clean 1996 XP is worth more than a clean 1996... I would take either lol!
